  1. I certainly don’t need any excuses to travel to Lake Tahoe. I don’t spend nearly enough time in the Sierras.
  2. Water isn’t a sure thing in Southern California. The Long Beach Marine Stadium is really the only traditional spot for rowing in Los Angeles. Long Beach could remove the bridge, but that would negatively impact residents in the area. I think reducing the distance ultimately became the best compromise. There’s also a possibility Oklahoma City will be called in to host canoe slalom at the national whitewater center.
  3. Yes, that is the current plan. It’s the same venue as 1932, but the city (Long Beach) built a road bridge over the later part of the course.
  4. A little bit of hyperbole there, hopefully. While rowing is a bit cumbersome on athlete quotas, there has been a good diversity in competing nations and medalists at the Olympic Games.
  5. I’ve been thinking about a similar idea for a while too. My proposed program would be: Single Scull, LW Double Scull, Quad Scull, Pair, Eights World Rowing could then re-route the newly freed quotas to increase field sizes in those events.
  6. Not to mention, you then need to find another six to compete in the other boats, and that’s not even considering athletes in the sculls.
  7. We need resurrect the Mt. Baldy climb so Kuss can take gold in 2028
  8. It just takes a lot of bodies to field entries across the whole program. Rowing is probably one of the least quota friendly sports. I don’t see a need to change much, but these events are becoming starved for entries at the Olympic level.
  9. Or at least a very good marketing gimmick
  10. The epitome of Canadian sport. https://x.com/evandunfee/status/1697261401465848156?s=46&t=eeNhSzi4Rylqjvpt-IBinQ
  11. Nebraska set a new record for attendance at a women’s sporting event. 92,000 in attendance for tonight’s women’s university volleyball match. https://x.com/espn/status/1697060879932461216?s=46&t=eeNhSzi4Rylqjvpt-IBinQ
  12. You’d just need to add some additional stipulations. Nations with fewer athletes, who were represented across fewer sports at previous editions, and have maintained regular attendance at major events in the sport get priority. NOCs can’t get repeat invites in certain sports (looking at you ). NOCs can’t get more than one universality/emerging nations slot per sport.
  13. loses a gold medal in weightlifting due to doping. should get the reallocated gold medal, as well as the reallocated bronze medal. will add a silver medal to their final tally. A surfer and baseball player also registered AAFs. Link: https://centrocaribesports.org/en/three-athletes-tested-positive-for-doping-during-san-salvador-2023-games/
  14. Mali’s federation has re-elected thier currently jailed (on suspection of financial crimes) President. Just another day in international football Link: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1140363/toure-re-elected-femafoot
  15. Yeah, CNN+ was comically short-lived. I don’t know anyone who wanted it. Their channel model was 24/7 news, even with some peripheral shows, I don’t think interest was ever there. CNN+ was a dumb failure, but nothing beats the rise and fall of Quibi when it comes to streaming apps.
  16. I don’t think there’s a hard deadline. IOC has a lot of power when it comes to who can participate at the Games. They may set a deadline for themselves, but as prior situations have shown, those can be permeable if it benefits the IOC.
  17. Playing “Where is Carmen Sindo at X sporting event” is one of my favorite side activities that has come about thanks to Totallympics
  18. Finalized completion schedule should be released in the next few days, with the torch relay beginning on September 8th. Link: https://www.hangzhou2022.cn/En/presscenter/spotnews/latestnews/202308/t20230828_70592.shtml
  19. Just wait until someone starts the “Religions Thread”
  20. It’s totally normal thread for a totally normal group of people General Thread really is life’s box of chocolates though 😅
  21. California gets a walk-off home run to win the Little League Series. They beat in the final. If I’ve said it a million times, I’ve probably said it a billion times; California is the best state in the Union. All the fake ass states can shove it. (Okay, maybe overboard there, but we don’t get a lot of opportunities to beat other state’s champions in sports.)
  22. Giro coverage in the US has been on FloSports or GCN the few years. Vuelta and Le Tour are covered by NBC. I feel like the Giro has the worst host broadcast coverage. LV/LT also seem to attract more prominent GC riders in my opinion.
  23. Some drama at the bonus point on today’s stage. Organizers weren’t sure about the order and asked spectators for phone videos. https://x.com/raulbanqueri/status/1695826032136261855?s=46&t=eeNhSzi4Rylqjvpt-IBinQ The Giro is the weakest grand tour, but this one is becoming a bit of a joke.
  24. I actually think this one of the best qualification systems. The ICF has maximized the hell out of their quotas. Yes, it’s a bit convoluted and confusing, but ultimately it provides a fair amount of opportunity with a very limited pool of quotas.
  25. All these European users complain about a lack of medals, but clearly it isn’t that hard. I mean…just look at and
