  3. Individual, easily the greatest biathlon discipline. At least to me. And Wierer makes it easy to cheer for her, such an exciting and brave athlete. Cheered for Hojnisz too, shame for the misses.

  5. Well;I did find todays competition as exciting as any other distance..and then some. The distance biathlon competition ain´t broken.Only a fool would try to fix something like this. I don´t want any more sprints or any more mass starts.Actually,if one cannot follow a competition like distance biathlon then it´s the personal IQ that needs fixing me thinks.

  6. Ooooooooor, we could do the original gender relays with 4 women or 4 men, but every single team gets a Norwegian man with the best skis to start at any (1-5th) leg that they see fit and you would draw your Norwegian from the pool just like you draw a bib number in the sprint.

  7. I am extremely happy that I managed to fight my way towards two free days to follow the women's and men's individual races live from the comfort of my own home If the shooting goes well, we can expect some more good results from the Lithuanian team

  10. Annoying, unnecessary and overreacting but not weird for me. It's the priority political mission of the local governors to contain the spread and preventing virus coming into their ruling area. The governors from less developed or rural area tend to take those simple and crude actions. Human right is something fancy only heard about and political mission accomplished is the only goal for them.

  11. here we go, the sound was off entirely in morning session on Mat A, that's why they put a music on it. it was great if we could hear the conversations though.

  12. yes Naserpour was man of the day. it was something like 4 hours between matches, he had enough time to recover that's just a little mistake if you check UWW website it's 2VFO, which means both wrestlers are disqualified, apparently their software just show one of them as XXX df XXX. but in fact all 3 wrestlers got disqualified. they awarded only 1 bronze medal. there was no second guy on the 3rd place podium. I assume those 2 other guys just didn't know they had to wrestle the repechage and left the stadium. if you watch the end of Hedayat-KGZ match, most people didn't notice what happened at the end. they were probably watching from the distance and left the stadium when they assumed the KGZ guy lost the SF and therefore eliminated them. rumors here say he failed a drug test in Iran, and he received the news only today ! I'm not really sure but one thing is for sure he knew he was on drugs and will fail a real test for sure. but I have to tell you some tests inside Iran are not accurate, because of the sanctions and mostly financial reasons they can't test everybody in qualified and legit labs. I know our wrestling federation created some kind of tests to just check the wrestlers in the first place, if they find the results "suspicious" they will send the sample to a lab in Germany for more investigations. it seems he received the news about "being suspicious" I'm sure he will get a long term suspension, either by WADA or by Iran NADO, this got viral in Iran and now everybody knows about this accident. and wrestling fans are extremely angry on him for "ashaming" the history of our wrestling. even if he doesn't fail a drug test, they will ban him from the national team because of that behavior. I will post the video later that was really shameful.

  13. all finals were one-sided today, 4 of them ended up with technical superiority ! Iran won 2 golds, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and India won one gold each. Iraq and Tajikistan will also bring back home a bronze medal but not because they are improved ! but because they were lucky with the draw. Iraqi guy had to beat Jordan for the bronze ! and the Tajik guy had to beat Kuwait ! but the most funny things was 87kg podium with only 1 bronze medalist ! the Iranian guy Hedayat obviously didn't want to win any medal. but there was a little problem both other guys in the repechage didn't show up for the repechage match, I assume they were confused too they didn't notice the guy who beat them (from Kyrgyzstan) won his semifinal (despite being down 7-0 and only 6 seconds left) and I assume they already left the stadium. it was nobody to wrestle Hedayat for bronze therefore they didn't award that bronze medal. 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze and 1 fake injury for Iran in the first day. both of those 2 defeats were really disappointing, they both lost by technical superiority ! Poshtam won the World Military Games few months ago beating some top guys like Nemes, but then he was like a harmless baby in the final. obviously he is only good against certain type of wrestlers (like Nemes for example) for tomorrow I expect nothing less than gold from Kavianinejad and Saravi. it will be much harder for 3 other guys.

  14. well, she's one of the most promising juniors of her age groups... at the recent junior worlds in Switzerland she was 2nd in the Individual race and 3rd in both the Sprint and the Pursuit events... I think she has a bright future ahead of her...hope she's not gonna waste her undoubted talent...

  15. Absolutely: it’s slow to start but once it gets going you get decisive moments every two-three minutes. As we saw today even starter number 100 could have won.

