  1. Gold for Alfred No Olympic Q though
  2. Archibald holds on after a great start. He takes gold in the men’s 100m
  3. Brea shatters the Games Record in the women’s 500m. Her time (15:10:06) is about halfway between the world record and old record.
  4. The athletics venue is starting to look like a competition at the European Games
  5. will join the medal table Bronze for Djimon Gumbs in the men’s shot put.
  6. Edward DSQ from the men’s 100m. He won’t be adding to the historic medal tally. Edit: He was allowed to run, so not sure what transpired there?
  7. I’m a little late here with my final thoughts, but this edition was a bit of “mixed bag” for me. It was great being able to watch most of the sports and events. I did enjoy much of what I managed watch. Unfortunately, that’s where the enjoyment ended. The results system was awful. The event didn’t seem to draw much of crowd, except for rare instances. The sports program was also hit or miss for me. The Games just had a weird energy throughout. I don’t know where this event goes in future. I like the idea of using it as a major Olympic qualification event. I’d love to see it become a proper continental multi-sport games (with most of the Olympic program), but that still seems unlikely. Anyways, it was swell Poland, but the swelling has gone and it’s time to move on
  8. Always appreciate when the cauldron is burning during the Games. It’s got a nice little perch right above the 100m start as well.
  9. Today’s stage had a fun energy, from Powless celebrating the KOM “victories,” to Lefay chatting with the motorbike, and Lukshenko showing the fans why his tire was flat. I love when riders can show a bit of personality. It gives me a better idea of I want to support Sprint was a bit dicey though
  10. So this edition has only become a bigger mess since the last update I posted. will skip the event entirely: https://www.francsjeux.com/breves/quebec-is-not-coming will only send artists, no athletes: https://www.francsjeux.com/breves/wallonia-brussels-wont-be-sending-athletes is likely boycotting for political reasons, though I don’t believe that’s officially been confirmed… The table tennis venue will likely not be ready for the event, but there might be a backup venue available: https://www.francsjeux.com/breves/plan-b-for-table-tennis It would seem, as an outside observer, that this gamble by the CIJF has not paid off.
  11. Not much info available yet, but this should be the results system: https://results.arabgames2023.dz
  12. I thought I’d share my colleague’s article on kickboxing, since the sport was the topic of some discussion the last few days: https://discoverthegames.com/the-engine-of-kickboxing-runs-full-steam-ahead-towards-the-olympics/
  13. has to be setting some kind of record for most bronze medals without a gold medal. I’ll be cheering for them extra hard over the next few days.
  14. Elliot also bagged the silver medal in women’s skeet. Their best athletes have really delivered this edition.
  15. into the semifinals of both genders in field hockey. It’d be awesome to see them book a ticket to the Pan American Games.
  16. legitimately has some of the best depth in badminton in the region at the moment. I’m very curious to see what they can do at the Pan American Games.
  17. Discus only gets a couple of minutes of screen time on a good day, so not worth the effort to protest
  18. It’s a shame to see some of the podium contenders continuing to find trouble in the peloton (O’Connor today), but these two stages have been great. The Grand Tours need more “rolling” terrain stages like this. It’s definitely more entertaining than those pan flat sprint stages that really could just be a 20km town to town sprint.
  19. I think this is the first time an artist that I listen to has been chosen for one of these projects. (BENEE)
  20. I’ve never seen a five entry madison before, but hey, first time for everything
  21. I think the results manger for that sport is just being diligent. The documents I emailed them about are still missing
  22. Kayak cross might be the one event where you don’t want the “holeshot,” which seems insane.
  23. Kayak cross really is an abomination. I didn’t realize you could just muscle someone off course, or force them to miss a gate. I’ve seen cleaner contests in ice hockey.
  24. If the schedule posted to the official website is correct, then football preliminaries should begin today. I haven’t seen any info about streaming/television broadcasts, but I’ll post an update if I do. This event has been pretty much defunct since 2011, so I’ll be interested to see how it goes
  25. I sent the local organizers an email about the missing reports for those looking for them. I doubt anything will happen, but it was worth a try
