  1. Fair play to Rebecca Morrison and the team for pulling themselves together after a couple of shocking matches to get themselves into a top-8 finish. I'm not a huge fan of the team and when they lost to , I thought they'd be down towards 10th or 11th so to squeeze themselves into an Olympic quota spot was positive (even if it was the minimum we would expect from them). Even if they (or Fay Henderson's rink) finish mid table at next year's competition, they should do enough to secure their Olympic spot for 2026 but they will want to finish ahead of Norway and Japan to be sure.
  2. The Socikas tournament reached final stages to day and GB came away with a gold and two silvers to add to the two bronze medals won yesterday. Isaac Okoh took gold in the 86Kg class whilst Ramtin Musah and Scott Richards took silver in the 80Kg and 51Kg classes respectively. I don't usually follow boxing so I could be wrong here, but in digging through recent results, I get the impression that the competition pool for GB boxers seems to be quite limited. It tends to be the same nations competing each time - so they're able to rack up bouts against Scandinavian and Baltic nations but that's about it.
  3. The Bello brothers really lucked out with their quarter-final draw. Instead of facing the number 4 seed George / Andre, they were up against the 20th seed Varenhorst / Luini and they've come through in straight sets 23-21 / 23-21. A top 4 finish guaranteed, they'll face either 13th seeds Schachter/Dearing or 6th seeds Diaz/Alayo. Given they've already beaten the Cubans this weekend, they've got to feel pretty confident going into the match tomorrow.
  4. Williams has a bit of a horror show in the final - not only did he fluff his forward 4 and a half, but he also had problems with his reverse 3 and a half. Hopefully just an off day, but the forward 4 and a half is rapidly becoming his bogey dive.
  5. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Men's 10m Platform Final: 1.) Junjie Lian - 542.55 2.) Rylan Wiens - 494.50 3.) Cassiel Rousseau - 476.90 ----------------------------------------------------------------- 4.) Zachary Cooper - 440.25 5.) Brandon Loschiavo - 435.55 6.) Rikuto Tamai - 415.75 7.) Noah WIlliams - 412.85 8.) Nathan Zsombor-Murray - 399.80 9.) Andreas Sargent Larsen - 387.55 10.) Jaden Shiloh Eikermann Gregorchuk - 359.05 11.) Luis Carlo Avila Sanchez - 344.90 12.) Igor Myalin - 435.55
  6. Bello brothers come from behind - again - to keep their run going in Recife. They take out the 2nd seeds Crabb / Brunner 2-1 (14-21 / 24-22 / 15-13).
  7. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Women's 3m Springboard Final: 1.) Yiwen Chen - 356.40 2.) Maddison Keeney - 344.75 3.) Sarah Bacon - 327.75 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 4.) Sayaka Mikami - 322.90 5.) Scarlett Mew Jensen - 318.75 6.) Chiara Pellacani - 315.50 7.) Brittany O'Brien - 303.45 8.) Saskia Oettinghaus - 298.85 9.) Grace Reid - 297.60 10.) Julia Vincent - 294.10 11.) Margo Erlam - 278.60 12.) Nais Gillet - 249.00
  8. Women's 200m Back Stroke: Honey Osrin has been in good form and achieved the BST earlier this year, but she needs to be in and around her PB when we get to Trials. Shanahan got the standard last year and is just over half a second shy in 2024 so she should be able to get the standard. Women's 100m Back Stroke: Lauren Cox got the standard in 2023 and then produced a new PB at the World Champs in Doha. The second spot in the team will be a bit of a battle between Dawson and Harris. Dawson has the faster PB, but hasn't hit the BST for a couple of years whereas Harris did get the BST last year. Expect the battle to be really close - there's just 2 hundreths of a second between their 2024 seasons bests.
  9. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Women's 10m Platform Synchro - Final Result: 1.) Delaney Schnell / Jessica Parratto - 306.00 2.) Kate Miller / Caelie McKay - 282.72 3.) Sofia Lyskun / Kseniia Bailo - 276.36 ----------------------------------------------------------------- 4.) Elena Wassen / Christina Wassen - 269.16 5.) Ana Carvajal / Valeria Antolino - 256.11
  10. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Men's 3m Springboard Synchro - Final Result: 1.) Jack Laugher / Anthony Harding - 423.27 2.) Lorenzo Marsaglia / Giovanni Tocci - 397.62 3.) Greg Duncan / Tyler Downs - 374.85 ----------------------------------------------------------------- 4.) Gwendal Bisch / Alexis Jandard - 372.48 5.) Nicolas Garcia Boissier / Adrian Abadia - 366.84 6.) Kacper Lesiak / Andrzej Rzeszutek - 338.49 7.) Yohan Dion Eskerick-Parkinson / Yona Knight-Wisdom - 338.10 8.) Dariush Lofti / Nikolaj Schaller - 334.92 9.) Osmar Olvera Ibarra / Rodrigo Diego Lopez - 326.58 10.) Igor Myalin / Vyacheslav Kachanov - 321.96 11.) Moritz Wesemann / Alexander Lube - 317.94 Mexico had a failed dive in the final round and scored 0 - without that, probably would have been heading for second place.
  11. Women's 50m Freestyle: Ana Hopkin has achieved the BST both in 2023 and 2024 so is well placed to get a quota in this event. At the moment she looks to be the only swimmer who will hit the standard - although will be interesting to see how Okaro and Carter perform. Both would need to drop about half a second from their PBs so it may be too much to ask.