  19. Third PB in as many races for Milena Todorova (17th). She's gonna qualify for the mass start now? It feels like she's scored more points in the last three races then the entire Bulgarian female team since Dafovska's retirement A new low for Synnoeve Solemdal. She finished only 13 secs. ahead of Amanda Lightfoot with the same numbers of misses.

  20. Still think that the 4th shoot in the Individual is the single hardest test in biathlon. In fact, the 20th shot when you are at 19/19.

  21. Hojnisz 15/15. I fear she's gonna miss two in the last shooting though

  24. 2004 is rare example of where exclusive is good. It’s hard to have a more powerful motto than “welcome home”. I mean, it’s the land that started both the ancient and modern games. On the flip side, “Amigos para siempre” works so well because it’s simple and fun to say. “United by Emotion” might be the worst one on there (this is with me refusing to acknowledge 1936 entry, and the aftermath of 1972). It’s not fun, it doesn’t sound good in English, it has nothing to do with Japan. It’s weak.

  27. Classic modern Daytona. 135 laps of boredom and then the shitshow began. The last 20 laps lasted one hour

  28. If that ever happens the IBU would probably switch to those stupid laser riffles and Biathlon will become as boring as Modern Pentathlon’s laser run :/

  30. And France and Norway get a Lithuanian to compensate?

  31. Yeah in in cross-country skiing the big teams have 50 freaking pairs of skis per athlete and a whole science team of wax technicians behind them. I know it ain't gonna happen, but some sort of cap on the equipment budget would be nice.

  32. Athletes not needing/having their personal rifle would actually be something I'm in favour of. It's such a huge obstacle for smaller nations to even have a decent rifle.

  33. I think I know that fairly well by now And I get and agree with your point about the pursuits, but it seems like they're adding more and more. IBU Cup gets changed into some sort of testing grounds and even from there qualifying for World Cups is being made harder. It's the only way to qualify though..
    1 point
  34. They cannot remove pursuits and such, because you needn't forget that IBU cup is not only a qualification competition, but it is also the gateway for younger, less experienced athletes from larger nations such as Norway, Germany, France etc. that would be sent off to the World Cup level, get a 35th place in the sprint and would have 0 pursuit competition experience compared to athletes that have long been on the tour. For example, Lithuanians ALWAYS go backwards in every single pursuit that they participate. Why? Mostly because we never qualify to them, so pacing problems, shooting problems, all of that really can be seen in a technical race such as the pursuit. And most especially that's the only HEAD to HEAD practice if you can't qualify to the mass start and in relays, the second leg from smaller nations is usually already out of it, so you're on the shooting range with two other people at best. Another point is that you can't overcrowd IBU cup with individuals either, because athletes from smaller nations would just die on the course. People lose 7 minutes in the sprint, seeing yourself 22 minutes behind in 104th place would not really inspire you to compete further.

  35. Me reading this thread: I wonder how we came from everybody was in favour of having more Individuals, to some saying "your generation has destroyed all traditions in winter sports" or "your generation's greatest contribution was doped athletes"? The internet is indeed a fascinating place...

  36. And no, get those mass start 60's out of the IBU Cup, thank you. And take the pursuits with you out of the IBU Cup. Sprints and individuals as much as possible there, since it's a qualifying level and one can't qualify through pursuits or mass start 60's or supersprint 85's or whatnot.

  37. What a fiesta My two cents: if anyone removes the individual races from the programme, I'm coming after them with a weapon. Leave your super sprints and mass starts 60 for the IBU cup, thank you.

  38. Biathlon is a complete niche sport in USA. You used to be right up there in nordic combined too and it's like Steamboat Spring has fallen off the Earth or something now. The rise of freestyle skiing has killed all the traditional winter skiing sports in USA IMO.

  39. In a time trial over a hundred athletes can start. In a mass start, 60 maximum. So they’d be getting rid of all the minor countries.
    1 point
  40. This is the same BS excuse they used to get rid of time trial races in cross country. Now even 10km is a damn mass start there. Totally pathetic. It's 21st century, you got big TV screens in the stadium where you can follow the live results PLUS everyone has a damn smartphone these days where you can follow the live results. IBU's live timing page is a work of art where you can check everything instantly. Don't sell me "people are confused" crap because it's a complete nonsense. It's not 1979 anymore.

  42. United by Emotion of Tokyo and Passion Connected of Pyeongchang in Chinese almost share the same translation which means Passionate Party. I guess the Korean and Japanese version are more or less the same. Maybe that's the reason why no official Japanese version motto at all.
