  9. You guys should visit Malta. I could never drive in that country I didn't get to see any sports events, but I did check to see if any international stuff was in town. Greek football and basketball seem intense, so I think I'd want a local guide/friend if going to a game. I think I had the rice only version of Gemista. My family eats a similar American version with rice and meat for dinner quite frequently. Chicken gyros were also a wonderful surprise, since those are less common in the US. I had some sort of Lemon Lambchop that was pretty good too. Paying for water during a meal was my least favorite thing about Greece and Europe. Water is viewed as a right in the United States. Most places offer it for free, even if you don't purchase any other drinks or food.

  10. @Makedonas @Wumo Just realized the Acropolis Museum and National Archeological Museum are two different things. I went to the first, not the later. I stayed at hotel near the "Plaka" district. I mostly explored the area around the Acropolis, Parliament, and Panathinaiko Stadium. I used one of the "all access" passes offered for the major archeological sites, which I made very good use of during my short time in the city. I stepped inside the Church of Panagias Grigorousas, but I wished I visited a few more Orthodox churches. I wanted to go to the Athens 2004 Olympic Park, but I was too busy exploring other places. Plus, I wasn't big on spending money for transportation. The taxi ride from the Acropolis district to the Athens International Airport was NOT pleasant on my wallet. I ate at a few places, but I liked the vibe of a place called "Cave of Acropolis," so I ate dinner there every night I was in Athens. They had live music and a nice view of the Parthenon. If I were to return to Athens, I'd probably focus more on modern Greek culture, or areas outside the main tourist area. I normally want a very "authentic" experience when I travel to a foreign country (I want to know what daily life is like, and be engrossed on the local culture), but I felt like I needed to visit the big sites since I had the opportunity. Outside of Athens, I'd be open to visiting Olympia/Patras, any of the islands, and maybe Thessaloniki as a tourist.

  11. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've never been to the National Archaeological Museum. I thought about going last year when I was in Athens but I'm pretty sure it is near a bad area of the city, I'll probably go again later this year so maybe I'll check it out. Yes, Greeks are not the most careful drivers especially in cities It's too bad if you didn't go to any sporting events while you were there, but next time definitely check out some islands or mainland - northern Greece (Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Mount Olympus, Meteora...) Did you have gemista with just rice or with rice and meat? My grandmother made the best one, with rice and meat, but I've found that the vegetarian version is more common in taverns, at least from my experience!

  12. 10/10 on architectural planning. I spent a solid hour just looking at the ruins under the museum. Who knew Ancient Greek sewage design could be so interesting? I would threaten the national supply of "Gemista" if I ever immigrated to Greece.

  13. Me and my wife have just visited Athens. We had some great days in Athens. First time we visited Greece and got to experience the country. Visit Acropolis and the National Archaeological Museum and other historical sites. Had some really great food experiences. Ate a lot of Greek salad as my wife loves feta and now had the chance to enjoy authentic feta. We experienced that a lot of the restaurants and cafées were very quick to serve our food. Probably the fastest services me and my wife had experienced in all of our vacations. The people of Athens were also very friendly and helpful people. Only downsides were the very narrow streets in som areas of Athens and you have to look out for cars and scooters as they can tend to go a bit fast even in small areas. Overall a fantastic experience in Athens me and my wife had and would we gladly come back another time and hopefully explore other parts of Greece. P. S. A big plus was also the time of the year we traveled to Athens. As it was Februrary, there wasn't too crowded with tourist at the many attractions and sites. The weather was sunny and cloudy with very little rain with temperatures around 14-17 degrees during the day and 7-10 degrees at night. Very decent and pleasant temperatures to walk around in at our stay in Athens.

  16. If you mean the draw (which I doubt) the answer is no but of course the competition will be streamed on UWW website (like all of their official competitions), which is not free anymore. no "final" or repechage this time, only the direct elimination competition with semifinals (Olympic Qualification matches) later at the evening session

  18. Dear Mohsen, since many years I am a follower of this site, but - due to my "jurassic" age, I'm 62 - I have posted very few messages and only when my rage against some fellows - you can imagine who - was high (I have sometimes complained with Sindo about the lack of good manners of some guys)! Anyway I have never given-up to read some topics and the ones which are really interesting and coming from a real expert, are yours, both dedicated to wrestling and weightlifting, so my congratulations from the deepest of my heart; I am a statistician of track & field and I had the luck to personally attend four summer olympic games plus some world athletics championships; but I lately became increasingly interested in sports like - besides an ancient love for amateur boxing - wrestling, judo and taekwondo;in order to learn more, I have developed draws/brackets sheets on "excel" for the continental championships/games and olympic and world; I am slow in compiling those sheets, but I try to be accurate at the utmost with names, homonymous and translitterations (contrary to the federations sites, which are sadly replete with many stupid mistakes - until five profiles for the same athlete ! -), to be 100% precise (heritage since when I used to be an ATFS member ...); combined with my love for languages and names, that helped me to start to like the wrestling videos (at Rio 2016 Olympics I managed to attend live some wrestling matches too; I must say that my specific ignorance has been often mitigated by the general knowledge of the sports, which allows me to at least appreciate the skills of the best). I am trying to follow the wrestling olympic qualifications and I wonder why the continental and qualifications championships do not coincide/match ? Would not have been easier for the athletes to wrestle once at all for the continental title and olympic qualification at the same time? I understand that some athletes are already qualified thru the world, still I am surprised to see this waste of time and energies (so much precious in a demanding discipline) ! Do you have an explanation ? Thanks again and I renew my compliments for your expertise. Fabio Majocchi

