  1. Of all the qualification systems to debate, Handball seems like an odd one. It’s definitely one of the better ones for team sports.
  2. Their website also leaves quite a bit to desire. I couldn’t any useful information regarding their selection polices on there.
  3. Which Handball does. There’s at least one team from each of the Olympic regions.
  4. This all boils down to the ISU writing a poorly worded and unnecessarily complicated qualification system. The ISU routinely has some of the most complicated and difficult to understand qualification systems.
  5. What I’m suggesting/theorizing, is those countries have been awarded the quotas via the world championships. They already have the quota, but it has to be confirmed at the Nebelhorn. This would mean that the Nebelhorn would award quotas to the best 6 unqualified NOCs, and the confirm the quotas for countries who finish where they need to in order to qualify. If any those countries fail to finish wherever needed, then that country loses a quota, and it gets reallocated to the next best unqualified NOC.
  6. I don’t see how that’s possible, unless the quotas for the likes of USA, RUS, KOR, etc. are “reserved”, and then reallocated it not obtained. I guess that could be how the ISU interprets their document.
  7. There’s a massive amount of confusion amongst journalists. I’ve been talking to a few of them Twitter, and there’s no consensus as to what the correct interpretation is. Here’s what one American journalist posted a few hours ago.
  8. Yeah, the men’s single is going to be a bloodbath at the Nebelhorn. Luckily, already have skiers qualified from the world championships. Germany is the only team nation missing a skater in the men’s event, and it’s well within the realm of possibility that they’ll be able to get that quota at the Nebelhorn.
  9. Assuming our interpretation of the qualification system is correct... Here are the countries currently eligible for the team event (after 3 events): look to be in line to gain eligibility through the ice dance There might only be 8 countries eligible for the team event after the world championships. Those quotas available at the Nebelhorn will be very important for the likes of
  10. I tried to find the Dutch selection criteria, but I had no luck.
  11. It’s a little late, but welcome to the forum @Triplecast
  12. Oh, for sure. You have to start somewhere though when trying to grow the discipline. Keeping it on the program, and encouraging participation are some of the best ways to do that.
  13. The discipline is growing though. There was an increase in entries from 2015 to 2019.
  14. Japan manages to remain within the top 10, so a second pair will be allowed to challenge for a quota at the Nebelhorn.
  15. Austrians fall out of the top 10, and so lose their right to challenge for a second quota at the Nebelhorn.
  16. needs to qualify in this event if they want to have any chance at qualification for the team event. They haven’t entered an ice dance duo, and they need to qualify in at least three events to be eligible. To be honest, the Israelis needed qualification in this event as well. At present, I don’t think they’ll be able to qualify for the team event again.
  17. According to the FIS, he was unconscious when transported in an ambulance. He was also intubated and put on ventilation. According to the AP, he’s in a medically induced coma.
  18. First time I’ve seen something like this happen.
  19. @NearPup I don’t understand how Russia is eligible for three quotas right now. Don’t their placements currently add up to 14?
