  1. yes fairly serious as they are testing out their boxers for the olympic qualifiers and this is the only major event where this can happen before that , just like India
  2. https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com/sport/others/welcome-to-the-worlds/articleshow/71042007.cms a nice analysis of all the boxers
  3. Our Tokyo Prospects are mainly on 3 sports - Shooting , Boxing and Wrestling Shooting has seen a spectacular improvement in the last couple of years , so to boxing now let us see how they do Mens Boxing has been a bugbear for us - they are Good but not great - tend to have 4-5 Quarter finalists and then a spectacular fall - Just 0-1 in the semis and then no one in the Finals ( we have never won a gold or silver at the world champs ) , is it a defeatist attitude , poor last mile fine tuning or just that we are not an AIBA " favored " nation I never understood ............ So I am looking at this squad to do better ....... 1. The squad is a very new look squad with a lot of the usual boxers - Shiva , Manoj , Vikas etc not there , I think that is positive sign both from a selection angle and that there is new blood coming in 2. We have 3 seeded Boxers with Amit seeded second as the highest so that is again positive Hoping for at least 2 medals and hopefully one boxer in the finals
  4. Indian Perspective for these games Our Tokyo Prospects are mainly on 3 sports - Shooting , Boxing and Wrestling Shooting has seen a spectacular improvement in the last couple of years , so to boxing now let us see how they do Mens Boxing has been a bugbear for us - they are Good but not great - tend to have 4-5 Quarter finalists and then a spectacular fall - Just 0-1 in the semis and then no one in the Finals ( we have never won a gold or silver at the world champs ) , is it a defeatist attitude , poor last mile fine tuning or just that we are not an AIBA " favored " nation I never understood ............ 5. of these I am hoping for 1-2 medals best hopes must be Panghal , kavinder and Manish
  6. I have given a detailed ranking analysis over 4 olympics .... quite interesting
  7. I did a detailed analysis of world ranking positions by Indians In all major olympic sports ( Shooting , Wrestling , Atheletics , Boxing , Hockey , Archery , Judo , Gymnastics , TT , tennis , badminton , Taekwondo , Sailing , weightlifting ) and this is the results ) Beijing London Rio Tokyo top 100 Rankings 118 234 224 247 MEDAL slot ranking 3 4 3 14 Top 10 19 24 33 48 In 11-25 21 45 44 46 In 25-50 57 69 53 64 fifty plus 23 96 95 89 You can see that there is a Huge improvement in Medal slots from 3-4 to 14 and also a significant change in top 10 rankings by 50% increase , obviously nearly every medal will come from the 48 events where we are in top 10 or around there
  8. Hockey or TT is unlikely ...... neeraj at hist best is still behind the germans and a couple of others , so needs to improve .... I think one more in boxing is possible and so is wrestling and sindhu performs well under pressure ........but you must remember that from these a couple may fail .....so +2-3 and then -2 to 3 , i feel if we do 10-12 I will be thrilled
  9. nice results from the asian junior and cadet TT tournament ( two medals ) Junior Boys team finished 2nd ( losing to china ) but beating korea Junior girsl finished 7th cadet boys lost int he quarters payas jain in cadet boys finished with silver yashwini gorpade finished 6th in cadet girls
  10. Surprising to see Italy not have a single qualifier in Trap at the end of the cycle .... how did De felippis manage to be ranked 2nd and not qualify....
  11. A quick analysis of If we were to get medals at tokyo olympics as per world ranking in based on todays world ranking Shooting 10M Air pistol Men SILVER . Abhishek BRONZE Saurabh 10 M Air rifle Women GOLD Apurvi SILVER Anjum Mixed Rifle Team ( back of the envelope calculations - No offical ranking ) GOLD India A - Divyansh and Anjum BRONZE India B - Apurvi and Deepak Mixed Pistol Team GOLD - Saurabh and Manu Wrestling 50 Kg Women BRONZE - Seema 66 Kg Men GOLD - Bajrang Boxing 57 Kg Women Sonia - BRONZE Weightlifting BRONZE - Mirabai Chanu Total would be 4-2-4 Actually I would be extremely happy if we can do that
  12. The mens team is fairly new look .................. except Amit who is both an asian games and asian championship medallist kavinder was a quarter finallist in the last world championship so there is some pedigree ................... and satish is still going strong .......... but the rest are fairly new so definitely this is probably a good sign
  13. Indias Boxing world championship squad Panghal (52kg) Kavinder Singh Bisht (57kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), Brijesh Yadav (81kg), Sanjeet (91kg), and Satish Kumar (+91kg)
  14. starting day after tomorrow ....... India team Panghal (52kg) Kavinder Singh Bisht (57kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), Brijesh Yadav (81kg), Sanjeet (91kg), Satish Kumar (+91kg)
  15. Earth to Sanjay ....... bro are you in a reality warp.........do look at the rankings and the criteria for qualification ....... surely we will have 2 qualifiers ( the only variable is injury to Saina- if it gets worse she may miss out ) in both Mens and Womens singles .... and most likely in all 3 doubles
  16. And I thought Heywoodu was just a masochistic Brazilian ...... Keeps slapping himself with paddles
  17. I think that what you are saying may be an overstatement , the points currently in BWF race to olympic rating is all completely jumbled as some players have 4 tournaments they have played till now and some have upto 10 so making sense of the ranking is incorrect , Saina has played only 4 and her ranking is low ( and comparing her score with players who have players 7-8 does not make any sense ).......... If you see number 3 currently is Michelle Li and Tai is 9 ( Li gets that rank as she has played 8 tournaments and Tai only 4 ) so these ranks would dramatically change when all players cross 10 and are even ........
  18. The ranking closes in apr of 2020 .... if she does well in two or three major tournaments she can easily come into top 16 and qualify ..... i personally feel she will
  19. What a remarkable world cup for india ....... and year for India in pistol and rifle 1st WC - 3-0-0 rank jt first 2nd WC 3-1-0 rank first 3rd WC 5-1-0 rank first 4th WC 5-2-2 rank first ....... we are getting better ..... of course in many events top shooters may have been shooting in MQS ..... but still a remarkable achievement... I hope they can carry this thru to 2020 and Rio .....a perfect WC at rio after the disaster at Rio in 2016 with a horrible 0-0-0 in shooting
  20. Would stilli bet on manu/ saurabh
  21. qualifiers into the Quarters - MIX PISTOL TUR*2 IND*2 CHN UKR HUN SRB
  22. India 1 and India standing at 3,4 in the qualification round with just a few shots left ...sure to qualify
  23. and both Indian Pairs in Mixed Pistol seem to be sure to qualify into the quarters ....... with India winning Gold in both Mens and womens 10M pistol and a bronze in mens 10M pistol and tje fourth shooter Manu bhaker would have been 2nd in the qualification ( she shot in the MQS ) so both teams should do well
  24. yes ......both Indian team won ....... Gold and Bronze
  25. really unusual position to be in for India I must say ........Rifle / Pistol is the first sports since hockey in the 60s that we are dominating and thats just 2019 .....so enjoying every minute of it ........................................ reminds me of how IRA must feel during the wrestling world cups ( GRECO / FREESTYLE MEN )
