  22. in the old glory days, it was normally twice a year... nowadays there are new training methods, new ideas, a lot more scientific knowledge around physiology, some money can be earned in the commercial meets (that didn't exist until a few years ago)... so, many swimmers can keep a very high level of performance through almost the whole season, or at least through the main stints in a season but a true peak, really at 100% of their chances, it's maybe twice a year for those who have tough internal selection, if not even only once a year (the "Big" event) for those who can afford that (the stronger Italians, for instance, are among them)

Thomas Ceccon likely to skip the World Champs (decision not official yet, but his coach released an inteview that basically confirmes that) p.s. the 50m Pool Europeans will be held from June 10th through June 23rd, site is still TBA...that's crazy! it means that not a single swimmer going to Paris will be there, wherever they will be

  33. To be fair, quite a large number won't make it to the third or even second athlete For example the Brazilian girls are there, but since the guys start first, I am not sure they're even actually going to the venue today (like when Brazil started in the mixed relay in an IBU Cup some years ago, it was woman-woman-man-man, and the second of the two men wasn't even in the same country )

  45. Netherlands for sure want to play in OQT2. Don't forget has one of the best players in the world (Ana Gros) and is simply a very underestimated team (they always draw France and Norway in the early stages, like this year). The match for places 7 and 8 is played after the match for places 5 and 6. So if there is a loss somewhere on purpose, it is in the match for places 7 and 8.

  46. Lucky Hungary, but still deserved. The past years I really enjoyed watching the Hungarian players. Like last month, when I watched their friendly match against The Netherlands live in the stadium. And for you as a fan @Vektor really nice too. I remember all your amazement, anger and disappointment about the Hungarian women's team over the years on this forum. Then it's nice to get a great chance at the Games. Hopefully they make it in the end!

  48. Lol, Vytautas Strolia 1+0 managed to get a medal here I'm rather more surprised with Maksim Fomin 0+0 in 6th, only 4 seconds behind Vytautas. Hopefully he can showcase it on the snow, with Kaukėnas and Dombrovski in bad form for what feels like decades, Fomin could become our nr. 2
