There is a huge difference, really. Shooting in biathlon is much more appealing compared to sport shooting and modern pentathlon. It's physical - you can see the bullets hitting targets (in slow motion at least), you can see targets being moved, you can hear the sound. Not just a sound of a shot being fired, but also a sound of target being hit or missed. When camera zooms you can see where exactly the bullets have hit or missed. Sport shooting is just following live scores, and modern penathlon is following lights. Boring. Pointless. More technical shooters and athletes that read the wind conditions well would be punished with this change. There would no longer be fun in Oberhof and things like the Belgian relay being in first place after two exchanges would rarely happen. The coaches that enthusiastically run with boards to show where the shots have landed would run with less enthusiasm.
