  3. I believe people here are more interested in the Olympic weights so I drop the non-Olympic weights even though based on the number of wrestlers you can see they are still matter and we see something like 25-30 wrestlers in each one of them. keep in mind Russian wrestlers are out of competition for a while. they had their own tournaments but I know some of them didn't train 100% since they weren't sure if they are coming or not. so they might underperform badly. 57kg to me Higuchi is the #1 favorite and he is in the top half alongside Harutyunyan, both of them have some problems with cutting weight. if they do that properly I believe Higuchi is going to win the whole thing. Atli is there too the bottom half is much much tougher, with Uguev Micic, Aman, Abakarov and couple more guys like Abdullaev, Richards, Rzazade and the Mongolian. our wrestler is here too but he is just a kid and most probably will lose in the 1st or 2nd round. if Uguev is in a good shape (which I doubt) he is my pick for the silver medal. I also can't wait to see IND/ALB match in the 2nd round. Abakarov is technically great but Aman can beat everybody by making them dead tired. if Abakarov really makes it to the SF he will be really tired against Uguev. my picks for the quota: 65kg the top half is just brutal with our World Champion Amouzad, Olympic Champ Otoguro and Russian new sensation Mamedov (they consider him VERY good) I don't give a chance to everybody else but still we have some other big names like Lee (USA) and Musukaev (the best wrestler in the world if it was just 2 minutes ) Otoguro and Mamedov will meet first and the winner will get Amouzad. so if Amouzad wins that will eliminate one of those guys which is a great news for the rest. because I believe they are top 3 of this weight. in bottom half we will have an interesting match between Haji Aliyev and Tulga (MGL) in the 3rd round. and the winner will get Tevanyan. I'm going to drop the great Aliyev because he is aging but he is a great wrestler and he can always beat anybody. the 4th quarter looks too easy and we will have one lucky semifinalist. my picks for the quota: 74kg top and bottom halves look equal but you can see some big names next to each other in the 2nd quarter. Olympic Champ Sidakov has to win 3 back to back matches against former world medalists to make it to the SF. I have a feeling he is not that physically prepared for that. so I hope our guy Emami can beat him in the 1/8 final. and the winner will get former World Champ Tsabolov Sidakov couldn't ask for a more difficult draw. still you can't underestimate an Olympic Champion, I believe he will go to the final but it's highly possible if he loses to one of these guys (hopefully to ours ) bottom half is no easy too. we have less big names but there are 4 very big names there! I believe we will see two very interesting quarterfinals between Salkazanov/Kadimagomedov and Chamizo/Dake. great matches, but Dake is my favorite to win the whole thing. he lost badly to this Kadi guy at the Olympics and I'm sure he is waiting for a re-match. Salkazanov is a tough guy, I don't know how his match up will work with Kadi. Salkazanov is stronger, Kadi is more technically gifted. I go with Salkazanov simply because Kadi didn't wrestle much recently. maybe out of shape a bit ? my picks for the quota: 86kg this weight is always easier, Yazdani and Taylor will meet in the final and only a miracle (or an injury) can change that. it's hard to pick the bronze medal winner from the top half. I can't see a favorite , even for the 5th quota. I think that will be between Makoev and someone from the top half (Gocen maybe ?) which will be a close match. Makoev is lucky that he can lose to Taylor early, if he was in the 3rd quarter (which is more balanced) he could lose to KAZ or AZE and I won't be surprised if any of these 2 guys upset the new Russian guy. he wasn't impressive from what I saw my picks for the quota: 97kg top 3 medal favorites are in the same half! our guy Goleij has to beat Sadulaev in the 3rd round to stand a chance. personally I consider Sadulaev the best wrestler of all time but he looked completely out of shape in his recent matches. but I think underestimating him is a crime. he is always #1 favorite unless proven otherwise. Sadulaev has to beat Baitsaev first and then Goleij to meet his old rival Snyder in the semis. I hope he wins and brings back our guy to the repechage but I have a feeling Snyder has the upper hand this time, yet I can't predict Sadulaev losing, just can't bottom half is indeed easier, we have both European finalists from AZE and GEO and I believe Magomedov will win this time. hard to see anybody beating these two guys, but BLR maybe ? or Yergali (moving back from 125kg) or maybe slim chance for Nurov. my picks for the quota: 125kg we have 3 favorites and I think all 3 of them will easily make it to the SF. I'm a bit biased so I pick our guy Zare to win the whole thing. Zare and Akgul are in the top half and the loser will take the bronze medal but their match is also important to determine who is going to finish 5th from the top half. at the bottom half Geno lost to this big Mongolian guy last year but I believe it won't happen again. he is going to win the semifinal against no matter who. 3rd quarter is more balanced, I think it will be between the Mongolian and Parris. I go with the experience 5th place match will be interesting too. if Geno goes to the final the winner of POL/RUS match most probably will finish 5th and has to face probably either UKR or BLR (depends on the semifinal result) my picks for the quota:

It is my great pleasure to formally announce the United States as the host of TISC Open 2023! . @Olympian1010 was the sole bid this time and it means TISC will return to the USA for a second time, 5 years after they first hosted TISC Open 2018. We are all excited to see what America has in store for us and we wish our hosts the very best of luck on their organisation of what will surely be another great contest!

