  1. Right, all groups have had their second rounds of matches now. In the current situation, the third-placed teams in groups F (Portugal, 3 points), C (Austria, 3 points), B (Finland, 3 points) and E (Spain, 2 points) would qualify for the knockout round. The combination of these four groups means that the 1/8th finals involving third-placed teams would be as follows: Belgium - Portugal Netherlands - Spain Sweden - Austria France - Finland And the 1/8th finals not involving third-placed teams as of now would be as follows: Italy - Ukraine England - Slovakia Czech Republic - Germany Wales - Russia Obviously this can and most likely will change quite a lot in the last round of group play, of all 24 teams, only the Netherlands is 100% certain of it's final place in the group.
  2. Basically everyone who wins, who was not expected to win at all. Surprises Big names and people who already have a big list of major wins (especially if it already includes Olympic golds and such) generally don't do much for me, especially if it's athletes who were basically expected to win. Sports is emotion and emotion is often the biggest and best when someone surprises.
  3. Anyhow, it's always very interesting (although sadly not very positive at all usually) when you're explaining stuff about Iran on here. I think there are few countries of which it's harder to get an at least half-informed opinion without having actually lived there or something like that, both because it's so incredibly complicated with what feels like a million differeny layers to everything, and because of the language issues. I'm trying to read about this stuff on Wikipedia every now and then (at least it's in English), but usually I find myself distracted because of all the complications. So yeah, it is very, very much appreciated to have someone with all the patience and knowledge about Iran come and answer our questions not only about weightlifting, but also about way more serious things like this. No way we're going to understand Iran this way of course, but at least we'll know a lot more and that counts.
  4. Szczęsny doesn't care if his head gets blown off by that shot, he just throws himself right in front of it
  5. Yeah I thought Schick was the correct answer, taking (and making) the penalty with his bloody nose That's the biggest middle finger you can give to the player who fouled you
  6. Schick highly disagrees though (or was it Forsberg? I forgot, but I know yesterday or the day before someone scored a penalty after he was fouled, because I remember thinking 'that is some awesome revenge' )
  7. Wow, what an incredibly dumb giveaway penalty by that Polish guy
  8. Yet Kozlowski is so young, he didn't even know what football was when Bellingham set the record
  9. Wow, how did Lewandowski not make that
  10. De Boer yesterday: "It's possible we'll play roughly the same, but with one outside player, a little like Italy does." Also talking about possibly giving a few players some rest, but no decisions yet. Personally I wouldn't expect a whole lot of change, because as he said: "We're already group winner, but we also want to go into the knockout phase with a good feeling." As for Belgium, Thorgan Hazard has a knee injury and will at least miss Finland. Eden Hazard, Witsel, De Bruyne and Vermaelen are all supposed to start the match against Finland, same for Lukaku. Those are names he mentioned, at least
  11. Wow, that's a surprising non-offside
  12. Possible: day 1 (assuming the first day with medals is day 1) Anything later than day 2 would be highly disappointing from a national point of view I know nothing is a given, especially in road races, but no Dutch medal at all would be very disappointing for the team.
  13. Every time again, I wonder how the Polish anthem is not a South American anthem, it would fit so perfectly among the other South American anthems
  14. Jesus that shot from Sanches nearly split the post in half
  15. Spain - Poland is going to be a typical 15:00 match
  16. This is a fun match More than makes up for yesterday already.
  17. Damn, you score three goals, your opponent doesn't score any and still you're on the losing side
  18. No Jeroen Dubbeldam, his horse has been sold this week, Irish Daniel Coyle is riding it from now on. Not as much of a blow for the Netherlands as the Totilas drama I guess, but still
  19. Yes, that's why the 'new day, new bunch of...etc'
  20. New day, new bunch of....people, booing during the opponent's anthem
  21. Why don't we get double separator units? I think he threw 23,37.98 meters and at least 1/3rd of a quarter yard.
  22. World champion Cheruiyot has got a problem.
  23. By the way, Crouser moves so....slow. It feels like if he can improve that, he can add decimeters to his distance (if he doesn't lose strength then, of course).
