Qualification - W Field Hockey, hopefully, but unlikely, today.
Medal/Gold, most unlikely but cherished (as of today, at least) - Jessica Davis W Modern Pentathlon.

2030 and 2034 to be awarded next year. Sweden and Salt Lake City, I guess.

Actually to be even more specific it was their male scullers. Neither country qualified a single crew in any of the four men's classes.
For US, just more of the same as in 2020 with 0 male scullers.

Very sad story here. Alexandra Paul

Besides, getting rid of the hammer throw would be a hate crime against Canadians.

The first is that he wants world championships on every non-Olympic year.
For even years, instead of a WC, why not bring back the Intercalated Games or the Goodwill Games at the least?
3 hours ago, NearPup said:The second is that less popular events are in real risk of being dropped from the program.
Well, the standing jumps, Greek stlyle discus throw and freestyle javelin came and went and the sport has managed to stay relevant. So I guess eliminating a few less popular events now won't matter.

W Javelin, finally a stadium event final with all continents participating.
I don’t see North America.

That's not how it works. Total misses at all heights is the second tie-breaker
Exactly. Which is why Kennedy and Moon are tied for first.

Moon up and over as well.
USA announcers don't understand the rules on total misses at lower heights.

Pretty amazing - I've seen people fall on the early laps and medal, but I guarantee a fall on the last lap and medalling hasn't been done before.
1976 Olympic Games, same race, 3000 m SC. Frank Baumgartl
stumbles over the last barrier and hits the deck, gets up to his feet and finishes third. (He was in second place at the time.)

Kerley wanted to go to the toilets but the miss did not want to allow him it looks
just a small hoax

Kerley bombs out!
Kerley just said on US TV that s*it happens and he f*cked up but he's healthy and life goes on.

Which nations are active in flag football? It's not a sport that I'm familiar with.
Austria (with 3 world championships), Mexico, Panama, Italy, Canada, and Denmark, looking at recent WC results
IFAF Flag Football World Championship - Wikipedia
Its basically American football with no tackling or helmets - you stop the play by pulling a velcroed "flag" or strip off the offensive player who is in possession of the football at his/her beltline. At least that's how it was in my school days.

Looking at the Paris quota breakdown, for the non-core sports (breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing), given USA will be expecting to medal in skateboarding and surfing, I can't see them being dropped.
I think those three are already approved to be on the core LA 2028 program, before we even begin to talk about what added sports there might be.

43 Gold Medals seems way too optimistic to me, especially with what I’m seeing this week in swimming and water polo. I have not seen the event by event predictions, but when aquatics produces around 1/3 of your gold medals almost every recent Games, I see a big drop in golds next year.

Looking at the start lists, the men's 800m freestyle list is absolutely insane. Heats 3 and 4 alone could be a finals lineup. A lot of big names are going to miss out
I don't usually watch morning swim prelims, especially in the distances, but I'm getting ready to watch these two 800 heats.

Looks like we might be getting a celebration similar to the winter medal ceremonies. The renderings look interesting at least.
I think that's a good idea.
It has been suggested on other forums that there should be 3 additional medal ceremonies at Paris 2024: 2022 Team Figure Skating and 2012 M HJ and W 400H.

She did, she qualified in 14th. Barely made it in.
Yeah, I misread the FINA site. Thought they were putting "Qualified" below your time, not above it.

Lydia Jacoby doesn't make it out of the heats.
Sorry - She was 14th.

Looking forward to seeing this great & long-overdue addition to the Olympics schedule!
And if it's added, it may take place in Oklahoma City in 2028. But, as the article states, the World Championships will held in Oklahoma City in 2026.
