I missed all the thread but, to answer the original question of hckosice, in the case of spanish it's very easy to understand portuguese. Like, I read something in portuguese and I understand 95% of it easily, only slang or words with a very different root is the only thing I can misunderstand. And I never studied portuguese formaly.

Then there is also familiarity to other latin languages, but not to the same level as portuguese. I would say for a spanish speaker the order from easiest to hardest is portuguese, italian, french and the hardest would be romanian.

    Brazil will be the champions.

After winning their first 2 games Egypt lost 7 in a row  even lost to Tunisia.

Japan are great but it's not a surprise to me since they are taking the cup very seriously.

And in the middle there are 5 teams tied with record 4-5. I think our team will probably finish 5th, which is a lot better than I expected.

What was the reason to accept this in the olympics?

It's too new and underdeveloped, there barely are any 3x3 specialists. It took rugby sevens like 20 years of having an established world series to be accepted in the games. FIBA invented this trash in one day and the next they are accepted by IOC???

I'm 100% sure that if this Starc guy gets an injury of some kind the headline of all media outlets will be "Bran the Broken".

Yes, I just noticed after looking at the box score (I didn't watch this match).

I said that because of what Blengini said in the presentation press conference: We want to develop them for the Olympic Games and make the composition of the team stronger. They will be getting a different experience here compared to the usual matches Italy play. I want the young players to experience playing alongside the likes of Massimo Colaci and Simone Giannelli in an event like this.”

for Turkmenistan, while Rejepov at 81 has a much better chance but I think Toychyyev also has a realistic chance at +109kg. (I explained in details in 2019 World Weightlifting thread) but in short he finished 9th at the Worlds but if you remove 3 (2 ARM and 1 BLR) he is 6th and only 8kg behind the medal zone which is within his reach.

Italy is here with almost B team. Only their setter and libero are the starters.

Some other teams are also here with weakened squads: Russia, Canada, Argentina. Poland will play the first few matches with substitutes as well before the starters arrive from France.

I think only Brazil, Iran and USA are here with almost best team. They are missing only one starter player each.

It's just the others saved energy in the semis so it looks like he underperformed.

What? You're right there fighting for the gold medal in a WCh. Who cares about injuries in that situation?? The next big thing is a whole year away. Makes no sense to at least try.

Both Brazil and Poland were already teams with great attackers, so I don't think that throwing these cubans in would make such a gigantic difference in their systems (of course, they are great but so are Kurek, Kubiak, Lucarelli, Douglas, etc).

I think a much bigger impact would be seen if you gave León/Leal to a mid level team like Germany, Canada or Argentina.

The Peace prize has been awarded to people involved in very different causes, not just to those that literally ended a war or something, so...

In fact, they already gave one to Al Gore and co. for the pretty much the same.
