  2. And Giacomel wasn't exactly running fast today... However, he needs to make fewer mistakes later in the season. Of the Italian squad, only Bionaz is a concern.
  3. Munich once wanted to host the 2022 Olympics, but people voted no in a referendum. The same thing happened with Oslo, and it's the same with Switzerland every 4 years- they also can host some OG in winter, but peole are against this.
  4. The problem is the bobsleigh track—it's very expensive. That's why Sweden doesn't want to host it, because even for them, building such a track makes no sense. However, of course, someone like Putin can created the Sochi Olympics, where nothing has been happening for 10 years and where, in general, there was no tradition in winter sports before. Turin, unfortunately, was something similar, only on a smaller scale and at a lower cost. Cortina was different – it could have been done sensibly and thoughtfully, but not with this political class. They are incorrigible – they do nothing and only wake up a year before the Olympics. And the entire political class, from right to left, is tainted by this.
  5. I think 2006 was too early for Poland and Slovakia (the decision was made in 1999). Both countries were quite poor at the time and in chaos after the political transformation. The situation is different now, and they would be more ready. I know one thing for sure: Turin 2006 missed that opportunity – suffice it to say that none of the facilities from that era are still used for sports... Isn't that a measure of failure? Even some of the arenas from Athens 2004 are still open for sports.
  6. Yes, but this Canadian man is now injure and its status is uncertain. China is on second reserve places.
  8. When was the last time the Arena in Turin was used for sporting things?
  9. If hosting a home Olympics will make it difficult to improve on the 2022 medal count, then there must be something wrong, true? If Canada had done something similar in 2010, would they have been praised for it?
  10. Greece did the same in 2004... After that they fell lower in sport than they were before, but from what I remember that`s games was for they the best Olympics in the 21st century in terms of won medals.
  11. Maybe it should have been done in Bolzano? What kind of ice rink is there, but the Division IA World Championships were held there in 2024. But of course, it's too late now...
  12. Exactly, and if the government changes to some populists, it might be bad... That's what I'm afraid of... However, Paris 2024 managed it good.
  13. I think that, I`m more of a realist than a pessimist and I remember what happened in Turin and some years after.
  14. They probably didn't want to build a bobsleigh track at home, but rather hold the competition in Sigulda (Latvia), which was simply too far away, plus alpine skiing in Are, far to the north. And their community probably wouldn't agree to building a bobsleigh track specifically for an event in which they have no tradition. Paris 2024 did it good, so France in winter 2030 can do it too. The problem might be that if Macron leaves and a Le Pen or something similar comes in, things might get worse, but hopefully not.
  15. We're building almost nothing... It's the same with football stadiums: 90% of the facilities are from the '90s and date back to the Italia '90 era. And these games simply don't make sense, because they don't even promote a sport like hockey. If they did, there should have been a good club in Turin after 2006 that would have played there, etc. Milan hasn't had a club for many years either – it`s only in Bolzano. If you did it in Bratislava, it would at least make sense, because people are interested in the sport, and something from it would stick around for the future.
  16. You complain about your politics, but you see what's happening here. These idiots have been debating for 25 years about building a stadium to replace the San Siro (whether it should be new, renovated, or two new ones somewhere else, etc.). The same with hockey - there were the Olympics in Turin, where there was a good ice rink, but since then there hasn't been a single match there... Now will be the same story or even worse, because they can't even get back on time (in 2006 they somehow can do it).
  17. What's the point of organizing two Winter Olympics in the 21st century: 2006 and 2026, when we'll soon have no indoor speed skating track? Why? I'd rather have one such track permanently open to athletes than two of these pointless events that you do nothing- not even a good medal results.
  18. For two long years I've been writing to you that this Olympics will be a total failure in every way and that we shouldn't organize them. This useless ice rink is the symbol of how all our preparations have gone: without a plan, without ideas, without creating new stars in various sports, etc. Nothing. The sporting results will be disastrous, and nothing will remain of these arenas, just like those of 2006. There was an ice rink in Turin, but where is it now?
  20. I'll remind you that a year ago, on the same track- probably much slower one- Lollobrigida skated 3 seconds faster, than today. She's simply out of form, that's all. But that's what happens when you count on one person in all of women's speed skating for 8 years... One injures and you have zero medal chances out of 3.
  21. In my opinion, Italy will have a problem to even win the 17 medals: 2022 form Beijing. In my opinion, we're incapable of playing at home, and there's no point in trying. France knows how to do it, as Paris showed. We don't have a plan, just improvisation, and maybe someone like Giacomel will emerge. Most of the stars, however, are well over 30, and they've achieved success even without the Olympics.
  22. Unfortunately, Lollobrigida is out of form, and nothing can be done about it this season. There won't be any medals in Cortina And I have concerns that the entire Italian team is simply poorly prepared... Francesca's 8-second loss to Wiklund is astronomical She also lost clearly to Tas from Belgium... To even think about anything, you have to be at least at Tas's level here, because other Dutch and Canadians will be competing in Cortina. What's more, with this form, it will be difficult to even medal in the mass start. Something clearly wrong; she was at her peak last year at the World Championships and this season has been her worst in many years.
  23. Overall, would you rate France's performance in Paris 2024 as a great success? 64 medals is a lot- 31 more than in Tokyo.