  12. Bello brothers drawn against 2nd seeds Crabb / Brunner in the round of 16 - a bit of a nasty draw but a few of the top seeds have been off their game this week and they didn't top their group.
  13. Bello brothers come from behind to take out Diaz / Alayo 2-1 (21-23 / 22-20 / 15-13) They were trailing throughout and it looked like the Cubans would win in straight sets before they battled back to level. In the decider, the Cubans looked to be heading for the win before the brothers fought back to sneak home with the win over the 6th seeds.
  14. Kevin Mayer has withdrawn from the Aztec Invitational Track meet in San Diego after sustaining a knee injury - will probably look to Gotzis meet in mid-May to get the Olympic qualifying standard.
  15. Women's 100m Freestyle & 4x100 Relay: In the same situation we had with the 200m Freestyle, Freya Anderson has the BST from last year but as previously discussed, we haven't seen her in action so far this year. I still haven't been able to find anything about any potential injury, so I am expecting her to make the standard when we get to trials. Anna Hopkin has already achieved the BST this year so just needs to replicate that in London to book her spot on the team. It's difficult to see anyone else coming close to the BST but perhaps Lucy Hope could be a potential wildcard - if she's in PB territory, then she could challenge the BST. When it comes to the 4x100 Relay, I'd argue that based on the 2024 SB times, this would be the one that would be the relay most at risk of missing the required BST and therefore forfeiting the quota - that's despite finishing 4th at the world in 2023 with a new NR. As it currently stands, the cumulative time for Hopkin, Colbert, Wood and Anderson would be 3:37.22 - roughly a second adrift of the BST. That being said, we know that Hope, Wood and Colbert are capable of getting into the mid 54s. It would be good to see Medi Harris also getting a new PB in the 54s to give the team some additional options when it comes to the heat swims.
  16. Reese Lynch comes up short against Zhandos Kydyraliyev in the semi-final. Joe Tyers also loses his semi-final against Paul Hale. Both will take home bronze medals. Hamza Mehmood lost his first fight against Baregham Harutyunyan but as it was a semi-final, he still comes away with a bronze medal. Scott Richards won again - defeating Daniyal Sabit whilst - and Ramtin Musah is through to the final after defeating Maksym Kofan. Isaac Okoh got his first victory with a defeat of Pavlo Michkovskyi.
  17. Wasted opportunity for Sam Hall as he loses in the first round in Tbilisi - had a pretty kind draw and could have easily picked up 260/360 points but instead he comes away with 10 points for participation.
  18. Bello brothers def. Nolvak / Tiisaar 2-0 (21-17 / 21-16) Next up Diaz / Alayo.
  19. Main selection event is British championships at the end of May - whoever wins the individual event at the British Champs will be selected - assuming that they have met the required standard in both the preliminary and final round. The selectors have given themselves a bit of discretion when it comes to the second spot and they can take into account performances across the World Cup events. For the synchro pairings, it is purely down to the selectors discretion - but realistically, I think we can all be pretty sure of the teams.
  20. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Women's 10m Platform Finalists: Hongchan Quan - 423.20 Andrea Spendolini Sirieix - 347.80 Delaney Schnell - 314.45 Caeli McKay - 299.45 Valeria Antolino - 288.70 Elena Wassen - 286.50 Matsuri Arai - 282.20 Elaena Dick - 280.15 Emily Meaney - 277.45 Sarah Jodoin Di Maria - 271.65 PAuline Alexandra Pfeif - 252.90 Maia Biginelli - 242.15
  21. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Men's 3m Springboard Finalists: Zongyuan Wang - 510.00 Jiuyuan Zheng - 457.90 Osmar Olvera Ibarra - 433.45 Alexis Jandard - 425.60 Moritz Wesemann - 419.00 Lars Rudiger - 417.25 Shixin Li - 415.30 Lorenzo Marsaglia - 412.35 Jack Laugher - 411.35 Daniel Goodfellow - 409.50 Tyler Downs - 408.90 Kurtis Mathews - 403.90
  22. 2024 Diving World Cup Leg 2 - Berlin Mixed 3m & 10m Team - Final Result: 1.) (Spendolini Sirieix/ Mew Jensen / Daley / Laugher) 2.) (Wassen / Oettinghaus / Barthel / Wesemann) 3.) (Larsen/ Tocci / Pellacani / Jordoin Di Maria)
  23. Bello brothers have been drawn against Diaz / Alayo, Nolvak / Tiisaar and Victor Felipe / Renato in the pool stage of the Recife challenger event.
  24. It looks like Reese Lynch is back to full fitness - he's been included in the squad taking part in the Socikas International tournament this weekend in Lithuania and he has won his first round fight against Aleksandras Petrovskis. I think the selection for Bangkok needs to be done by about 17th of April so I guess this will be an important tournament for him as he will need to prove he's back to full fitness for the selectors to give him the nod for the final Olympic qualifying tournament. Also in the squad this week are Scott Richards and Hamza Mehmood in the 51Kg, Joe Tyers in 63.5Kg, Harris Akbar in 71Kg, Ramtin Musah in 80Kg and Isaac Okoh in 86Kg. Alongside the victory for Lynch, Richards, Tyers and Musah all recorded victories on the first day, but Harris Akbar was defeated.
