JoshMartini007 got a reaction from Monzanator in Swimming at the Aquatics FINA World Championships 2019
Fun fact: Despite not advancing to the finals in any of the relays, Poland is currently 5/5 in terms of Olympic qualification. The only nations to have 5 relays are Australia, Germany, Russia and the United States

It's a shame that so few nations participated. Neither Great Britain nor Italy sent a team.

Equal prize money?
I guess she's correct since both genders would get $0

The IOC can be a bit hypocritical with their universality rule. Look at coxed eights rowing. As much as I love the sport I acknowledge that the event is slowly dying yet it remains on the schedule.

Women's ice hockey can at least hide behind the men's tournament. Also ignoring the fact that it is dominated by Canada/USA participation in qualification is decent. 28 teams (including the host) attempted to qualify in 2018 which is good for a winter sport. As a comparison 37 men's teams attempted to qualify.

While true, that doesn't explain why the men can't even make it out of the heats while the women are winning medals. Swimming isn't that deep in talent.

Here are the ten largest athletic teams so far qualified to the Olympics (I took the top three athletes for nations with more than 3 eligible athletes)
1. United States - 73
2. Jamaica - 32
3. Kenya - 31
4. China - 30
5. Great Britain - 26
6. Germany - 23
7. Poland - 21
8. Ethiopia - 20
9. Japan - 19
9. Russia - 19
Relative to last month, Canada and Spain both drop off after tying with Russia for 10th. Overall it was a big month for Great Britain whom gained 9 athletes, as many as the United States and one more than Jamaica. Japan had the least gains among the top 10 only adding a single athlete over the month. Overall 88 nations have qualified at least one athlete.

Still even they must know that excluding all, but the top 6 from the hex is foolish.

Still not fair, all teams should have a chance to qualify directly. Have the top 3-5 advance directly to the hex while the other teams fight for the remaining spots.

We're missing a bunch of our top players, but to be honest, if we lose, heads will likely roll in Rugby Canada.

It doesn't help that the international federations don't care about them. Imagine if they made multi-sport games a 250 level tournament. That alone would attract everyone outside of the very best and even then, I imagine some would swing by too.

For Japan, the 2 athlete quotas for open water swimming are included. Overall, the usual suspects are in attendance. Both Canada and France lag behind with 10 athletes each
