  1. with a gold medal in the pool. It’s been a good week for their swimming program
  2. African Para Games are apparently going forward this year with only four sports on the program. Athletics, Powerlifting, and goalball have been dropped from the program due to unsuitable venues according to international standards. 14 NPCs have reportedly withdrawn from the Games as well Link: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1139203/african-para-games-hit-by-withdrawals
  3. I got distracted by judo, but Jackl became the first double gold medalist of the Games (achieved in swimming of course).
  4. Why did they need to remove anything? I don’t remember any quota reductions for figure skating.
  5. Travel to Slovenia? Good idea for Tománková @hckošice bags a gold in judo as well. earns a bronze after seven minutes of golden score against
  6. Good result Jorunnardottir Mckee did make it to the semifinals in 2019 and 2022, so it’s not like they’re totally unfamiliar with the evening session
  7. Weather catching a couple riders out in the Tour De France Femmes. The rain stayed away at the TdF for the most part, but it definitely found the women’s race yesterday. Kopecky looked good for the double with that lead out, but Lippert had a far better sprint. Similar stage on offer today, so I assume it will be much of the same. Stage 4 might create some excitement in the GC battle, but it really looks like everyone will be chasing a few second here to there before the last two stages blow the race apart.
  8. Doing my best to watch matches/events from the Women’s World Cup, Tour De France Femmes, EYOF, and World Aquatics Championships. Time zones haven’t been too kind on the first and latter. Australia generally isn’t a terrible time zone for California, but they’ve managed to schedule most of the matches from 23:00 - 05:00 my time I’m looking forward to the Jeux de la Francophonie and Summer University Games (even with withdrawals affecting both events), but those will also be a bit rough for me time zone wise.
  9. Calderon looked pretty good at the CAC Games, even if he didn’t get far in the bracket. I’m pretty happy with those choices.
  10. capitalizing on some early mistakes and over aggressiveness from
  11. Looks like we might be getting a celebration similar to the winter medal ceremonies. The renderings look interesting at least.
  12. They’ve uploaded a few into the results system, but I believe the results are also available here: https://live.swimify.com/competitions/european-youth-olympic-festival-2023-2023-07-24/events/summary/1/1
  13. There was definitely some straight running in that walk race Gold to
  14. All of those sports/disciplines have been confirmed as a part of the sports program Link: https://www.theworldgames.org/news/The-World-Games-17/Sports-Programme-set-for-TWG-2025-in-Chengdu-2466
  15. Albayrak broke his own GR to take gold in the men’s 400m free His time was still a couple seconds off the OQT.
  16. Jackl wins the first gold medal of the Games in the women’s 400m IM.
  17. The article says the club did an internal investigation and then fired him, which would seem to indicate they found some stuff during the investigation.
  18. I’m not following these too closely, but I do enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts. Mass participation threads are the best
  19. The World Games 2022 ultimately cost $65.1M. They came in under budget, but only generated $51M in revenue. A report commissioned by the IWGA did show the event created an economic impact of $165M for the local community, though that was less than originally expected as well. Sources: https://www.al.com/news/2022/08/world-games-14-million-shortfall-we-have-every-intentionto-pay-our-vendors-says-ceo.html and https://www.wbrc.com/2022/12/20/economic-impact-report-shows-world-games-brought-165-million-dollars-lower-than-original-projections/ I do think The World Games are trending positively overall. The IWGA has forged a closer relationship with the IOC. They have a pretty good slot in terms of timing. Participation seems to be trending up as well, though politics and pandemic policies affected last years turnout. They still need to improve some aspects of course. I think some of the financial woes of last year’s event boil down to some missed opportunities by local organizers. They needed to be more aggressive with advertising, ticket initiatives, and broadcast/streaming deals (in my opinion).