  21. I'm no expert in women's wrestling but I except Mexico to qualify a couple of guys at least. I think your top guys rested for the Pan-Am Champs which may help them a lot this weekend. but they also lost the benefit of being seeded. so luck will play a big factor in the draw for them. I think your best chance is 57kg and 86kg freestyle. Zahid Valencia's brother is good but he just moved up to a new weight. and at 57kg, I think you just have to hope you don't get USA in your side of the bracket. and you will probably get one in Greco too.

  22. Apart from the direct Olympic quotas, ISA games are also important to define Universality elegibility. An athlete must be top50 in either the WSG23 or WSG24. In 2023, 4 athletes were top50, 3 men from El Salvador, 1 woman from Nicaragua. MEN 33 Porfirio Miranda 49Bryan Perez 49Daniel Monterrosa If I'm not mistaken all surfers that go through round 3 and/or repechage 4 will be top50 (top54 more precisely). On men's side, Liam Wilson, Yeferson Lopez Oscar Guzman and Cody Merritt are still on the repechage round 2. WOMEN 13 Candelaria Resano All female surfers qualified to round3 and repechage 4 are top48, so even 3rd places on repechage 3 (tomorrow) are elegible (49-56). If I'm not mistaken only Lucy Jarrard is still on the run (qualified to repechage r3), besides Resano. Perez and Resano participated on a training camp in Teahupo'o last year and I guess they would be favorites for the quotas, but not sure how Perez is doing now.

  25. USA went to world cup with basically it's 3rd team. You really can't compare Olympics and World Cup from American point of view. 2004 is hardly a good comparison. Best American team arrives in Paris. Much better comparison would be 2008 and there's really nobody as strong as Spain's team from that year. If something like a lock exists, both US teams in basketball are locks.

  26. Here's the calendar on the World Aquatics site and here's the Totallympics version that I've been updating Yeah, definitely not a fan of your federation's harsh standards. If Amelie Blocksidge hits the OQT but misses the BQT and they don't take her, I might just bring my pitchfork to British Swimming's headquarters.

  33. Honduras has an OKish guy at 97kg Greco and since Cuba is already qualified in that weight, and USA and VEN will be on the other side of the draw (because of seedings) I highly doubt Mejia loses the quota this time. but beside that, I believe the rest of the quotas will go to big Pan-Am countries. unless other small countries have some NCAA American wrestlers who can do something. I know some of them do.

  35. Okay, but there'd still be a glaring issue if they win that appeal. ROC still technically fielded then an "ineligible" athlete, as Valieva's doping infringement is backdated to December 25, 2021. To quote the statement released by CAS after the ruling:

  37. Yeah I gave up looking through the World Aquatics site looking for the calendar so figured I'd post it anyhow as it feels like it's been a while since GB had anybody new hitting an OQT. Now all she needs to do is repeat it at next week's Edinburgh International meet for it to count for World Aquatics and then again in April at British Champs for it to count for British Swimming! What could be simpler?

  38. What they are smoking is that they say ISU Rules only allow for a DQ of a team if you test positive at that competition, not testing positive from 7-8 weeks earlier.

  39. Not an Olympic qualification event unfortunately. Could be added later though.

  40. If Sky Brown does qualify she'll be the first in two different sports since 1992. And, if you discount Fencing/Modern Pentathlon and Swimming/Water Polo doubles, the first to compete in completely different sports since a member of the Greek basketball also threw the javelin in 1952

  41. And show must go on. russians filed 3(!) appeals to CAS (from ROC, national skating federation and all the team mebers including Valieva). Their demand: ROC team must be awarded with gold medals... including Kamila Valieva.

  45. hmm , this is very early because I believe those lists are not final, for example in US they will have some kind of trials for the qualifiers. US is obviously the top favorite to complete its freestyle quotas, they will also win few Greco quotas as well. I see some American wrestlers (mostly NCAA wrestlers) representing other countries, making the prediction a bit harder. for example Mexico has Anthony Valencia and Roman Bravo-Young. Cuba has some new guys here but when you talk about Cuba, they are always dangerous. but they are losing in freestyle and most of their new guys are very weak. in men's freestyle (which I'm much more familiar) Canada will be top favorite for 125kg quota, I believe 86kg quota is also possible depends on the draw. same as 57kg. I think 74kg field is wide open, same as 97kg. I don't think 65kg is possible. there are 3 much better wrestlers in the draw. seeding will play a big role here. the Pan-Am Champs will be helf few days before this. we will see how many of these guys will show up in both events.
