  1. - is going to be a very important game next saturday. Good start for the Brazilians, let's hope we follow that example.
  2. I'm not off from work this week yet and now I have a meeting during - which starts in two hours. I fear 'I have to watch a football match' and 'but it's the Olympics!' will not be the strongest arguments...
  3. skateboarder Candy Jacobs tests positive inside the village. Please please please don't become a snowball effect inside the Dutch team! Apparently there has been 79 total cases in the village so far. 8 of those are new cases from today's tests. Not sure what to think of that.
  4. Totally agree! Most of what I've seen from the athletes on social media shows them enjoying the village. Meanwhile the national news is continually emphasizing the inconvenience and restrictions everywhere. Speaking of enjoying themselves: members of skateboard team playing football with the local cleaner: https://twitter.com/TeamNLtweets/status/1417106910025854980?s=20
  5. There must be an orderly queue of athletes waiting their turn for a picture at the rings I reckon!
  6. TeamNL vlog with an inside look at the village (in Dutch of course):
  7. I just realised they didn't include any field hockey medals for . Who else did they gave the field hockey medals to you may ask? Well they didn't even include the sport!
  8. At least 41 medals isn't as much as Gracenote gave . But there's still some really questionable ones like Sifan Hassan in all three middle/long distances and Maya Kingma winning the triathlon! Did the Brittish girls not compete in this year's world cups or something? I'm pretty sure a podium without Great Brittain is not going to happen in women's triathlon. I guess we were just too good in 2019-2021 competitions for these data driven predictions!
  9. Not an official Olympics song, but our women's football team released this incredibly generic pop song last week:
  10. The building will feature this live medal table. Every medal winner will get a small ceremony when they register their medal here:
  11. Van der Poel, Van Aert and Pogaçar really are superhuman cyclists. They made this a memorable tour despite GC not being competitive at all. And of course Mollema's stage win on my birthday, that was rather generous of him!
  12. Very surprised Diving is that high! And also that gymnastics is more popular than swimming and athletics. It looks like American fans should avoid the NOS broadcasts during the Olympics. And not just because of the language! 'Unpopular sports' like field hockey, sailing, every cycling discipline, rowing, judo make up a large part of Dutch Olympic coverage and medal hopes! Of course athletics, swimming and gymnastics (in that order for me) do make up the 'backbone' of Olympic coverage here as well.
  13. I got excited looking up our Handball federation's website and seeing the U19 women (also!?) won the U19 championship! But I guess the 'U19 EHF Championship' they won is a division below the 'U19 European Championship' that Hungary won. But hey, at least we won something!
Kortom: heerlijke voorpret gehad!
  15. I assume 3 European countries will medal in Road cycling. And I don't follow fencing, but isn't that a sport where various European nations can compete for medals (Italy, France, Hungary, Russia)? Don't know about all the combat sports, shooting and weightlifting but I assume those will be Asian dominated. For the Netherlands the mixed archery team can compete for silver or bronze if they avoid the South Koreans in the quarter final I believe.
  16. That was great! I'd love to see more of these vlogs from the village.
  17. Five silvers for so far. Men's 110mH, women's 200m and men's 1500m today. Seedo isn't in the same form she was when she broke through last year. Luckily Bischops has done really well in the 100m (5th) and 200m (2nd)! Edit: 6 apparently! @OlympicIRL Looks like I missed one. I only knew women's shot put and heptathlon in addition to the 3 I named.
  18. I'd say has a few safe gold medal picks: Track cycling, men's team and individual sprint (Harry Lavreysen) Field hockey, women's team Sailing, RS:X men (Kiran Badloe) Track cycling is a little hard to say because there has been so little competition, but they were far enough ahead of the rest that I'm still confident. And Lavreysen is still young. Some options that I consider 'safe medals', but not necessarily safe gold medal picks: Road cycling (women's road race and time trial) Mountainbiking (Mathieu van der Poel) Rowing (LW2x and M4x)
  19. Another interesting poll @Fly_like_a_don, thanks for all your effort! Only 9 left Most difficult choices for me were vs and vs . But that's also because I don't know many athletes from these countries I guess.
  20. Pieter Braun (athletics, decathlon), due to general fitness as a result of recent ankle and hamstring injuries.
  21. Looks like I missed this thread back in June! From the eight medal winners in Buenos Aires only Enzo Kuworge (weightlifting, +85kg bronze medal) qualified to Tokyo. I can't find the full team we sent to Buenos Aires, apparently we sent 41 athletes in total. I see some athletes that qualified to Tokyo already: Tes Schouten (swimming 100m br) and Raisa Schoon (beachvolleyball). I also found that three members from TeamNL Nanjing (2014) went to Rio, so it looks like a repeat this time.
  22. I can see it in the Dutch matches as well: all of them at watchable times between 08:00 and 15:00 CEST, except the two matches against US and Canadian opposition at like 2AM CEST
  23. Impressive silver for Roosen in the men's decathlon with his first ever 8000+ score. And a bronze for Van Es on the 5000m. A few disappointments in the tournament, but all in all 6 medals isn't bad for the Dutch athletics team. Let's not forget Femke Bol and Lieke Klaver are also in this age group!
  24. Three medals for W2x gold, W8 silver and M4x bronze The W2x pair were also junior champions in 2019, sounds promising!
