  2. Diamond League update: Leg 5 - Eugene (25-May) Women's 800m - Keely Hodgkinson will face off against Mary Moraa and Athing Mu.
  3. IFSC World Cup: Boulder - Keqiao Men's Finalists: 1.) Sorato Anraku 1.) Toby Roberts 3.) Tomoa Narasaki 3.) Ritsu Kayotani 5.) Hannes Van Duysen 5.) Satone Yoshida 7.) Meichi Narasaki 7.) 4. Toby Roberts qualifies for the final in Keqiao in second place with 4 tops and 5 zones. Max Milne (2 top/5 zone) and Dayan Akhtar (3 top/5 zone) also made it through to the extended final.
  5. Logistically, gymnastics and netball are relatively easy to stage - you just need a big enough sports hall. Netball could even be played outside.
  6. Brownlee seems to have gone AWOL - he hasn't competed on the main circuit since Pontevedra in September. OK Abu Dhabi was cancelled, but he wasn't on the start list there either. Yet there is still talk that the is in great shape to get a spot in Paris. I can't see it myself. I think there is a decent depth of GB men that are beginning to make some progress at the World Cup level and hopefully we'll start to see them competing in more of the WTCS events.
  7. I certainly didn't see this coming - GB have been awarded a wildcard for the women's handball Olympic qualification tournament They are replacing Cameroon and will be up against Sweden, Hungary, and Japan. Top 2 go to Paris. How hilarious would it be if we failed to qualify in football but somehow manage to get a spot in handball.
  8. athletes in the 2024 Wanda Diamond League: Leg 1 - Xiamen (20-Apr) Men's 800m - Ethan Hussey Aimee Pratt was apparently on the initial start list for the 300m Steeplechase but she's not on it anymore. Leg 2 - Shanghai/Suzhou (27-Apr) Leg 3 - Doha (10-May) Women's 800m Jemma Reekie Women's Pole Vault - Molly Caudery Leg 4 - Rabat/Marrakech (19-May) Leg 5 - Eugene (25-May) Bowerman Mile - Josh Kerr Will be interesting to see how many other Brits make the start lists. Not expecting many in the Chinese double header but we should see a few more by the time we get to Doha and Rabat.
  9. Start lists are out for the WTCS in Yokohama Men: Alex Yee Barclay Izzard Women: Beth Potter Kate Waugh Sophie Coldwell Olivia Mathias
  10. To be fair, given how the budget for Victoria was allowed to spiral out of control and the fact that if it goes wrong this time, it would pretty much guarantee the end of the Games, any host city/nation would face a higher degree of scrutiny and control.
  11. Track Cycling Quota Simulation ahead of final qualifying event in Milton. As I've said before, I think the team pursuit quotas are now set. The situation for team sprints - both men and women - is still to be finalised. Ahead of Milton kicking off at the weekend, I'll try to take a look at the individual events to see what needs to happen to move the dial for the individual quotas.
  12. Although if I was the CGF I would want to be exercising some degree of control over how that money is being spent.
  13. Bear in mind that they will be getting paid to host though and if they already have the infrastructure in place from the African games, then so long as they don't go nuts with the size and scale of it, then the actual cost of hosting could be pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.
  14. IFSC World Cup: Boulder - Keqiao Women's Final: 1.) Janja Garnbret - (4 top/4 zone) She really was the class of the competition with 10 flash efforts out of 13 obstacles. 2.) Camilla Moronia - (2 top / 3 zone) She was the last qualifier for the final so a great result for her 3.) Luo Zhilu - (2 top / 2 zone) 4.) Zelia Avezou - (1 top / 3 zone) 5.) Erin McNeice - (1 top / 2 zone) 6.) Anon Matsufji - (1 top / 2 zone)
  15. Great start to the season for Erin McNeice as she qualifies for her first IFSC World Cup Boulder final.
  16. IFSC World Cup: Boulder - Keqiao Women's Finalists: 1.) Janja Garnbret 2.) Zelia Avezou 3.) Anon Matsufji 4.) Erin McNeice 5.) Luo Zhilu 6.) Camilla Moronia --------------------------------- 7.) Madison Richardson 8.) Chloe Caulier 9.) Stasa Gejo 10.) Oceania Mackenzie
  17. Whether they are involved or not, I don't think it impacts their participation in the relays come Paris. For the most part, I'd be surprised if they didn't take the strongest possible team as they'll want to nail down all 5 relays at the first opportunity and even a second tier GB team should be able to get top 14.
