  1. There’s a pretty large and active Armenian diaspora in LA, so that might explain the choice of venue (along with the popularity of French players in the US).
  2. Typical Olympic collaboration between Atos and SwissTiming (Omega)
  3. There have been three editions of the European Games, and three different results data companies. Baku 2015: SwissTiming Minsk 2019: MicroPlus Krákow 2023: Atos So I’m assuming Bornan will get the green light in 2027
  4. It’s probably just a generic template used by Atos. It’s pretty common for wrong/weird nations to show up in the results system as placeholder data while companies load in the actual data.
  5. Pretty tough mark to beat honestly. The World Games 2022 didn’t do so hot in that department from my memory. 2022 Mediterranean Games had a somewhat limited footprint as well (although, those went much better than expected in my opinion).
  6. I would advice/propose a national day of mourning (in SUI) for him. A talented Swiss rider dying during the country‘a premier cycling event is worthy of that distinction. Plus, from what I’ve read in the cycling media, he was a terrific guy very worthy of that honor. The image of Bahrain-Victorious riding towards the line with the draped in mourning colors will be one of those somberly remembered moments in sports I think. What a sad day for cycling (and his friends and family).
  7. Nice to see him putting down a podium level run.
  8. According to the broadcast manual, there will only be commentary on athletics, aquatics, and the ceremonies. I think everything else will just be natural sound if the broadcaster hasn’t appointed a commentator.
  9. ISB produced live (or delayed) coverage of individual archery elimination rounds (1/32, 1/24) at the last two editions, so that’s the only real “loss” in terms of coverage. Broadcast manual says there will be basic streaming coverage of all field-of-play (both boxing rings, four table tennis tables, etc). However, nothing to indicated all of those feeds will be made available.
  10. has reportedly shrunk its delegation significantly over various concerns. They’re down to six entries in wrestling and couple of artists. Source: https://www.francsjeux.com/breves/le-nouveau-brunswick-reduit-la-voilure
  11. First athlete officially qualified I believe. They might also get a women’s track cycling quota through some reallocations depending on results at these championships.
  12. Where did you see/read that? I can see the schedule and past replays, but no actual information about what will be offered (outside of the program page) on that website. EDIT: Oh, I see. Info here: https://www.european-games.org/en/media-centre/european-games-tv/
  13. Mader with a very serious crash at the Tour De Suisse
  14. Dendy bucket hat remains one of the most iconic looks in international sport
  15. A little story I wrote on Bob Bertemes for those interested: https://discoverthegames.com/multi-sport-games-veteran-bob-bertemes-keeps-it-light-and-talks-athlete-mindset-its-fun/
  16. Lamont Marcell Jacobs has withdrawn from the competition. What a shock
  17. Right? My town is a huge hub for solar and wind energy, and it too routinely has temperatures over 40 Celsius in the summer.
  18. The full streaming/broadcast schedule is already available. It was shared in this thread a few days ago.
  19. All of the qualification documents are on the EOC’s website: https://www.eurolympic.org/documents-publications/?document-category=european-games (you might need to scroll down a little)
  20. Athletes in second/third division will be eligible for individual event medals in athletics. The rankings will be based off best marks overall (I believe). There will be no medal ceremonies for the individual events due to scheduling/lodging conflicts (athletes will be given medals by their NOCs at a later date). Link to EOC explanation: https://www.eurolympic.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/2023_06_12_Athletics_Medals_EG2023.pdf
  21. Also, about the state of organization, I obviously can’t have the best gauge since I won’t be attending these games in-person. However, from an outsiders perspective, I feel like there’s a lot being done right: the broadcast deal with EBU/Eurosport, a diversified sports program, solid branding (maybe more local promotion needed), involvement of the local public in the selection of mascots, relying on venues that exist rather than building expensive new facilities, etc. There’s always negativity before the European Games, but I enjoyed both of the last editions. We’ll just have to see how these go once they begin.
