Track Cycling at the Cycling UCI World Championships 2023

Recommended Posts

After a chaotic race I believe Vincent Hoppezak finished 6th. Not a bad result at all. Him and Jan-Willem van Schip are competing for a single Olympic ticket alongside Yoeri Havik in de madison/omnium. Will be interesting if Havik/Van Havik can do better than 6th in the madison later this week.

Sounds like there are protests due to the scoring. Niklas Larsen tells that before the final sprint he thought he was in 3rd place due to the scoring table (but it's not Denmark with the protests). Pretty scandalous!

Yeah, there was a big revision during the last 10 laps, Portuguese guy went from 220+ to 180 or so.

The omnium format is incredibly stupid, the first 3 events are pretty much pointless.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Agreed.

And when even in the 4th event judges start to throw laps around randomly, the whole thing becomes a joke

It’s really just a point race with extra steps (when the judges don’t f it up).

The points gap in the first three events should be larger.

The problem is only one. Track lenght. 250 meters are too short. When tracks are 333,33 meters long, every competition was much better: madison, points race (then, omnium), sprint, was much more clear and spectacular.

The original omnium had a rather nice balance of bunch racing and TT, short distance an longer - it felt like a genuine all rounder test, rather than just another points race.

    • this is not funny at all, pal
    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
