Complete failure of the american team staff here, seriously how to mentally send your best athlete down even more and at the same time threw away your medal chance

Well, considering the comments of americans on twitter, obviously they didn't understand this event - like myself :p

Obviously I'm not familiar with the sport, but that seems so stupid. So theoretically a team can have 2 DNF and still win?

I think you can have 4 DNF and still win.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Probably the idea here is that Miki is so good to win on red and give a team big advantage but... 🤔

They were putting all their coins on winning on points, in which case Shiffrin on red is a good choice. But yeah.

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

Yesh, Shiffrin on red lost to Bassino by 0,02! Most red losses for women were by at least 0,4 if not 0,7! Shiffrin would have smoked everyone on blue course most likely. USA will look back at this and realize how badly they blew this. DNF didn't mean jack shit here. Blue course winning times were the key. Radamus on blue course was fast enough to carry them but they put Moltzan on blue instead of Shiffrin.

she also lost by just 0.10 to Duerr. in the whole competition she was the only one who was close to win a race from the red course. nobody else was

Shiffrin will never forget this Olympics. even when she was doing great, someone else messed up her chance.

I mean that’s true in all parallel / cross formats. You can theoretically win a gold medal in snowboardcross without starting any of the rounds as long as you won qualifying and everyone else DNSs too.

Also the french are not exactly happy (and I mean at all) with the "strategy" to put Worley on red during the quarter

Yee, but let say it was on the beginning of the competition and the trend with blue course was not so clear

Well, by every run it started to be more than obvious, even the french commentators noticed it quite quickly too claiming as the main problem for the red course today the strong wind and its direction at the top part, you could clearly see skiers on red course starting to lose already on the top part, they were really unpleasantly surprised to see Worley seeded to the red track to say the least :p

    • Finals are set    An all-Canadian final on the women’s side, as Team Homan looks to win their third title of the season (and improve to 18-1) against a hungry Team Einarson who have had a less than ideal start to the season, they were also the last Canadian team to beat Homan over a year ago (same event coincidentally), while on the men’s side it’ll be a battle between Olympic medalists as Team Mouat goes against Team Gushue!
    • Yeah, it was clear. But i repeat, we need it? I think no.
    • GSOC HearingLife Tour Challenge Semifinals  Women  Team Fujisawa v.  Team Einarson  Team Lawes v.  Team Homan   Men  Team Mouat v.  Team McEwen  Team Dunstone v.  Team Gushue
    • In the past the ISU has now allowed countries without a Federation to compete.
    • yeah I know    I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
    • World Junior Championships ( Dushanbe)   Day #4 Medallists   women's -78kg Gold:  Brenda Olaya Silver:  Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer Bronze:  Eva Ronja Buddenkotte &  Dandara Camilo   women's +78kg Gold:  Lee Hyeon Ji Silver:  Celia Cancan Bronze:  Chihiro Yamaguchi &  Safa Soliman   men's -100kg Gold:  Mukhammadsodik Sodikov Silver:  Nozomu Miki Bronze:  Azhdar Baghirov &  Fares Mekhoukh   men's +100kg Gold:  Denis Batchaev Silver:  Kanan Nasibov Bronze:  Saba Kardava &  Ibrahim Tataroglu
    • 100 days to go until the first multi-sports games of the 2025
    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
