  14. I would put the M2x and M2 as serious medal contenders given they won medals at this year's world championships and are on an upward trajectory. Definitely in with good chances. Also Mona McSharry in the women's 100m breaststroke was just inches away from a medal at this years world championships where she finished 5th. I'd put her in the outside chance category. Leona Maguire in women's golf definitely has an outside shot at a medal also. I'd be inclined to say Mark English and Andrew Coscoran would be off the list. For example, I think even our sailing team or even the eventing squad who I don't fancy at all could be more likely to sneak a medal than either of them. But it's not really on the cards.

  16. Our Olympic Trial will take place after Worlds next year. As Dullard said, it is a "safeguard" event for the athletes. Tbh, I didn't even know that, CBDA has estipulated so many criterias for this event, that I've no idea what is the mission of our athletes in it haha. Seems they will open a kind of opportunity for those who don't take the marks at the Trials, to be selected through this competition.

  17. have quite a good number of medal chances, even for gold - Rowing (M2-, LM2X and maybe more) - Shooting (men's AP Jason Solari, women's Rifle events Nina Christen, Audrey Gogniat, men's 3-position Rifle Christoph Duerr...just to name those already qualified, but they will add more for sure) - Beach Volley (women) - Sailing (women's ILCA 6 Maud Jayet, men's 49er Schneiter/Planta) - Swimming (men's 200m back Roman Mityukov, men's 100m fly Noè Ponti, men's 200m IM Jeremy Desplanches) - Road Cycling (both ITT, Marlene Reusser and Stefan Kung, maybe even the women's Road Race) - MTB (both races, basically any rider they choose) - Freestyle BMX (women, Nikita Ducarroz) - BMX racing (women, Zoè Classens...and maybe more; men, the full team) - Judo (men's -73kg, Nils Stump...and maybe more) - Slalom Canoeing (Martin Dougoud has some chances also in the M K1) - Athletics (men's LJ, Simon Ehammer) - Fencing (men and women's Epee) - Equestrian Sports (Show Jumping, team and individual competitions) and I'm sure I forgot something

  19. In an earlier thread I made this prediction, if I had to update I would downscale Breaking to 0-1 medal, switch Maike van der Duijn (omnium) for men's Madison and add maybe 1-2 more rowing medals. But for a best case prediction let's add: archery mixed team, Mathieu van der Poel (cross country or road race), rowing M1x and M8-, Sailing Nacra17 (Van der Meer/Bouwer) and a gymnastics medal (Naomi Visser, Sanna Veerman or Sanne Wevers?) For a total of 17-40 medals

  24. The question of ratings and viewer interest is a separate issue to team size but for what it is worth, I think UKA have done an abysmal job in promoting the sport in the UK. But on the issue of the GB team in athletics and why it has been picked up by the BBC, it comes down to a question of fairness - athletes across about a dozen sports earn their place at Olympics through their performances across the year building their ranking. UK Athletics has chosen to ignore this and is likely to be the only GB federation which will reject validly earned Olympic quotas. It was disappointing that there was more outrage from athletes over the sacking of Stephen Maguire than there was about 19 athletes being denied the chance to compete at the World Champs. Hopefully a lot of those folk who had their World Athletics invitation rejected this year are able to hit the qualifying standard - it would be the best way to stick two fingers up to the UKA selectors.

  41. According to the specialist speedkating website, schaatsen.nl, the Dutch team has lodged a complaint: they claim the Korean women skated one fewer round. As I understand it, according to our national coach, the jury has acknowledged this, and the expectation is that the result will be changed accordingly, hopefully before the next World Cup event in Beijing in early December .

  43. I was wrong. If you sum the total World Cup points won (excl. relays) in week 1 versus week 2, then Italy is indeed under-performing compared to Stage 1. Most improved are: +336 points (796 vs. 460) +115 points (1143 vs. 1028) +115 points (716 vs. 601) Biggest decreases: -151 points (442 vs. 593) -142 points (211 vs. 353) -121 points (243 vs. 364)
