  1. I think that funding is more than enough, especially compared with so many Nations that don't have anything but fractions of what we have and still manage to win bunch of medals at any level imho, we just don't have knowhow and attitude (and maybe we're a bit short in terms of youngsters practicing the sport, but this doesn't stop our success in other disciplines, so I don't consider that a key factor)

  3. very impressive swim by Ben he's definitely one of the top (gold) medal candidates in Paris
  4. well, the girls had some interesting results in the past years (Aurora Russo is the 2023 junior european and world champion) and Piroddu also had great results in the youth classes I don't really know why they just can't translate that once they enter the senior ranks? imho, we need to invest on top class coaches (and their "unconventional" methods, which might be hard to cope with here in our society) rather than going for athletes' shopping in Russia or in Cuba (especially nowadays)

  14. he's getting old... and he's never been comfortable in the -74kg class, he was at his best in the -65kg, but he couldn't keep that weight anymore after Rio and movin'up was inevitable
  15. the federation has given Kim Polling permission to immediately switch to she's married to Andrea Regis (former player and now IJF official) let's hope that the Italian burocracy doesn't make any damage she would cover the very important -70kg class for us, which means that we could have a very competitive squad in team event, too
  16. once again, playing the not-paying spectator role oh, man...how far away the times of "Pollicino" Maenza (or even Minguzzi) are!
  17. there was a lot of hype for the men's 100m Free, but tbh, I'm a lot more impressed with Freya Colbert and Max Litchfield's IM races results if that's the standard, I think and can take care of the British 4*100m Free Relay, that was so impressive last year (they basically threw the world champs gold away with that senseless exchange in the prelims)
  18. British Swimming Championships Day #3 men's 1500m Freestyle 1.Daniel Jervis, 14.47.94 (British OQT) 2.Tobias Robinson, 14.54.75 (missed out on the British OQT by 0.46 secs) women's 400m IM 1.Freya Colbert, 4.34.01 (British OQT) 2.Katie Shanahan, 4.36.67 (British OQT) women's 50m Freestyle 1.Anna Hopkin, 24.53 (British OQT) 2.Eva Okaro, 24.96 men's 400m IM 1.Max Litchfield, 4.09.14 (new National Record, British OQT) 2.Charlie Hutchison, 4.15.72 men's 100m Freestyle 1.Matthew Richards, 47.84 (British OQT) 2.Duncan Scott, 47.92 (British OQT) 3.Thomas Dean, 47.94 4.Alexander Cohoon, 48.20 5.Jacob Whittle, 48.39 6.David Cumberlidge, 48.41 7.Alexandr Painter. 48.44 8.Jack McMillan, 48.81
  19. that's really unexpected! I thought fencing (and especially epee, which is the least "athletic" discipline) was one of those sports where people don't need to cheat like that I'm very surprised and sad because of this news
  20. men's -67kg Gold: Ri Won Ju* (total: 333kg) Silver: Sergio Massidda (total: 317kg) Bronze: Ishimbek Muratbek Uulu (total: 294kg) C&J World record @ 189kg Full Results https://iwf.sport/results/results-by-events/?event_id=599
  21. no, the qualification is nominative, not by NOC
  22. as I wrote before, the capital mistake is not having a plan B (C, D etc.) first, they should have had some kind of internal competition when possible (and the -73kg is the perfect case, with Reyes that should have been moved down to push himself and Zanni) and then try to qualify more weights (again, Ficco in the 102kg is the first that comes to my mind) same for the girls, especially knowing how mentally fragile they are...gotta put them under pressure and see who deserves to go on the international stage
  23. ops...my mistake
  24. Zanni is the first out of the qualifying positions, as have 2 in the top 2 (and only 1 man per class can go to the Games) he will surely get a reallocation (as will not select this class), but frankly he doesn't deserve that luck just forgot , make as if I didn't post the previous part... for instance, I don't know why they didn't try to make Reyes go down to 73kg or let Ficco go up to 102...it would have been a much more logical choice than the sh*t they did through those 2 years however, I still asking myself why there was no plan B? (and C, D, E, F and so on)
