  1. Sadly the Netherlands is one of the dummy options, as we don't have any athletes in karate and wrestling. I don't follow contact sports much, so I just guessed safely for France, Italy and Germany.
  2. Just looked at tomorrows start lists and noticed our two decathletes are both named Sven and have the same 100m PB. They're in the same heat tomorrow. Also our first medal chances coming up tonight in womens Discus and 10.000m. About time, can't let Greece get to far ahead
  3. There's also a COVID case before departure to Tokyo in the Gymnastics team. They're supposed to leave on sunday and every member (staff and athletes) of the team is currently quarantined.
  4. Ramsey Angela won his 400mH semi-final by a full second with a 49.17 pb. Not bad. He was definitely close to qualifying for Tokyo individually, but in the end he's going as part of the 4x400m relay.
  5. For the Dutch there's actually five soon-to-be Olympians in the squad. Jorinde van Klinken (Discus and shot put), Zoë Sedney (100mH) and Ramsey Angela (400mH) should be contenders for gold in this age group. I'm less familiar with the chances of Diane van Es (5000m) and Jessica Schildér (shot put) and the other Dutch athletes. Some of them have won medals in U20 tournaments before, so I expect there's still medal contenders among them.
  6. Handig documentje!
  9. Update of my prediction from earlier this year: Archery: 0-1 Athletics: 0-3 (was 0-2) Cycling road: 2-3 (was 1-2) Cycling track: 3-5 BMX: 1-2 Mountainbike: 1 Field hockey: 1-2 Artistic gymnastics: 0 (was 0-1) Handball: 0 (was 0-1) Judo: 1-2 Rowing: 3-5 Sailing: 3-4 Swimming: 0-3 (was 0-2) Suprise medal: 1-3 Total: 16-34 (was 15-33) Changes: Athletics: added Femke Bol Cycling road: another women's cycling medal. I really think they could get 3 medals in 2 events, Van der Breggen, Van Vleuten, Vos and Vollering are unstoppable (except by Dychert). Artistic gymnastics: removed Zonderland, I sadly don't see it happening anymore Handball: removed women's team, their preparation has been messy and results in friendlies disappointing Swimming: added a third potential medal for our contenders Kamminga (100m/200m breast) / Kromowidjojo (50m free)/ Weertman and Van Rouwendaal (10km open water)
  10. This is my plan as well. I might get up early if some key events require it (Van der Poel's mountainbike race, Bol's 400mH, track cyling men's team sprint and a few more). Other than that two weeks of vacation with a 7 AM alarm is early enough! Respect for the fanatics!
  11. I have to say Pavan/Melissa have looked more beatable than the other top seeds whenever I saw them play in the world cups. There are definitely chances for the other three teams. Out of the Dutch teams, I'd say Keijzer/Meppelink have the easiest route to the knockout stages. Think the Brouwer/Meeuwsen group will be harder with the Brazilian favorites and a strong American team.
  12. The draw just concluded. Women's pools: Men's pools:
  13. You're right. Lecomte looks like almost a lock in for gold already (which is crazy considering it's her debut year at the elites). Meanwhile Fluckiger could realistically get bronze or miss out behind Van der Poel and Pidcock.
  14. Thank you! That's good to know, starting to look like a much better option now. I never trust these subscription services... Respect to some of you considering watching in the middle of the night!
  15. I don't think our NOS schedules more than a week in advance, so I have no clue yet what's scheduled from july 23rd. I'm probably going to rely only on their tv broadcasts and online streams. I'm considering Discovery+, but with so much of the action in the European night and early morning, that would only be worth it if there is video on demand. Also I'm not sure if they allow a subscription for just one month, I don't feel like paying for an entire year for two weeks. Even if those weeks are the Olympics.
  16. Yeah Andreassen did great today. Decent results by the Dutch in the end as well. Vader had a rough start, but still got into 11th. I guess we can lock in Loana Lecomte and Mathias Fluckiger for medals already. What dominance!
  17. She just keeps improving! SuperBol!
  18. It's a shame the idea doesn't have enough local and national support, but Amsterdam could do it honestly. As for 'best' I'm thinking London, Paris and Berlin. Of cities that haven't hosted (by head) I'm thinking Lisbon, New Orleans and Toronto as three options.
  19. There's so many! In practice I watch whatever Dutch athletes are competing at that moment, but when it comes to favorite sports I'd say: 1. Athletics (mostly track and decathlon/heptathlon) 2. Cycling (cross country > track > road > bmx) 3. Volleyball 4. Triathlon 5. Canoe slalom 6. Badminton Paralympic: athletics, triathlon, handbiking
  20. Purely hypothetically I'd go with two great athletes in their final Games: Epke Zonderland (gymnastics, gold in London) and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (swimming, multiple golds in Beijing and London). No idea who will go to the opening ceremony or carry the flag in practice. Other candidates would be Lobke Berkhout (sailing), Eva de Goede (hockey) or Edward Gal (equestrian).
  21. I was scrolling through the schedule looking for our potential 'worst day' and I was actually surprised how many real medal chances there still are in the second week between track cycling, the field hockey finals, Sifan Hassan, Femke Bol and a variety of outside chances. Even the final sunday still has the men's keirin and Nouchka Fontijn (and women's football and handball if they're not eliminated). It turns out day 9 (sunday) is the 'bad day' with barely any Dutch contenders. Marit Bouwmeester (Laser Radial) is the only Dutchwoman in competition for a medal that day. Other than that it's just preliminaries, quarters and semi's for us.
  22. I'd love to see our women's football team win! I would also love it if one of my two favorite Dutch Olympians manages to take a medal: Epke Zonderland or Ranomi Kromowidjojo. Neither of these is very likely to happen, but a man can hope
  23. I noticed that day 5 schedule as well, that's going to be a great day to watch! I guess there is also a very small chance at a medal from the mixed archery team on day 1, but I agree that day 2 is more realistic.
