Looking at the 2022 rankings, (36th), (38th), (42nd), (44th), and (45th) would have been in qualifying positions. (53rd) and (55th) were the next closest nations. So far in 2023, along with the top 4 Pan Am nations, we have (38th), (40th), (41st), (42nd) in qualifying positions while (52nd), (54th), (55th) are the next closest nations. I think Argentina might be Costa Rica, they were 39th last week and then disappeared and were replaced by Costa Rica.

The affects of COVID on sport still lingers. This season does show a stark difference between the top 10 and the rest of the teams. I'm not sure if this will continue or if it's a blip. What doesn't help is reducing game experience for the lower teams or else we turn into cricket where the rich get richer. As I said I'm okay with a robust 2nd division, but I'm not seeing that either.

Perhaps it was a typo? There's nothing in the qualification timeline and back in December 2022 both FIFA and CONCACAF released stories which mention the Dominican Republic competing at the Olympics.

Yeah, Pool C is very week. Uganda is the favourite to win the pool, but would probably finish 3rd or 4th in the other pools. I'd love for Tonga to win the series, but with the men's field shrinking to 12 teams, it's unlikely the winner here will survive the play-off. On the women's side, I'd keep an eye on South Africa. While not confirmed I suspect their Olympic chances ride on getting the promotion.
