Only England can qualify Great Britain? It's about time England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland get their own NOC's to stop this always returning mess

Josh reacted to Rafa Maciel in Triathlon Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
The test event is not a direct quota event - so no new quotas will be awarded - but a lot of the nations are using it as a team selection event.

It’s not like modern pentathlon is nailing it in the universality, promotional, or television departments either.

Khudadadi won a gold medal in taekwondo. She was one of the two representatives from Afghanistan at Tokyo 2020. Now, she competes as a refugee with support from the French team. What a story it would be if she won gold in Paris!

Josh reacted to MHSN in Wrestling UWW Under 20 World Championships 2023
we had a RUS/UKR match in 3rd round of 79kg and the Ukrainian guy (after being beaten very badly) didn't shake hands and went the other way along with his coach. apparently nobody cared and the guy is not disqualified. (yet)
looks like UWW simply ignored the rule they never really enforced before (just except when they had some other motivations )

Konstanze Klosterhalfen officially out due to injury.
On a more cheerful note, Heroes Square is getting ready for the marathon and race walking events.

Belgium had some good years and good teams in senior basketball but without competent youth categories that's like a fluke. Now, they are losing to Netherlands.

Day 1 in Cincinnati and we are on the second rain delay already. This tournament also looks to be a joke in the making. And it's a joined ATP/WTA event so the schedule will be a bigger problem.

Josh reacted to phelps in Sailing WS World Championships 2023
I also see that a lot of races have been stopped/posticipated right now because of very light wind (and in fact in the Nacra 17, Tita/Banti almost threw away their big lead over Gimson/Burnet because they had to race in unfavourable conditions...and also compromised their ranking earlier today, meanwhile made an unbelievable comeback up until the 3rd place )
in the mixed dinghy (470), instead, the light wind helped to a double race victory that moved them in 2nd place overall (after starting with a 14th and a 15th place in the first 2 races ), behind only a crew
why do we have these 2 boats doing well only with opposite wind speed?

To be fair, they are trying - possibly at the expense of the soul of the sport - no longer the cavalry officer's escape, closer now to an infantryman's escape.
Without being facetious, I would have thought a) GPS technology, b) drone cameras and c) computer graphics should make sailing a readily televisual sport. The GPS should allow very clear graphics of where on a course a boat is, immediately providing some narrative structure, backed up by decent drone footage.

^ Pretty much how OBS covered sailing during Tokyo 2020. I liked what was offered and found myself watching sailing more than I expected.

Italy has been super strong in women's cycling for a good while, to be fair. There was always some Italian or another to beat Marianne Vos to her 520th consecutive silver

What dominance by @Surreal 17 points clear of all other medalists.
Congrats also to my good friend @maestro for silver, and @Agger for bronze!

Josh reacted to dullard in Athletics WA World Championships 2023
I figured as much when there was no statement from a more official source like AIU, World Athletics or even Amusan. It seemed like the Nigerian press were confusing her being on the entry list with her being cleared to compete.
