  1. Assuming nothing has changed recently, the scores are based off their speed, form in the turns, and tricks.
  2. @Sindothe title of the thread should probably be changed from 2022 to 2026 at some point.
  3. Olympic champion Thomas Bach has been re-elected for an additional four-year term as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 137th IOC Session held virtually today. Thomas Bach, who won gold with the German foil fencing team at the Olympic Games Montreal 1976, was elected as IOC President at the IOC Session in 2013 in Buenos Aires for a first eight-year term. This term will finish on the closing day of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on 8 August this year. His second term as IOC President will start immediately after, and will conclude in 2025. Bach received 93 votes in his favor of his re-election, and 1 vote against. Reacting to his re-election, Bach said, “Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for this overwhelming vote of confidence and trust. For me, this is even more overwhelming considering the many reforms and the many difficult decisions we had to take, which affected all of us. You know that this touches me deeply. It also makes me humble. When you elected me for the first time as your President in 2013 in Buenos Aires, I said that I wanted to lead the IOC according to my campaign motto ‘Unity in diversity’ and be a President for all of you and for all our stakeholders. This commitment is also true for my second and last term. My door, my ears and my heart remain open for each and every one of you. I hope that I can count on your continued dedication, support and friendship also during these four more years.” In his acceptance speech addressing the IOC Members, Bach said, “In the meantime, you know me well enough that I would also like to look forward and continue to achieve ambitious goals with you also in the post-coronavirus world. We learned during this coronavirus crisis, the hard way, that we can live up to our Olympic slogan ‘faster, higher, stronger’, in sport and in life, only if we are working together in solidarity. Therefore, I would today like to inspire a discussion – a discussion with you and everybody interested in the Olympic community – on whether we should not complement this slogan by adding, after a hyphen, the word ‘together’: ‘Faster, higher, stronger – together’. This could be – from my point of view – a strong commitment to our core value of solidarity, and an appropriate and a humble adaptation to the challenges of this new world.” As an athlete, Thomas Bach was a world-class fencer, winning an Olympic gold medal. He also won two gold medals with the German foil fencing team at the World Championships in 1976 and 1977. He was a founding member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission in 1981, on which he remained until 1988. In 1991, he became an IOC Member and sat on the IOC Executive Board between 1996 and 2013. He served as IOC Vice-President from 2000 to 2004, 2006 to 2010, and from 2010 until his election as IOC President in September 2013. During his presidency, Thomas Bach received the prestigious Seoul Peace Prize and was awarded the Cem - Papandreou Peace Award. He was also the main driving force behind Olympic Agenda 2020. Bach has proven to be a polarizing figure outside of the International Olympic Committee. His reforms of the Olympic Movement have found both avid supporters and vocal critics. With his re-election, the International Olympic Committee has reaffirmed their commitment to Bach’s agenda, and his reforms for governance, gender equality, and sustainability.
  4. United States of America The time has come once again for the American jury to reveal it’s entry for the Totallympics Annual Song Contest. This year’s selection was a fierce battle, with 8 songs making it to the final round. So...without further ado...I’m pleased to announce that Ashe and FINNEAS will represent the United States of American with their song titled “Till Forever Falls Apart.” Till Forever Falls Apart - Ashe & FINNEAS Lyrics
  5. IFSC has posted/confirmed the full list climbers qualified for Tokyo 2020: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/olympic-games/tokyo-2020
  6. Japan is in a lose-lose situation pretty much. Their government has invested so much into the Games that cancelling them would be a major economic waste. However, holding them without fans in some capacity will also be an economic disaster since they won’t get a return to their investment.
  7. I always forget how early in the season Paris-Nice is. It feels a little too early for stage racing to me, but quite the race so far. I think they’re averaging about 4/5 crashes a stage at the moment, so hopefully they rein that in a little bit. George Bennett’s New Zealand Champ jersey looks nice. Nice win for Bol.
  8. That’s more me being unfamiliar with Norwegian name customs. I thought Emil was his first name
  9. That seems a little unfair to Iverson. He was able to stick with Klaebo and Bolshunov for the majority of the race. Those two got caught in a fight for the lead with each other, and he profited.
  10. Here’s a list of countries who failed to achieve one man/one woman representation in 2016: failed to send a male athlete, sent two women failed to send a female athlete, sent 23 male athletes failed to send a female athlete, sent 3 male athletes failed to send a female athlete, sent 2 male athletes failed to send a female athlete, sent only one male athlete failed to send a female athlete, sent 4 male athletes Only 6 NOCs failed to send at least one athlete in each gender in 2016. That number most likely becomes larger the further you go back, but that just shows that there’s already been a trend towards having an athlete in both genders.
  11. The press release read, “For the first time ever, all 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) should have at least one female and one male athlete in their respective Olympic teams.” It doesn’t say representation needs to be 50/50, just that each NOC should send at least one athlete in each gender. Apologies, if that wasn’t clear in what I posted above.
  12. The IOC has the power to invite athletes at their discretion I believe (as they did with IOC Refugee Team in 2016 and North Korea in 2018). So they could offer a spot to those countries in need of representation in a gender. It was a while back, but my memory tells this something the IOC has already hinted they would do for Tokyo 2020.
  13. Some stats/news from today’s IOC Press Release (not quite enough for me to write an article about): This is probably the main one to note: “All 206 NOCs and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team will be encouraged to have their flag carried by one female and one male athlete at the Opening Ceremony.” Also, 49% of athletes should be female, and the IOC expects all NOCs to field at least 1 man and 1 woman for Tokyo 2020.
  14. Came across this Ted Talk after Akashi shared a clip from it on his Instagram. He’s a very good speaker, and it’s an interesting presentation.
  15. Yep, press conference to kick off a busy week that includes IOC EB Meeting and an IOC Session (137th I believe).
  16. I would agree that I like the first one better. I’m not the biggest fan of either of those though.
  17. Yeah, it was announced months ago that they would reveal the potential logos for Milano-Cortina 2026 during Sanremo.
  18. Damn, would have been nice to see St. Lucia in a team sport at a multi-sports games.

  20. WandaVision finale fell a little flat for me. Episodes 1-7 were some of the best Marvel content so far in my opinion, but episode 8 felt kind of out of place, and episode 9 kind of underdeveloped to me. Episode 8 was actually very good, it might have just been better as a stand alone film or special. All in all, good show that gets me excited for the rest of Phase 4.
  21. Another athlete retiring right before the Olympic season.