  16. There is no info on who's fault was this accident, just that it had happened, when he was on his way to the airport to fly out to the WC. You are right about Redzhep, though he was a wrestler His car had hit a hole on the road, the tire punctured and went of the road. What can i say, there is long standing opinion, that weightlifting is cursed here. I can't remember a time, where there isn't some kind of scandal, or issues, or plain stupidity that's happening. At least people aren't dying currently like they did 15-20 years ago. Though the current crop of athletes are with the same level of WTF, either it's Fischerov's car crash, Nasar's bizarre home incident, Andreev's ongoing mental lapses, or Hristov being thrown out of the team for bad behavior, awful training regime and his attempts to be a rapper... Still none of them have reached the peak of worldwide weightlifting legend Galabin Boevski, who was caught in Brazil for cocaine trafficking, sentenced to 9 years in prison and then mysteriously released after 2 years without any explanation.

  23. Yeah, the coverage is terrible, I assume they did not find an agreement with the public TV (which was expected to cover the entire race, it was even in the TV schedule 2 days before the start), so there no professional broadcast of the race, sadly. The only one is the stream of the race organizers on their youtube channel, which is, yeah at absolute hobby-amateurish level I would say (only last 20km or so... and limited cameras..., so yes, definitely not-watchable).

  24. Brackets are out. you can't see them on UWW website but I have some of them most of our guys are getting Russia early in the draw. 97kg and 65kg draws are brutal. 74kg too. we have one potential ISR draw at 61kg but that's unlikely too. at 65 and 97 all favorites are in the same part of the draw. we will see some lucky finalists/medalists

  31. Ultimately, the Victorian Government defaulted on a validly entered contract, so it was always likely that they were going to have to pay substantial compensation when they decided to cancel. The compensation is actually to be paid across 3 organisations - Commonwealth Games Federation, Commonwealth Games Federation Partnerships and Commonwealth Games Australia. Although the breakdown is not being made public right now, the assumption is that the lion's share will go to CGF and CGFP. This will be to compensate from the loss of revenue/sponsorship etc. from the cancellation but there would be no reason why this money could not be used to support a new host. With regards to India - there were initial suggestions that they could be interested in stepping in as replacement and that may yet happen. Despite the points you raise, ironically the biggest factor in favour of India stepping in as hosts would be to maintain those key Indian sports on the schedule and in particular, ensuring that shooting remains in the Commonwealth schedule. As you say, Indian officials were not happy that shooting was not on the programme for Birmingham but it shouldn't really have been a surprise to anyone that this was going to be the case - the pistols used in shooting events have been banned in the UK since the Dunblane school massacre. As for Canada, they're not on the hook for any compensation because they didn't drop out of hosting - Alberta, after exploring whether or not to bid decided not to proceed. Now that the question of compensation has been settled, the CGF focus will turn to finding an alternate host. They will be making the argument that hosting a games does not have to cost billions of dollars but it does need "mature" hosts to come forward i.e cities that have existing facilities in place, don't need major infrastructure upgrades to be made and are willing to make pragmatic decisions.

  38. women's -81kg Gold: Liang Xiaomei 281kg Silver: Wang Zhouyu 277kg Bronze: Eileen Chikamatana 256kg Wang won the snatch gold with 122kg, meanwhile Liang won also the C&J gold with a world record mark of 159kg nothing changed in the OQR of this weight class, except for the absence (suspect doping violation) of Iryna Dekha, which means that Kim Su Hyeon is now 10th (she was 11th before Today) with 245kg women's -87kg Gold: Lo Ying-Yuan 245kg Silver: Yeinny Geles 244kg Bronze: Jung A-Ram 241kg last year's world champion, Solfrid Koanda bombed out in the snatch phase (3 faults @ 115kg), but won the C&J Gold medal with 156kg, 23 kilos more than the world champion from (who won the snatch gold with 112kg) we'll see Tomorrow how much influence these score will have on the super-Heavyweights category (I doubt they will have any, however, as they're already way lower than the -81kg class)

  40. @hckošice Did they mention anything about technical issues or something in terms of making the broadcasts? The official YouTube channel has a sort of stream, but it's mostly consisting of showing a few seconds of cyclists, then one or two guys in a studio talking for a while, and then a few seconds of some cyclists again (but no graphic at all, so no idea how far to go, differences, etc, basically no information at all and we can't get it from watching because most of the time no cyclists are being shown at all ). I presume there must be some sort of technical issue (Wednesday and yesterday at least, I didn't get to today's stream yet), but my Slovak is....well....yeah Mostly I'm happy with your reports here, so....gonna give it a try......hvala?

  45. No surprise they hadn't collected enough samples. Anti-doping is very poorly funded in tennis. I haven't read the whole report but I saw it mentioned elsewhere that they didn't pursue her in 2014 and 2017 because of a lack of data (AKA not enough samples collected). I wonder how many other athletes have been flagged in this manner but continue to compete because the anti-doping system is underfunded.

  46. OK, I've now read the full ITIA decision on Halep and it really can't be much worse for her. There's a strong suggestion, although it can't be conclusively proved, that she was doping since 2014.
