Funnily enough Maksim Mrvica had a very similar start to a contest but then it all just stopped. Not expecting to stay on top by any means, but I'll enjoy every second of it. -

The only previous time we lead a contest (2019 Open), it was Caro Emerald who won. Sure, let's call it a coincidence that Caro Emerald was entered again... -

I am pretty sure Kazakhstan is getting one point now. That would be my guess anyways since the Chilean juror let us know that they awarded one point to the "best voice". -

Trick is in the Duets As we approach yet another exciting Grand Final of the 2022 Totallympics Open International Song Contest, to be staged in Czech Republic tomorrow, we will take one last glimpse at the stats. We have spoken about song duration, but what about artists? Solo, Band, Duet, Collaboration For this analysis we have decided to split all of the 656 artists who have taken part at TISC to date into four distinct categories: Solo, Band, Duet, Collaboration. Solo (single performer) and Band (a musical group) are the most basic and most commonly represented categories. Duet implies having exactly two performers. For example, two singers or one singer + one DJ. Collaboration represents the widest variety of artists. Here we have grouped all musical collaborations between three or more solo performers, one solo performer + one or more duet/band, or any other combination of solo artists, duets and bands. Out of 656 artists presented to date, we count 326 (49.7%) solo artists, 224 (34.1%) bands, 63 (9.6%) duets and 43 (6.6%) collaborations. Various types of artists are represented differently between Annual and Open editions. In the Annual editions, the share of solo artists tends to be much higher, while in the Open editions bands take up a larger role. Both duets and collaborations tend to be more represented in the Annual editions. Trick is in the Duets So which type of artists scores the most points? We have crunched the numbers and it turns out that duets on average score the most points. An average song performed in a duet is awarded 2.41 points per jury. Solo artists come in second with 2.32 average points per jury, followed by collaborations at 2.08 and finally bands at just 2.05 average points per jury. Therefore, an average solo artist will score 13% (!!) more points than an average band. Looking at the results of Open, only, it's the duets that again come on top with an average of 2.50 points per jury. They are followed by solo artists at 2.37, bands at 1.99 and collaborations which are quite unpopular at just 1.75. Looking at the results of Annual, however, things look quite different. Modern collaborations appear to be vastly appreciated among the TISC juries with an average collaboration entry being rewarded 2.40 points per jury. Duets come in second here with an average of 2.34 points per jury, followed by solo artists at 2.27 and finally bands at 2.15. National juries Naturally, different juries will always prefer different types of artists in their voting. We have decided to investigate this and the results here have certainly been interesting. We have ranked juries by their relative affinity for each of the four types of artists. Calculations were based on the juries' voting history. Only the juries taking part at the 2022 Open are included. As an example, voting history shows that the juries of Kazakhstan, Egypt and Slovenia appreciate solo artists the most. New Zealand, meanwhile, appreciates them the least, as opposed to bands which @Wanderer appreciates more than any other juror - as we all already knew. There are many other interesting factoids to be found around here. Venezuelan jury reportedly appreciates both duets and collaborations more than anyone else, while our TISC stalwart @OlympicIRL appears to host a very curious disliking towards duets. And so on. Do take your time to analyze these rankings and see where your jury is to be found! Stage / Team Prague Stags Brno Swans Ostrava Otters Pilsen Boars Ústí Nad Labem Wolfs České Budějovice Foxes Hradec Králové Hares Pardubice Pikes Olomouc Moles Liberec Salamanders Scratch Race Tempo Race Elimination Race Points Race 12 - - - - - - - - - TOTAL So looks we are going with this. Scratch Race (Votes 1-10): Teams are rewarded for total points accumulated by randomly selected representative (different nation for each leg) during this leg. Omnium points are then awarded based on the ranking. 1st Place = 50 points, 2nd Place = 45 points, 3rd Place = 40 points, 4th Place = 35 points, and so on by decreasing intervals of five points. Tempo Race (Votes 11-20): Teams are rewarded for the amount of times they are awarded points by national juries. The amount points does not matter*, only the total number of juries that give the randomly selected representative points over this leg. A perfect leg would see a team’s representative earn the points from all 10 juries for example. A ranking will be created based on frequency of scoring. Omnium points are then awarded based on that ranking. 1st Place = 50 points, 2nd Place = 45 points, 3rd Place = 40 points, 4th Place = 35 points, and so on by decreasing intervals of five points. *= Since there’s a heightened possibility of ties in this leg, points would be used as the tiebreaker. First tiebreaker would be number of 12 points awarded to each team. Second, would be the number of 11 points awarded to each team, and so on until we get to the number 1 points awarded to each team. Elimination Race (Votes 21-30): Teams are rewarded for the running total points accumulated by randomly selected representative over this leg. The first elimination would occur after the third jury vote in this leg. At that point, the representative with the lowest total leg score would be eliminated and finish the leg in 10th place. An elimination would then take place after each subsequent jury vote. There would only be threerepresentatives left at the end of leg, at which point the representative with the highest total points would be awarded victory. Omnium points would then be awarded based off the final ranking, 1st Place = 50 points, 2nd Place = 45 points, 3rd Place = 40 points, 4th Place = 35 points, and so on by decreasing intervals of five points. *= In case there are multiple teams with no points after the third leg, those teams are all eliminated at that point (with subsequent eliminations being delayed until the number of remaining competitors catches up to the original formula), with the tiebreaker being total points at the end of the leg. Points Race (Votes 31-41): Teams are given the total amount of points earned by their randomly selected representative over this stage. The points earned by that representative are then added to the team’s Omnium total for their final score. Spain 12 - As an odd member out in the only 5-member team - the Prague Stags - Spain will have a special role. Any time (if any) they are awarded 12 points, the Prague Stags will be assigned 12 bonus points, in the true spirit of "Spain 12". Final rankings are determined by the total points earned by each team after the four legs. In case of a tie in the final points tally, the team which attained more points during the Points Race will be placed ahead. Any further ties, if applicable, will be broken by the number of 1st places achieved in total during the first three phases (Scratch, Tempo, Elimination), followed by the number of 2nd places and so on until the tie is resolved. May the best team win. -

