  1. That's both good and kinda annoying for Berecz, Race 10 was his opportunity to make a play for the gold because Scott finally had a bad one. The gold is a bit closer to him (9 points) than the 4th place (10 points), both are equally plausible, depending on who fucks up the medal race. So for Berecz to win the gold there has to be 3 boats between them and Berecz has to be ahead, which also means that if Scott finishes in the Top4 on the medal race, he definitely wins the gold.
  2. Oh, ok, I though that the medal race can be discarded. It's kind of bullshit that one race matters more than the others, but oh well, it's still better than one race deciding everything.
  3. I almost never watch sailing so correct me if I am wrong about this: Berecz is 10 points ahead of the Dutch who's in the 4th place and Berecz's worst placement is a 9th. If he can keep this 10 points distance between him and the sailors behind him during Race 10 AND his discarded score remains the 9, he can't finish worst than 3rd in the overall ranking, right?
  4. It's unbelievable how many times Berecz fucks up the start of the race... Almost every time. He's really lucky that the the field in Finn is small and there still seem to be a big skill difference between the top sailors and the rest because the top sailors are almost never in danger of finishing outside of the Top10. Which means that no matter how much Berecz fucks up the start, he almost always saves it, just like in Race 9 where we was 13th at the first mark and then he climbed up to the 4th place by the end. Anyway, Berecz is still 3rd, if he can finish in the Top5 in the last two races, he won't lose the medal. Giles Scott is already the winner of this event, maybe Berecz would have had a chance against him if his starts wouldn't be dreadful for some reason.
  5. Fuck this, there's no way that I am watching one more match of this team because I am sure one way or another we will once again throw our medal chance away. I have never seen a team collapse in such a spectacular fashion after winning a match against the favorite.
  6. What an upset, this time from the Russians, the favorite Americans are out.
  7. We are once again playing dreadfully, and this time our opponents are better... We will lose this and the first place in the group. I just can't with the Hungarian teams at this SOG, they are all terrible in their own special way.
  8. Did NBC ask her to withdraw from her events one by one? What's the point of doing it like this instead of withdrawing everything at the same time, it's not like anything will change in just one day.
  9. What a ridiculous match, wins by pretty much doing nothing just "dancing" for 3 rounds while the Russian was punching the air.
  10. This v match is about to test which country bribed the jury more.
  11. It looks like there won't be any drama for the gold, "easy" win for
  12. upsets in men's foil. I feel like this is sort of a mercy kill from the Japanese to end the Italians suffering in fencing.
  13. This comparison between track and free doesn't work because it's near impossible for anyone to win 3 or 4 individual running events in athletics. The same obviously isn't true for free swimming events.
  14. Who cares about the popularity of the events when a swimmer can realistically win all of 200, 400, 800, 1500 just by being a great mid and long distance free swimmer? A sweep of more than 2 individual events should only be possible when someone is good in more than one swimming styles, or somehow they can win 100, 200/400, 800/1500 events. Obviously we need a second fly event because otherwise either sprinters or mid distance swimmer won't get a good opportunity in that swimming style, at that point it would more fair just to throw butterfly out of the program.
  15. Just to elaborate, this is probably a controversial opinion, but I would throw men's/women's 50, 400, 1500 free all out, have the 100 as the only sprint event, and have 800 as the standard long distance event. We got the open water anyway for those who find 800 too short. I would also leave the mix relay out for obvious reasons. 28 gold medals in the pool, sounds about right.
  16. That's pretty much the main argument against swimming having so many events. I would be in favor of cutting down freestyle events, but that will obviously never ever happen because they just added two more.
  17. I guess I spoke too soon, now even with the new events this the worst Olympics for the in swimming since 1992. And it will be worse than Barcelona if they won't win the last event.
  18. btw, without the new events this would be least amount of gold the won in swimming since 1988.
  19. The new events helped the , they will win 12, same as Beijing. They would have 10 without men's 800 free and women's 1500 free.
  20. So only 3 European countries win gold medals in the swimming pool, This might be a new negative record.
  21. Finally something great from our athletes, huge PB from Tóth in 3000m st, nicely done.
