South Korea's best all-arounder is Lee Yun-seo. Shocking result. This means that Yeo Seo-jeong absolutely has to win a medal on vault, or else she will not qualify.

Chusovitina apparently fell on her second vault. Bummer. Not a problem for her Olympic qualification, but a vault final will be next to impossible now.

She only competed two events at the African Games and scores 23.450 in total. Algeria's best score at the event came from Lahna Salem (43.900) which would be near the last places until now. I don't think she has a chance to qualify. Maybe one of the men will be able to qualify, especially Metedji or Bourguieg.

So, despite some small problems on beam, Belgium is for sure the first team to qualify for Tokyo. I don't quite agree with it because most of their gymnasts are average at best (except for Derwael), but it is what it is. Poor Australia. As for individual gymnasts, a score of 50+ in the all-around should be more than enough to qualify, so I'd say and have secured individual Olympic quotas.

I doubt it. Belgium is being so ridiculously overscored it hurts. Such mediocre gymnasts receiving impossibly high scores for their level. Ugh. Not a chance, unfortunately. At all. It's nice to see improvement, though. I am confident one of the girls will easily qualify through the all-around competition.

FIG did the right thing. It's good that Biles is trying something new, but even a tsukahara is extremely rare, what means that most girls did not master this. It would be terrible if more girls felt compelled to throw a double double like Biles because it's worth a lot, and injury themselves in this process. Biles is acting like a spoiled child about this, and she's not making new fans, I can tell.

Surprising choices for the alternate gymnasts for big teams: Paseka is the alternate in Russia, and Skinner in the US team.

I looked up some sources and created an all-time list of big and small medals at the World Championships (here on Wikipedia) but I was looking for something closer to an official source because I'm not sure the list is perfect as it is. It's interesting because IWF lists separate medals for the Soviet Union and CIS, but not for West Germany and Germany, or for Egypt and the United Arab Republic. Nevertheless, I listed them separately on Wikipedia. Thanks once again.

According to the final nominative entries, Aprizal will not compete. No chance for Indonesia, then. I didn't make myself clear, I'm sorry. It doesn't make a difference if he falls on the pommel horse if he's trying to qualify through the all-around competition. Of course his final score would be lower, but at least he can make up for it on the other events. However, if he doesn't throw full difficulty on pommel horse, he will not qualify to the final. It's the World Championships. Not a moment to play safe or water down routines. It's all or nothing.

It doesn't make a difference if he falls. His best chance of qualifying is earning a medal on the pommel horse. I don't think he could qualify through the all-around, at least not now.

I realized that there is a big number of nations that could achieve a medal result for the first time at these Championships, so now I'm excited for the competition. has the biggest chance on pommel horse. I'd say that if McClenagham hits his routines twice in a row (qualifications and event final) he has a big chance (more than 80%) to win a medal. has a moderate chance on rings. Zahran depends on mistakes from major contenders and a perfect routine in the final, but he definitely has a chance. has a 50/50 chance of a medal in a number of events (rings, all-around, parallel bars, horizontal bar) but I'm not very confident that their time has come. I would love to be proven wrong. has an outside chance on men's vault. Pretty much like Egypt, they depend on other gymnasts faltering, but a medal is still within reach if everything goes right. has an outside chance on men's floor. This is one of the most unpredictable apparatus, so anything is possible. has low chances on men's vault. has very low chances in a number of events. But Georgiou won a medal at the European Championships and the European Games, so he's lucky this year. won a surprising gold medal at the Asian Championships on pommel horse, so it would be nice to keep an eye on this apparatus. also has a contender on the pommel horse. Keikha has the seventh best score this year among the competitors, and if he makes it to the final let's see what could happen. has low chances with Dominici and Molinari. is the most surprising nation here. Matvei Petrov (born in Russia) has this year's second-best score on the pommel horse (tied with McClenaghan), but he achieved this score in a very small competition and was never able to even come close to a big score again. Still, a distant possibility for a medal. is a long shot for a medal on the high bar. is an even longer shot for a medal on men's vault, but I'm not ruling them out as of yet. I would say Ireland has the biggest chance of a medal. Egypt and Dominican Republic winning medals is perfectly possible too, but it would depend on how other gymnasts perform. Iran, Chile and Turkey are long shots, but nothing impossible. Jordan, Cyprus and Guatemala are not really close, but on a perfect day they could come close to a medal or even get a bronze medal. Argentina and Lithuania would need major mistakes from a big number of contenders. Albania and Indonesia are hoping for a miracle, but we have seen miracles happen before (Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Armenia).

I don't know what is the deal with Paraguay. They seem to never invest in sports, and they haven't performed well even in football. Bolivia, on the other hand, apparently invests big money (well, as much as they can, at least) in a number of sports. Still, I see no chance for an Olympic medal for Bolivia anytime soon, unfortunately, but they are on the right track. Paraguay is not even close.

No gymnastics events, but of course this is to be expected. Only India and Sri Lanka have sent gymnasts to the current World Championships, and Bangladesh seems not to have any active gymnast representing the nation in quite some time. I think I've never seen gymnasts from any of the other nations that compete at these Games.

A Paraguayan man won this year's South American marathon championships. I'm not sure what are his chances in a global event, but let's hope he can challenge for a top 10 finish.

And Braz is out. I know I should not expect anything from him, but somehow I believed he could at least go over 5.90 m. Silly me. Now it's time to focus my energy in men's shot put, our best medal chance here.

It's funny because this is not how things work in gymnastics. If one throws huge difficulty with a high fail rate, there's no way we can call this gymnast highly talented. Yamilet Peña (DOM) and Dipa Karmakar (IND) were butchered by media and fans alike because they had big vaults but very poor execution.

Thiago Braz is one never to be trusted. I still don't know how he was the Olympic champion.

Last time I seriously tried to cook something, I was at my mom's house and I forgot a pan with hot oil on the stove. When I came back, the flames were reaching the ceiling, and the path for me to throw the oil inside the kitchen sink was blocked. The only solution I found was to literally scream warning people to move out and threw the flaming pan out of the window. Thankfully no one was hurt, but my mom's neighbors laugh at me until this day.

Cienfuegos and Bigot are reason enough to convert me into an avid fan of men's hammer throw now.