Work in progress. I gather the teams were filled in a random order so I used this same order to distribute nations to their phases. Swaps were made (for the next nation in order) in cases where nations were assigned to the phase during which they are set to vote. Per @Olympian1010 suggestion: 1st - 50 pts 2nd - 45 3rd - 40 4th - 35 5th - 30 6th - 25 7th - 20 8th - 15 9th - 10 10th - 5 DNF - 0 Still no idea what to do with Spain in Prague... Bonus 10 points for the Prague Stags whenever "Spain 12" happens? For the Team Challenge I guess we are going with this. Here are the teams: PRAGUE STAGS - , , , , BRNO SWANS - , , , OSTRAVA OTTERS - , , , PILSEN BOARS - , , , ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM WOLFS - , . , ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE FOXES - , , , HRADEC KRÁLOVÉ HARES - , , , PARDUBICE PIKES - , , , OLOMOUC MOLES - , , , LIBEREC SALAMANDERS - , , , There are two things to decide. What happens with the 5th member of the Prague Stags? And how do we determine which member performs the individual phases (scratch, tempo, elimination, points race)? EDIT: I guess for the second question we can make a random draw. If the drawn team members is set to vote during that stage, another random draw is done to find someone who is not voting then. -

So cruel for Guyana to be the highest rated non-podium finisher to date. That's some bad luck. And finally we have "Juries Who Awarded Their 12 Points To This Song: Croatia, Slovenia". Yes this just does not happen. I think this is the only such song in the Top 40, Open or Annual. -

What an odd decision for the Egyptians to withdraw... Final alone would have been a pretty big deal. Surely it can't be something as dumb as having accommodations reserved for qualification only? Can it? -
Wow, that's ridiculous. The sport is having hard time developing as it is, and now they plan to reduce World Series to an Olympic-sized field.
