  1. It looked like if Iran was going to go for the upset against Montenegro early in the second half, but Montenegro was able to regain control of the match

Looking at the calendar, I see there are seven weeks with events in Wellington from January to March. This make it a good place to farm ranking points without the stress of traveling and still have enough time to fly over to Europe (or stay and travel here). However, only Schopf (who's American-born) and Venezuela's Patricia Ferrando competed this week. Perhaps more will attend in two weeks.
  3. This weekend's ranking and MER eligible events Dressage Neustadt Dosse - CDI3* Basel - CDI-W Wellington - CDI-W Wellington - CDI3* Jumping Abu Dhabi - CSI4*-W The first Eventing event will be next week.
  4. This is women's rugby sevens, not men's. Samoa is a lot weaker on the women's side.
  5. I agree, now that Olympic quotas are on the line, I imagine the US teams will show up more often in the Pro Tour.
  6. Assuming you believe that modern pentathlon is heading towards a triathlon like format then fencing would have to go

  9. Just a reminder, for platinum level marathons, the top 5 are considered to reach the qualification standard, regardless of time
  10. Is there a list of L4 judges anywhere? I'd like to keep track on whether a nation can fulfill their team/individual quota.
  11. This is the first weekend where athletes/horses can obtain ranking points and the all important MER standard. The following events are scheduled: Dressage Exloo - CDI3* Thermal - CDI-W Thermal - CDI3* Jumping Dannevirk - CSI1*-W Eventing won't have its first event for another 2 weeks.
  12. Looking at history, I wouldn't trust Russia to uphold an Olympic truce
  13. I agree, it also helps that France is hosting and I imagine they will push hard at preventing nations from boycotting. If they can keep the United States on board then I doubt anyone outside of maybe Ukraine will end up boycotting.
  14. I imagine the scenario would require Russia to no longer advance/attack outside of the eastern Oblasts to minimize those instances. Another option would be for the IOC to allow the sport federations to decide and hope a slow trickle effect would prevent it from causing a PR nightmare and then maybe reassess in June 2024. The question would be which sport federation will take the first hit? Tennis seems like the most likely option since the athletes are already competing. Judo is another option since they allowed athletes to compete before reversing their stance later in 2022.
  15. I think there's enough support among sport officials (even those from Western nations) that the inclusion of Russia/Belarus to be possible. At least in some sports. It comes down to real politics and possibly the state of the war as we approach the end of 2023.
  16. As a reminder, the qualification/ranking period for the 10,000m, decathlon/heptathlon, race walks and relays began on Dec 31st 2022 and will continue until June 30th 2024. Additionally, marathon is also currently active (Nov. 1st 2022 to April 30th 2024). The other events will begin on July 1st 2023 and will end on June 30th 2024.

  19. I only did it for the unqualified nations. It would have taken a much longer time than it already did to complete, especially when you consider many of the already qualified nations have many chances to qualify. Which unqualified nations are you interested in seeing?
  20. I've updated the first post with the potential sports each nation may qualify in. I went through each event and wrote down which unqualified nations have a chance at qualifying (including wild cards/tripartites). This information is based on recent events and world rankings so as we get closer to the games and more athletes compete or nations fail to qualify in a sport I will continue to update the list. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Just remember, unlikely is okay, but not impossible. For Belarus and Russia I worked under the impression that they will return tomorrow (even though that's quite unlikely), but at the same time for other nations I worked under the impression that they will be fully banned. I am working under the similar ideals for North Korea for when/if they return. As we still have many middle size nations, I've only listed the sports to save space. If you want a full breakdown of a nation let me know and I can reply. I'll probably update the first post with events once most of those nations qualify. Here's the top 10 nations with the most events I gave them a chance at qualifying in. 1. Russia - 236 2. Hungary - 138 3. Mexico - 125 4. Kazakhstan - 123 5. Argentina - 110 6. Austria - 97 7. Portugal - 96 8. Belarus - 86 9. Finland - 79 9. Romania - 79 Unsurprising, the currently suspended Russia tops the list. If they were to be allowed back in tomorrow, there's really only a handful of events that they would have no chance at qualifying (mostly team sports), but would qualify at a normal games. That number will start to drop quite quickly in 2023 as they (and Belarus) continue to miss key qualifying events and ranking points. Hungary as number two is also not surprising, as besides the suspended Russia, they won the most medals in 2020 and had one of the largest teams out of the unqualified nations. After that you have the major continental powerhouses which benefit from continental quotas while also being a present at world qualifiers and then you have the remaining mid-sized European nations (Slovenia is 11th).
  21. If it were up to World Athletics they would rather have athletes qualify through the rankings only. Not fair either.
  22. So there will be more men than women competing in 2024? Sound the alarms!!!
  23. The 50% rule is more of a suggestion. The hope is that the standards are so difficult that only around 50% of the quotas will be filled and the rest will be filled by the rankings. It's similar to the "Road to Budapest"
