vinipereira got a reaction from konig in South American Games 2018
Colombia 1 gold ahead of Brazil in the medal table. Again an uneventful day, but next 4 days will be really interesting with a little over 150 events to go.

She was also the oldest athlete from our delegation in Rio 2016, I think.

Couldn't agree more. With literally hundreds of events to go, they've picked only 4 sports to award medals today. Disappointing.

The organizing committee does not have much scheduling experience. It's a disaster. They should concentrate the gross of the medals on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and not on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This would improve the on-site and TV audience.

We're not even halfway through all events yet (174 out of 374 were completed so far), so I think we're only gonna have some idea about final positions in the medal table after Athletics starts on Tuesday.

Dani Piedade (Handball), world champion in 2013, announced her retirement yesterday.

Not a great day for Brazil (to say the least), which was saved at the last minute with a unexpected bronze medal in Track Cycling - otherwise it would be 0 medals for us.
Tomorrow won't be a great day either with only a few outside chances. Strange that the organization didn't schedule many events for Friday and Saturday.

BTW, in a sports group with brazilian fans, this match was more followed/celebrated than most brazilian golds so far

As expected, Brazil and Argentina have qualified for the Pan American Games in women's handball.

Probably it happens something similar to the Central American and Caribbean Games in which, if between the date limit for entries and the technical meeting of the sport/discipline in question, the number of countries/competitors drops under 5, it can still be hosted provided there are 4 nations/competitors.

I think so. The Women's +78kg in Judo also have only 4 nations and they awarded medals. (unless the rule for individual events is different)

Even though the site doesn't show, I think all Karate events have a bronze medal repechage, where the losing semifinalists face the quarterfinalists who lost to one of the two finalists.
I don't know if I'm making myself clear, but I think it's similar to the Taekwondo Olympic competition format.

Yes! Dominici won! What an amazing battle for gold, and I'm glad it was Dominici who ended up on the top of the podium. She's the one who was not afraid to risk it all today and I'm sure Argentina must be really proud of her. I'd dare say she's the best female Argentine gymnast ever, and I hope she achieves great heights at the world championships.
Now, about mocking and making fun of gymnasts... I'm 99.99% sure our gymnasts would never, ever do that. They're very professional and supportive, and they are taught to always respect other gymnasts. This unacceptable behavior must have come from Brazilian fans. And, yes, gymnastics fans in Brazil are the worst, as @vinipereira said (thanks for leaving me out of this bunch). I used to be part of many groups about artistic gymnastics on Facebook, but the behavior of other fans was so toxic I left all of them and decided to follow the sport on my own. I apologize for the behavior of other fans, and I can assure you the gymnasts, and true fans, like me, love and support Argentine gymnasts (and all other gymnasts).
Time to celebrate! Congratulations to Dominici! I'm really, really happy for her! Parabéns!

That's what I thought, maybe something with the fans. Brazilian gymnastics fans are the WORST - except @thiago_simoes

Are you more optimistic now? It seems like my prediction of 1. Colombia / 2. Brazil / 3. Argentina was correct.

So Brazil is doing great in Swimming even with a young team. That's probably because the level in South America is not that great but also because Argentina didn't send the best athletes, which would have won some golds for sure.
