Not 100% on this but I have heard FIBA is not supporting the basketball event (not sure why). Perhaps why both Canada and the USA withdrew. Which would also imply they did not enter the 3x3 events as well

As soon as the rest of the teams get named, I’ll do a PT. 2 (which will also go over my Canada Pan Am Games Olympic quota predictions)

In swimming/open water swimming, we’ll be sending 38 athletes, most notably Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champion Maggie MacNeil (women’s 100m butterfly), and Sydney Pickrem (women’s 200m individual medley). Other than those two, we’ll be sending a B-team.

In taekwondo, we’ll be sending 9 athletes, including 2019 World Championships bronze medalist Skylar Park. Majority of the team is an A-team, but we’ll be sending some B athletes with Angelique Orozco instead of Vivian Tranquille and Braven Park instead of Nicolas Hoefling.

In softball, we’ll be sending a full team of 16 athletes, including 7 that were on the Canadian roster that won bronze at Tokyo 2020.

In canoe slalom, we’ll be sending 4 athletes (A-squad).

In karate, we’ll be sending 6 athletes, pretty much an A-squad except for former #1 Haya Jumaa (who was pregnant for some of this year, she actually attempted to qualify through the last chance qualifying tournament but was unsuccessful)

In table tennis, we’ll be sending 6 athletes (A-squad), including Tokyo 2020 Olympians Mo Zhang and Eugene Wang. As the mixed doubles event awards Paris quotas to the top two teams, it’ll be especially important to reach the final.

In racquetball, we’ll be sending 4 athletes (again an A-squad) with various medal chances after earning four medals at last years World Championships. (however all of the nations were Pan American)

In wrestling, we’ll be sending 11 athletes, and an A-squad, with the only notable absences being Linda Morais, Karla Godinez, Samantha Stewart, and Diana Wiecker (either their weight class isn’t here or they got beat out at trials)

In diving, we’ll be sending 9 athletes, and an A-squad, with many star names including 2023 World Championships bronze medalists Caeli McKay (women’s 10m) and Pamela Ware (women’s 3m), 2022 World Championships bronze medalists (in men’s 10m synchro) Rylan Wiens and Nathan Zsombar Murray, and 2022 World Championships silver/bronze medalist Mia Valee (women’s 3m/1m).

In breaking, we’ll be sending 3 athletes, and with this being a Paris qualifier, obviously it’ll be an A-squad. Philip Kim won gold (2022) and silver (2021) at the last two editions of the World Championships, he’d be our best chance for a quota. (if he hasn’t already qualified through this years Worlds)

In sport climbing, we’ll be sending 10 athletes (A-squad). Tokyo 2020 Olympians Alannah Yip and Sean McColl (women’s/men’s combined) are the biggest names competing. Sanders, Grossman and Ramboutou will most likely sweep the podium for the US, don’t see Yip qualifying here. Ethan Pitcher (men’s speed) and Sean McColl will have some tough opposition in Zach Hammer, and Sean Bailey, but both certainly have a chance.

In squash, we’ll be sending 6 athletes (A-squad), including 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist and world ranked #19 Hollie Naughton and former world ranked #18 Danielle Letourneau.

In skateboarding, we’ll be sending 4 athletes (A-squad), including Ryan DeCenzo (men’s street), and 13 year old Faye Ebert (women’s park). Cordano Russell, Micky Papa, and Matt Berger (all men’s street) won’t be competing due to the one athlete per NOC (per event) rule.

In handball, we’ll be sending a women’s team of 13 athletes (A-squad). No real expectations here, hoping for a top 5 finish.

In bowling, we’ll be sending 2 athletes (A-squad), including François Lavoie, who won bronze at the 2018 World Championships in men’s doubles alongside Dan MacLelland.

In fencing, we’ll be sending 18 athletes (A-squad), including many Tokyo 2020 Olympian and world ranked #8 Eleanor Harvey (women’s foil). A good result here for our (and US’s) teams, would get us a lot closer to Paris qualification.

In boxing, we’ll be sending 13 athletes.  Pretty much an A-squad, no Caroline Veyre though. Scarlett Delgado (women’s 54kg), 2022 World Championships silver medalist Charlie Cavanaugh (women’s 66kg), 2022 World Championships gold medalist Tammara Thibeault (women’s 75kg) and Tokyo 2020 Olympian Wyatt Sanford (men’s 63.5kg) are the biggest Canadian names competing.

In triathlon, we’ll be sending 6 athletes. Pretty much an A-squad on the women’s side, with Dominika Jamnicky and Emy Legault competing.  No Amelie Kretz though. On the men’s side, a B-squad as both Charles Paquet and Tyler Mislawchuk aren’t competing.

In waterskiing/wakeboarding, we’ll be sending 6 athletes. Don’t follow this sport too much, but I do believe this is an A-squad. Dorian Llewellyn (who won gold in men’s tricks and silver in men’s overall at the 2023 World Championships), and Whitney Rini (9x World Champion) highlight our roster.

In artistic swimming, we’ll be sending 9 athletes (A-squad). Good chance for us to qualify either a team or a duet.

In beach volleyball, we’ll be sending 4 athletes. On the women’s side, it’ll be an A-squad with Brandie/Melissa competing, while on the men’s side it’ll be a B-squad with MacNeil/Russell competing.

In sailing, we’ll be sending 15 athletes (A-squad), including Tokyo 2020 Olympian Sarah Douglas (finished sixth in laser radial, best ever finish by a Canadian women). No Mofatt/Woods (instead Barnes/Jones will be competing) or the Lewin-LeFrance sisters (instead Millen/ten Hove will be competing).

In athletics, we’ll be sending a reduced team of 27 athletes, including 2023 World Champion in men’s hammer throw Ethan Katzberg, 2023 World Championships silver medalist in women’s shot put Sarah Mitton, and 20km/35km/50km Canadian race walking record holder Evan Dunfee (won bronze in the 50km at Tokyo 2020).

In badminton, we’ll be sending a A-squad (for the most part) of 10 athletes. Unfortunately, Michelle Li, Rachel Honderich/Kristen Tsai are still injured. Tokyo 2020 Olympian Brian Yang is the biggest name competing.

In shooting, we’ll be sending an A-squad of 14 athletes. 2x Olympian Lydia Kiejko (women’s 10m air pistol/25m pistol) headlines the team, with Lindsay Boddez (women’s trap), Madeline Boyd (women’s skeet), Trystan Routledge (men’s skeet), Tugrul Ozer (men’s 10m air pistol), Madelene Scola (women’s trap), Gregory Sych (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions) also named to the team. As for quotas, we could have a few, but we could just as easily secure none.

Thanks a lot  this is very interesting to find Asian Games draw in Egyptian boxing facebook page

based on what I see, only one of our 5 boxers will face UZB/KAZ/Refs before the semifinal. I guess we can't complain about the draw. hopefully they win couple of bronze medals. I have low expectations in this sport and Olympic quotas are probably out of reach.

Shooting team, only 14 athletes, the smallest shooting team I can remember for a PAG.

All the top names are there except Michele Esercitato, who is the alternate (only one male pistol quota was earned). In fact his score is better than Ozer's so not sure how this makes sense. 8 out of the 9 top ranked shooters in Canada made the team.

Yeah, I’m not sure cricket is “Olympics-ready” if this is the kind of result that can happen. Indonesia did the footwork winning their preliminary match and then were automatically bounced by a weather cancellation. Not a great look for the sport, in my opinion.