  18. You're right. They're both on the funding list - I didn't scroll down to the last section of the funding list
  19. UK Athletics funded athletes who would be eligible for relay consideration: Women's 4x100: Dina Asher-Smith Daryll Neita Imani-Lara Lansiquot Asha Philip Bianca Williams Jodie Williams Men's 4x100: Zharnel Hughes Eugene Amo-Dadzie Jeremiah Azu Adam Gemili Jona Efoloko Nethaneel Mitchell Blake Mixed/Women's 4x400: Lavia Nielsen Victoria Ohuruogu Nicole Yeargin Ama Pipi Amber Anning Yemi Mary John Mixed/Men's 4x400: Matthew Hudson-Smith Joe Brier Lewis Davey Alex Haydock Wilson Rio Mitcham
  20. Selection policy: 2024-World-Athletic-Relay-Policy-Final_4-April-2024.pdf (uka.org.uk) The selection for the 4x100m was apparently finalised by 19th February whilst the selection for the 4x400m was to be finalised by today. Selection allows for team of up to 8 athletes for each of the 5 relays so theoretically, a maximum of 40 athletes.
  21. The qualification window for the World Athletics Relays closed yesterday and GB have qualified for all 5 relays. I've split this out from the broader athletics thread as I think there will be plenty to talk about both ahead of and during the event.
  22. I am sure at some point over the next few days a certain poster will be online saying that GB will not be sending a team to World Relays because of budget constraints at UK Athletics. I sincerely encourage you to ignore him.
  23. With the Swimming Champs done, I've got time to look at some of the reporting ahead of the Olympics as media outlets begin to consider medal prospects. These are the predicted athletics medalists (track only) from Pulse Sports - a Kenyan media outlet. Please don't shoot the messenger - this isn't an endorsement of their prediction. I share it purely for information and discussion. Men's 100m: Noah Lyles Ferdinand Omanyala Letsile Tebogo Men's 200m: Noah Lyles Letsile Tebogo Zharnel Hughes Men's 400m: Steven Gardiner Antonio Watson Muzala Samukonga Men's 800m: Emmanuel Wanyonyi Marco Arop Emmanuel Korir Men's 1500m: Jakob Ingebrigtsen Josh Kerr Yared Nuguse Men's 5000m: Jakob Ingebrigtsen Jacob Krop Yomif Kejelcha Men's 10000m: Joshua Cheptegei Jacob Kiplimo Daniel Simiu Men's 3000m Steeple: Soufiane El Bakkali Lamecha Girma Simon Koech Men's 110m Hurdles: Grant Holloway Hansle Parchment Rasheed Broadbell Men's 400m Hurdles: Karsten Warholm Rai Benjamin Alison Dos Santos Men's Marathon: Benson Kipruto Sisay Lemma Eliud Kipchoge Women's 100m: Sha'Carri Richardson Elaine Thompson-Herah Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce Women's 200m: Shericka Jackson Elaine Thompson-Herah Gabby Thomas Women's 400m: Shaunae Miller-Uibo Marileidy Paulino Salwa Eid Naser Women's 800m: Mary Moraa Aithing Mu Keely Hodgkinson Women's 1500m: Faith Kipyegon Women's 5000m: Faith Kipyegon Beatrice Chebet Letesenbet Gidey Women's 10000m: Gudaf Tsegay Letesenbet Gidey Sifan Hassan Women's 3000m Steeple: Beatrice Chepkoech Winifred Yavi Faith Cherotich Men's 110m Hurdles: Tobi Amusan Deveyne Charlton Cyrena Samba-Mayela Men's 400m Hurdles: Femke Bol Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Rushell Clayton Women's Marathon: Tigst Assefa Peres Jepchirchir Amane Beriso
  24. Aquatics GB have signed a 5 year deal with the London Aquatics centre to host the GB championships through to the Olympic Trials for LA '28. A great decision from them given how well the event has gone this year. Hopefully they will also be able to sign ongoing deals with BBC and Channel 4 to provide coverage of the event - although it would be even better if the BBC showed it on an actual channel rather than just online or on iPlayer.
  25. Men's qualifying in Keqiao cancelled due to the weather and all of the men will be advanced to the final. Before the weather set in, Toby Roberts was in a great position having completed 4 of the 5 obstacles - all in a flash effort. I'm not sure whether that is a sign of great form or whether the routes were not as difficult as they could have been (3 other athletes had completed all 4 obstacles in flash efforts and there were flashes recorded for multiple climbers. Max Milne had completed 2 boulders - both in flash attempts. Jack Macdougal completed the first boulder and managed to top in 6 efforts. Dayan Akhtar didn't have a chance to get his competition started.
