  1. I think there are a few sports where doping does not give any big advantage - especially accuracy and agility sports - shooting, boxing, archery, tennis, gymnastics, badminton, hockey, football ..... So they tend to be clean..... But there are sports where doping gives huge advantages - strength and speed sports - weightlifting, - cycling, atheletics, swimming and to some extent wrestling ---- here doping is rampant and technology to catch dopers is always 3-5 years behind doping........... Also some countries are covering up doping or because of huge money there are well set up commercial organisations........
  2. Long time prashant...... Did not see your daily updates
  3. Yes pretty excited with this championship - our best event after shooting . India did magnificantly to finish third last time around in India .............. The team is below , Olympic categories - I am pretty happy with the team ........Mary -51 ( multiple world champion) , neeraj -57( world junior gold) lovlina -69 ( last time bronze) saweety- 75 ( world championship medallisy but in 81 ) are all good medal prospects , I personally m not too happy to see Sarita(60) , I wish we had any of the others in that weight - simranjeet or even the sonias from the 57 ........ Non olympic categories - I think jamuna( 54 ) , Manju(48) , kavitha ( 81+ ) are the best prospects so hopefully ....... 2-3 medals in the olympic quota category ...... and 1-2 medals in the non olympic category ...... of course AIBA event so expect some biased refreeing ........ 48 manju 51 Mary 54 jamuna 57 Neeraj 60 sarita 64 manju 69 lovlina 75 saweety 81 nandini 81+ kavita

  6. In a sudden move..... FIBA includes India in the pre qualifying Olympic tournament.... Initially it was 7 from A division and top from B division of the Asia cup ...... But India finished 8th in A....... But now since FIBA could not hold the B tournament they have allowed India to participate
  7. good result in Mixed Relay - an SB 3.16.14 with Hima and Arokia Rajeev not there and also a bad baton exchange .... lets hope they can beat their 3.15.71 national record set at the asian games at the finals
  8. sadly I do not see any of the Indian atheletes till now even score a PB or even close to it - I think their build up to an event like this should be such that they run at their PB Sreeshanker was really low even compared to what he did a month back , in fact if he had made 8:00 he would have reached the finals ......
  9. But tatiana of Russia has the same weight lifts as what Li did so I am still not sure ....but if they do what will be at best an exchange of 87 and 87+ ..... Will not effect 49 directly.......
  10. jabir and dharun .....but dharun burned out .... but this may turn out to be our very worst world championship ..... almost all our big hopes are out with injury .....
  11. you are right 2003 if I remember right - bronze
  12. nice to see a good participation by an Indian ....... Jabir good job
  13. where the hell is sreeshankar ???? .... do not see him in long jump ......
  14. By the way is Saudi , UAE , Bahrain boycotting these games as they cut off democratic links for the last couple of years
  15. Good for her , I personally believe any sportsmen should fight in what makes them comfortable , I do not see how a hijab affects the outcome of a boxing match
  16. Kashyap reached SF of Korea unexpectedly good results....... He faces top seed Kento so tough fight in semis
  17. just a quick analysis of women from the weightlifting weighht championships analysing the selections of CHN and PRK for the womens weightlifting which they have dominated this time The Golden collection would be the likely chinese selection - They would definitely want 4 golds from the women I would guess they would select 49, 55, 64 , 87 where they have almost a sure GOLD , they also have a 87+ gold but with Tatiana a strong contender who can give Li a run for the money they would prefer the 49 ............. The Green shows the PRK selection as per me 76 - they got a gold so sure , 59 they got a silver but with just a Kg difference with the Taipei lifter they have good chance of gold in 87 they have absolutely sure of silver with a 17 kg difference with the next and a light chance to fight for the gold ( a 9 kg difference ) in 64 they have sure silver with a huge 11 kg difference with the next lifter ............ so Ri will lose out as Mirabai and her are in too close and less chance of a sure silver and no chance of a gold with a 9 Kg difference but you must remember this is based ion Wch , I am not sure if somestrong lifter was not there due to injury and would also depend on the form of lifters thru the year so GOOD chance that Korea would not compete in 49 diff with next non country comp 49 CHN jian G 9 PRK Ri B ( silver as two CHN) 3 55 CHN Liao G 12 59 PRK CHOE S 12 1 kg difference for gold 64 CHN DENG G 10 PRK Rim S 11 10 kg difference to gold 76 PRK Rim G 5 CHN S 10 87 CHN Wang G 9 PRK Kim S 17 87+ CHN Li G 14 PRK Kim 4th( BRZ as two CHN )
  18. Looks like we may not even be in one finals this atheletics world Championships..... Sad state of affairs
  19. I disagree, the Commonwealth Games gives visibility to Olympic sports and sportspeople which in India is sadly lacking ..... Some sports like TT recently came to the limelight only because of CWG........ But I agree they don't give any importance to India or pay attention to the Indian viewpoint
  20. I think we are getting better at canoeing sprints but slalom seems to be a bridge to far, I think it requires specialised infrastructure which I think is almost completely absent.........
  21. Am completely a novice in this sports, why did all Indian teams except k2 DNF..... I think this is the first we are competing
  22. Right thanks..... I think the IWF said then the best weightlifter from each continent from an unrepresented NOC I presume in that weight category . . . . . aus and oceania come under which continent?
  23. Quick question.... Reading through.... Qualification criteria , top 8 as per ranking very clear, then one per continent not rep in the rank ( presuming top ranked continental lifter ) , one either tripartite or host..... So if let us say we have 8 selects then 2 continental lifters from say Africa , is Aus Or oceania a continent ..... What happens to the remaining 2 ?
