I do agree that they rather go with a non-European nation due to the dominance of the continent, but I wouldn't completely rule out North Macedonia, especially if they only apply for this event while Sri Lanka applies for many. Cape Verde has also had a good relationship with FIG so they may get the nod, even if their athlete is inferior.

guys, Greco-Roman Wrestling is the history of this sport...this is the discipline that was present since the very first edition of the modern Games...and it doesn't include women's competitions...point. I just wish all the worst to those who even think about a further cut to the Wrestling Olympic program... gender equality has really become an obsession that doesn't make any sense in the way it's intended right now... it's OK having a place for both men and women within the entire sport, but nobody should even think that they must have the same number of events and athletes, when it's more than obvious that no sport in the world has so many female participants as males (not to mention that a relevant part of the world doesn't support -to say the least- women's sport at all)... p.s. and someone should explain to me why nobody think about kicking artistic swimming and rhythmic gymnastics out of the Games program, as they blatantly reject any male presence (even when it should be possible to expand in that direction, but the IOC just said no to FINA when they proposed to switch from the all female duets to the mixed duets already in time for Tokyo 2020)? frankly, I have to repeat myself once again...I find irritating all this talking of this farce named gender equality...and even more I find annoying every kind of justification of this sh*t which is just destroying the world of the Olympic sports as it's always been appreciated by the only fans the Games can have...

The Slovenian gymnast competed for Russia a few years ago. She has always been among the top 8 Russians, so it's only natural she will qualify representing Slovenia (this year she won a bronze medal at the World Cup circuit and a silver medal at the Grand Prix circuit... She's fantastic). Serbia has no chance at all, unfortunately.

they also didn't mark the Friendship tournament in Japan but then those results are counted here https://www.iwf.net/qualif/menu/ that makes me believe more mistakes are possible and Africa Games being counted simply makes sense. that's a major competition.

I don't find African games being counted. In calendar section of the IWF website it shows the category of competition (Gold, Silver,Bronze)there is nothing in front of African games

USA allows it only for the World Championship (because they have to) and after torturing our athletes for something like 4-5 months. (they have to go several times to the USA embassy in Turkey) that's how it is. better not wasting time and money. they already announced Moradi is going to Switzerland. PS: I had to contact several people in Iran WL federation to make sure they know the rules. fortunately they knew.

@thepharoah it seems the IWF calendar isn't completely accurate ! for example they didn't list the Friendship tournament in Tokyo (Olympic test event) as an Olympic qualification event but then I see they count those results here https://www.iwf.net/qualif/menu/ there might be other eligible events as well. but when I checked the situation for Mohamed Ihab, he had 3 events in the first period. but still nothing in the 2nd period (may-October 2019). he has to participate in one of those 2 events in USA or SUI, even a poor result will be enough for him.

At present, only one Egyptian male lifter has participated in a period 2 event: Ali Ahmed Sayed Ashour in IWF Junior World Championships. In the female side, also only has participated in a period 2 event: Mahmoud Rania Mohamed Ezzat in IWF Junior World Championships.

that will be enough to keep them alive. we have the same problem with our Olympic champion Sohrab Moradi, because of a surgery he missed this WCh, and if you see most of those October events are continental events. only 2 events in USA and Switzerland are possible. you have to participate in at least one of them. (and since USA won't let the Iranians to participate, Switzerland is the only chance for Moradi, even with one hand, he has to participate)

oh that's terrible. and beside that. your athletes "need" to participate in an IWF-sanctioned event in this 6-month period. if they don't , they can't participate at the Olympics no matter what. suspension or not.

No. he retired after a doping ban. our federation also won't let him wrestle anywhere even if he changes his mind. when you are banned for doping you have to pay something to the UWW as penalty (I don't know how much) and our federation has a rule that the wrestler himself has to pay that. he didn't though.

Seema starts of against Stadnik in Rd of 16. If she wins against Stadnik (not happening), next up could be RUS. And Stadnik needs to defeat Sun/Irie in Semifinals to pull Seema in repechage, where she will have to defeat Nigeria and Russia to get quota. Quota chance is there. A fresh Stadnik should be favourite in semifinal specially in case of a energy sapping quarterfinal between Sun and Irie. Vinesh starts against Sophie Mattsson in Qualifiers. Next could be Mukaida in Rd of 16 and Sarah Hildebrandt in Quarters. Winner of this quarter should be favourite in Semis so once again chance is there in Repechage. But, very tough draw.

What a sad news. He probably isn't the first person who posted on Totallympics to pass away in these 8 years, but he is the first we acknowledge the death and it is very sad. I wish all users who disappeared did so because they lost interest in sports and not because something happened to them. hukbrazil will be missed, he was on Totallympics since the very first period and he never had any argument with any user in all these years. It is heart breaking to see he connected on Totallympics just last Thursday and he will not be able to do that anymore.

No. The order (I think) was 2019 Euro Games, 2019 Universaide, World Aquatics Championships, 2019 EYOF, Urban Games are next week, Beach Games In October, Youth Olympics in January (but most qualifications are done).
