  5. Just a question on team rankings. Why do teams who qualified for 2020 Olympics have ranking points from 4 tournaments while rest have points from just 3 tournaments. This skews the rankings towards those teams qualified in 2020
  6. ANOTHER UPSET ALERT!! Sreeja Akula beats World No 2 Wang Yidi For context China didn't lose any match in 2022 and just 3 in 2018, but they have lost 2 already in tie against India
  7. UPSET ALERT!! Ayhika Mukherjee beats World Champion Sun Yingsha
  8. Melbourne stadium has 100k capacity, Adelaide - 55k, Sydney - 48k while Brisbane is 42k. Any India games is more likely to be sold out. But the organizing committee knows best in terms of scheduling and logistics but Indian fans would love to watch in these stadiums
  9. Australia would definitely want Cricket to be in the Games, they are good enough in men's section and miles ahead of anyone among women teams. Also, it's likely to be 8 team tournament from expected 6 in 2028. Also iconic stadiums are in nearby Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney. Additionally, Australia tourism target Indian tourists by promoting cricket tournaments. Olympics Cricket tournament shall boost tourism from India as well
  10. Indian squad for Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, Egypt 15-16 Feb. This is for qualification ranking points Men: Ujwal Naidu, Rakesh Patra, Tapan Mohanty Women: Pranati Nayak, Dipa Karmakar, Ritu Das https://www.gymnastics.sport/site/events/detail.php?id=17111#loaded FIG Apparatus World Cup 2024 CAIRO Nominative_12.02.2024.pdf
  11. But it isn't part of Tripartite Commission as per this document. Anyways they have few athletes who can qualify via Athletics Rankings and outside chance in Men's Singles in Badminton https://78884ca60822a34fb0e6-082b8fd5551e97bc65e327988b444396.ssl.cf3.rackcdn.com/up/2022/11/Paris_Olympic_Games_2024_Judo_-1669312731.pdf
  12. Not sure why Taniksha Khatri is not participating in international events but she participated in National Championships in Guwahati during 28-31 January. In any case she is not expected to qualify via rankings so her best bet is in qualification tournament.
  13. India squad for 2024 Aquatics World Championships Feb 2-18 https://www.worldaquatics.com/competitions/2969/world-aquatics-championships-doha-2024/athletes?gender=&discipline=&countryId=bb8a9f96-daa0-4ef0-87af-20350a398a20 seems to be a very young squad
  14. Actually we were confirmed 1 quota in Sailing under Emerging Nations especially Vishnu Saravanan in ILCA 7 as he was the highest ranked sailor. Hope that other sailors like Nethra Kumanan and pair of Varun Thakkar-Ganapathy step in final qualification race https://d2cx26qpfwuhvu.cloudfront.net/sailingparis2024/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/13184801/Paris-2024-Emerging-Nations-Program-Athletes_20230830.pdf
  15. While various world leaders just make boastful statements during COP summits, India actually delivers. India has overachieved its commitment made at COP 21- Paris Summit by already meeting 40% of its power capacity from non-fossil fuels- almost nine years ahead of its commitment and the share of solar and wind in India’s energy mix have grown phenomenally. India is heading the Solar Alliance whose primary objective of the alliance is to work for the efficient consumption of solar energy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. While the world is struggling with costly EVs, most tuktuks in India are already electric or on CNG which are affordable, easy to maintain and long lasting. I understand many here have long lasting biases of India being a Third- World nation but its developing fast
  16. Actually the frequency of statements by various Indian leaders saying India to host 2036 Olympics has been growing. Most recently it was made by Mukesh Ambani, richest man in India and 15th in the world, during Vibrant Gujarat summit 2024. Vibrant Gujarat is a summit to attract investments in the Indian state of Gujarat and heads of state of 4 countries attended- Czechia, Mozambique, Timor Leste, UAE. India is pitching for Ahmedabad to be host city which 5th largest city in India and largest city in Gujarat. To note Mukesh Ambani is husband of Nita Ambani who is IOC member. During IOC session in Mumbai last year, Thomas Bach had met the couple. https://youtu.be/sXDy5zf_vxM?si=f8cFtA5rWddwK2O_
  17. France supports India's intention to host Olympics. India wants to host 2036 Olympics and 2030 Youth Olympics
  18. Emmanuel Macron will support India's bid to host 2036 Olympics and 2030 Youth Olympics https://twitter.com/sidhant/status/1750938242839683515
  19. The 8 group winners are seeded and move into Round of 16. The 2nd place from each group shall be drawn from 3rd place from each group with condition that teams from same group can't be drawn against each other. The winners of this playoff round will play against the group winners. The winner of each match shall qualify for quarterfinals and Olympics. The entire draw for the knockout stage shall be made in one go
  20. So Asian Table Tennis Union has five zones - East Asia, South-East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia. So Asia gets 6 quotas so 1 quota gets allocated to each of the five zones and the sixth one is allocated either by ranking or competition (format for 6th quota is TBD, it was ranking in 2020 and competition in 2016). So here are NOC in each zone East Asia : South-East Asia: South Asia: Central Asia: West Asia: so Central Asia quota is tough battle between and players unless anyone gets team quota
  21. Totally undeserving if the team can't defeat two lowly ranked teams at home and can't convert plenty of penalty corners. Hope this wakes up Hockey India and Sports Ministry and plans well for the next Olympic cycle. Regarding contingent size this is a huge dent as hockey is the only team sport we are good enough and have reached a ceiling in terms of quotas in other sports we qualify usually. Also we are miles from qualifying in other sports where we never qualified. But the contingent size should touch 100
  22. I think our Sports Ministry should send a research team to Uzbekistan to get tips on improving our Football, Boxing, Wrestling, Rowing, Judo and Taekwondo
