  1. ^ Pretty much how OBS covered sailing during Tokyo 2020. I liked what was offered and found myself watching sailing more than I expected.
  2. Coach got a suspension. I think the rider was largely seen as a victim of the format.
  3. It’s not like modern pentathlon is nailing it in the universality, promotional, or television departments either.
  4. World Athletics put out a statement that said those reports are inaccurate. They are still waiting for a decision.
  5. Duffy really put it together when it mattered this season. I don’t think he’s happy with how he climbed this year, but hopefully the quota helps him ease into the Olympic season.
  6. I think many climbers would consider bouldering in that spirit as well. It might not be as historically prestigious or prized as lead/big route climbing, but it’s definitely come into its own in the last decade. Even your traditionalist climbers like Ondra or Honnold train bouldering for fun or improvement on the big climbs.
  7. I’m assuming we’ll have stronger entries under this qualification system though, or at least that’s the thought process? The only change was the Cali 2021 and WR quotas, right?
  8. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the idea of the speed-classic discipline. You don’t see too many of those comps anymore unfortunately… You’re opinion is shared by a lot of climbers too. Personally, I find speed entertaining enough now (though maybe too random). However, I think that format would probably be interesting as well (and maybe in the traditional spirit of sport climbing).
  9. Yeah, the quota here was a nice “steal” for them.
  10. No smaller nations this time getting a men’s pair is nice though.
  11. Then I don’t want to hear any arguments from IFs/IOC that international sports are apolitical because that’s clearly and simply untrue.
  12. A sprint with designated lanes over say…300-500 meters…might make an interesting spectacle.
  13. Cool, so World Athletics has created a system that doesn’t necessarily rank runners on best performance outright (since they factor in field strength, location, etc.), which has also apparently resulted in countries not sending “the best ranked” athletes under said system. Honestly, the Russia crisis, Israeli opponent withdraws, and growing theme of NOCs rejecting rightfully qualified athletes should really provide the impetus to create a “stateless” category of athletes. Those could be athletes who chose not to represent a country, but rather compete as an individual (self-fundraising, managing, etc.)
  14. Nope. @Josh has spoken. Jenft can only be considered American now. Everyone knows his posts are legally binding and infallible
  15. Watching the keirin final, I was wondering… Is there any consensus as to whether track sprinters are better in a straight sprint than road sprinters (or they are better/equal)?
  16. These began today. I’m interested to see if this concept will be successful or not. Europe could definitely use a major multi-sport event for para athletes in between the Paralympics.
  17. The powerhouses needed a toy to play with to keep them entertained between important matches
  18. The low field sizes across the board are driving me crazy this cycle. Every discipline/event has less entries than it really needs in my opinion. I do hope it’s something that can be fixed in the near future, but it seems unlikely for now. That said, individual pursuit can stay off the program. We already have one time trial. I’d rather see the omnium gone, and a separate points race and elimination race included.
  19. I don’t think the scratch races are in the Paralympic program for 2024 though Para track cycling suffers from being too dependent on timed events rather than racing. The draw of track cycling, in my opinion, is head-to-head racing.
  20. Made the mistake of opening up X (artist formerly known as Twitter) tonight after the US loss…yikes.
