Kianoush Rostami just broke the oldest world record in Fajr Cup in Tehran , with 175+220=395 he broke both CJ and total records at 85kg.

And he didn't use his third attempt in either lift!

We could see something very special in Rio!

Belarus are reporting that both Aleksandr Venskel and Nastassia Novikava have been disqualified from their 4th place finishes at the 2015 World Championships.

This is case 3 and 4 of the Olympic qualifying period for Belarus and should mean a quota place is removed from them

Surprise, it's not Novikava's first one: she was already banned from 2003 to 2005.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Two Kazakh London 2012 weightlifting champions reportedly fail drugs tests after samples re-tested

The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan have confirmed that five athletes from the Central Asian nation are among those to have failed re-tests.

No names have been given, but it has been reported that two-time Olympic under 94 kilograms champion Ilya Ilyin and women's under 53 kilograms London gold medal winner Zulfiya Chinshanlo are among the group. Ilyin, the world and Olympic record holder in both the clean and jerk and overall categories, is a four-time world weightlifter of the year who also claimed global titles in 2005, 2006, 2011 and 2014. He is also a two-time Asian Games champion who is considered one of the greatest Kazakh sportspeople of all-time.

T

he failure has been reported by Italian website Il Tempio dello Sport and Polish website Polska Sztanga and has also been referred to extensively in the Kazakh press.

Chinshanlo, the women's under 53kg champion in London, has also won three world titles in 2009, 2011 and 2014 and was reported as having failed by the China Post.

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) neither confirmed nor denied the reports when contacted by insidethegames.

If both ultimately are stripped of gold, Russia's Aleksandr Ivanov and Taiwan's Hsu Shu-ching could stand to be promoted to the top position.

IWF President Tamas Ajan indicated during a visit to Iran last month that four London 2012 and one Beijing 2008 gold medal winners were implicated.

Kazakhstan also claimed two other London 2012 titles: for Maiya Maneza in the women's under 63kg category and for under 75kg lifter Svetlana Podobedova.

There have been no reports of either having been linked to failures, however.

Eight Russian have also failed after London 2012 retests, with three names have been reported. Hammer throw gold medallist Tatyana Beloborodova and shot put silver medallist Yevgeniya Kolodko were named by Russia's public sports channel Match TV on Tuesday (May 31).

Russian cyclist Etakerina Gnidenko has been confirmed as having failed by the International Cycling Union (UCI).

Turkey's Adem Kılıççı has also been provisionally suspended by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) after a retrospective failure

Start book for the American championships is out.

I guess we can expect quite a battle for the men's quotas, considering that no American nation is qualified except Colombia. On the other hand, in women's division pretty much all the big nations are already qualified (COL, VEN, MEX, DOM, USA, ECU). Canada and Chile should safely qualify, while the battle for the last two spots will probably be between Peru, Puerto Rico and Cuba.

It's always weird to see an athlete from a different continent competing. What's Iran doing here?

This guy was banned for doping till October/November 2015 and because of some administrative mistakes (they wrongly announced him "retired" to WADA) he had to stay out of weightlifting until few days ago. and per IWF rules you have to compete in two tournaments to be eligible for Rio, that's why he is here, Ajan himself invited him. Actually Iran hosted a Grand Prix few days only and only because of him. he is a gold medal contender.

btw we had Belarus in Asian Championship.
