  1. Now here is an adventure unique to equestrian. Martha Del Valle travelled to Germany a year ago to prepare for the Olympics. But then the Olympics got postponed, and since shipping a horse overseas back and forth is so incredibly inconvenient, she was basically forced to stay in Europe for a whole year and find a job. Anyways, now she is officially selected to be the Mexican representative in dressage. @mrv86 https://www.eurodressage.com/2021/05/03/mexican-martha-fernanda-del-valle-quirarte-en-route-tokyo-stop-portugal

  2. Yeah in principle those semifinalists have their places secured. I will wait until every event is complete though, as I’m afraid this time and under FINA’s own rules, the athlete quota is likely to be surpased. So for the time being we can add the spots earned in semis, and correct them once FINA confirm the quotas awarded at this event.

  6. UCI has finally updated their qualification documents. Basically, the Olympic rankings for cross-country, BMX racing and BMX freestyle will include the next two World Cup events. If they don't occur, they will take the Olympic rankings on the June 7th update. Also the BMX racing World Championships quotas have been reallocated to the Olympic rankings

  7. FINA will be forced to break their rules by the courts because of a poorly written qualification document. Unless athletes and NOCs decide not to fight it...

  8. Final entries count is 458 athletes from 84 countries, which i think is a record number of countries in the Covid era?

  9. The qualification rules clearly state: ˝The 18 highest placed athletes at the FINA Diving World Cup 2020 will each obtain one (1) quota place for their NOC with a maximum of two (2) athletes per NOC˝ So this means all semifinals here have a spot at the Olympics. This doesn't mean 18 athletes from this competition will qualify, because also NOCs who already have quotas from before, are also included in this TOP 18. I understand your math, but you must know that FINA was wirtting these rules under the assumption that only 136 will be allocated during the process. It is now clear that this number will be overreached, and there's nothing FINA can do about it. They can't change the rules retro actively. But there might be a loop hole in the rules: ˝If an athlete who has obtained a quota place in accordance with FINA Rule BL 8.3.8.3.3.4 has not been entered to the Olympic Games, the quota place shall be reallocated˝ Does this mean the athlete with a quota has to compete in one event at the Olympics or else the NOC loses the quota? This might be a way for FINA to get closer to 136 limit....

  11. I agree with you: it was extremely awkward at first, but now this is getting more and more suspicious. Now that this has been published on the IOC website and that news have been spread, it would cause too much commotion and it would anger many, many people, to just plain mention that this interpretation is wrong. FIG will probably just stick to this nonsense and confirm the quotas to Sri Lanka and India. At this point, I don't expect any kind of reasonable outcome anymore. So, probably WAG quotas go to and , and MAG quotas go to and .

  12. That's exactly what is bugging me about this story. I find it extremely hard to believe that an honest person would feel so confident about it, despite the "NOCs without a team" part. If I were in such position, I would have made damn sure that my interpretation was correct before starting any celebration... Let alone before sharing it with anyone else and basically risking a humiliation.

  15. No, Mexico still has a chance. The thing is: if the event is canceled, then FIG apparently applies a different set of rules that would not allow already qualified nations to add another quota. Now, if the event takes place, nations which have already qualified in any way are able add another quota. In this specific scenario, the wording is very confusing regarding the cancellation of an event and, honestly, it allows for multiple understandings. To be brutally honest, since the cancellation of the Asian Championships would not add extra quotas to China or Japan, FIG just interpreted the rules in a way that adds chances for more people to watch the event. At least a couple hundred/thousand Indians will be interested, if not millions. In the end, it's just business for FIG. Pelo que eu acompanho nos bastidores, nenhuma. The Pan American Championships will happen no matter what, because Brazil's only chance to qualify Rebeca Andrade is making sure that the Pan Ams will take place. And since Rebeca has a real shot at a medal, maybe even more than one, Brazil decided to host the event for the first time in 16 years. Surely, the Brazilian Federation wanted to avoid losing a quota thanks to FIG's BS procedures if the event were to be canceled.

  17. It's not a true! In diving we have a numer 138 divers, 68 per gender, 32 for women's teams, so 36 for two events, 18 per events. After world championships we have 34 places taken! If we have 34 places before World Cup plus 11 athletes in trampoline, and got for example 10 athletes in platform, we have 56 places, only... 12 for synchro event. You must remember about the limit! In women's trampoline only 5 places was taken by the same person in trampoline and platform. It is very depend on China, Mexico, UK who will arrive in Tokyo. In this case you will have more athletes than Fina rule in olympic system document. "It's not 18" it is "up to 18" Only 136 athletes gain quota. Nobody more.
    1 point
  18. I agree, FINA might try to remove the lower ranked top 18 athletes to try to fit the athlete quota, but any court challenge will likely be in favour of the athletes just from the way the qualification document is written. I imagine for the 2024 Olympics there will be a change in the qualification process to ensure this doesn't happen again.

  19. So that would mean Mexican gymnasts have no longer a chance Tired of this bullshit of news outlets/federations/coaches not actually taking the time to properly read their rules and understand them, then opening their mouths to say lies for lazy “reporters” to spread it I’m not against actual journalists and reporters who do their jobs, just against those that repeat info

  22. the 18 semifinalists guaranteed their ticket for Tokyo (respecting the NOC limit etc.), so they're safe. But those reallocated quotas on Wikipedia are a guess, because no one knows how many athletes we will have competing in two events and so.... But TOP 18 is qualified officially

2 hours and we are in round 4 of 6 my God, this is it for me At least Randal has been very consistent just his fourth round dive gave him a bit of problem but I can see him qualifying to the semis and getting the olympic quota, unless some bizarre thing happens but since almost everybody is missing dives and having a rarher poor performances I think Randal just needs average dives in round 5 and 6 and he is in, already have enough cusion

Yeah, the rule is not clear, so I’ll wait until every event here’s completed so we can add every athlete earning a place and identify those most likely to double in one or more events like Woo and Punzel, to see if the total entries is below or above 68 per gender and 136 in total

  38. Then I agree with the person who earlier said in this thread that only allowing 8 teams is absurd, they wouldn’t even have to allow more athletes. At the same time tons of completely hopeless teams are allowed to compete in other sports: Water polo: South Africa, Kazakhstan Field hockey: South Africa Football: South Africa, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Honduras, Zambia, Chile Handball: Bahrain, Angola Table tennis: Australia, Egypt, Serbia, Slovenia, USA, Hungary, Poland, Canada, Cuba, India Volleyball: Tunisia, Venezuela, Canada, Kenya, Argentina Swimming: Poland, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Israel, Lithuania, Switzerland If they would reduce team sports to 8 teams by throwing out useless teams, they could actually allow all good athletes to compete in other sports like fencing.

  39. Sure. So HKM Zvolen vs HK Poprad is the 2020/21 Tipsport Extraliga Final.
