  1. Yeah, I imagine New Zealand's strategy was to draw one of Canada/Netherlands then win against Cameroon to advance to the next round (possibly in second place)
  2. The universal qualifier was mostly done in 3x3 to avoid continental representation. Sadly, clubs have too much power for there to be a two stage qualifier in football. Though I guess for women they could have had a tournament during the same time as the SheBelieves/Algarve/Cyprus Cups which includes the best performing nations from their respective continental championships (minus nations already qualified).
  3. Really hoping for a team quota, but India is one of the stronger unseeded (not top 8) opponents. We'll also have two chances to win an individual quota should the team quota not work out.
  4. Great chance for her to qualify at the African qualifiers
  5. Also since the World Championships holds priority over the Asian Games the individual quotas will likely be reallocated. This will likely benefit Indonesia has both South Korea and China are likely to qualify at least a man's and woman's quota respectively. North Korea did not send any archers so it will maintain its quota from the mixed team event.
  6. He may have to move up to +80kg
  7. I know this is more due to the amount of athlete quotas in canoeing, but PASO should do a better job in guaranteeing 8 boats per event (they would need an increase of 50 athletes).
  8. Unlikely yes, but not impossible. The US isn't that much better than everyone. I'd give them a ~30% chance of failing to win either tournament
  9. Yeah, reallocations are tough and it doesn't help that the ICF doesn't produce a qualified nations list until just before the Olympics (at least that was the case at the past two games)
  10. Sadly yes... Assuming South Africa doesn't take the African quota, 9/10 of relevant teams will compete in Tokyo and I have a feeling we'll be the odd team out if the US doesn't win the World League or World Championships.
  11. Here is the canoe sprint qualification system (April 2019) You'll need a PhD to understand it, but the European Games are not a qualification event (the African Games are though)
  12. Yeah, certain injuries are more common on different surfaces in tennis. There's a reason why Federer avoided the French Open for a few years while others try to limit their play on hard courts.
  13. I've never understood the big deal for artificial turf. In tennis they play on different surfaces, you just have to change your game.
  14. It's not too bad. The bigger problem is when they change the rules because what they wrote and what they meant were two different things.
  15. That's what happens when you only have 10 athletes per event, but still want to guarantee continental representation. Combat sports should have a minimum of 16 athletes per event.
  16. Here is a list published by IWF of nations with reductions to the maximum quota and how many doping violations they have (As of May 31st). 1 Male and 1 Female - 31 - 30 - 28 - 23 2 Male and 2 Female - 19 - 16 - 16 - 16 - 15 - 13 - 13 - 12 - 12 - 11 - 10 - 10
  17. Yes, but we won't know who gets it until after the world rankings are published and the qualification tournament has concluded, but basically one man and one woman will qualify to the Olympics from the European Games with priority going to the gold medalist with the highest world ranking.
  18. Correct, the only direct qualifiers for the European Games are archery, karate, shooting and table tennis
  19. Also removed who qualified in rugby sevens over the weekend.
  20. My choice for now would be Eric Lamaze in equestrian.
  21. Heart break for Japan as Scotland beats them at the last minute. They can still make it to the quarterfinals, but New Zealand needs to crush France by more than 28 points.
  22. Yeah, XV is better if you know what's going on and like strategy, sevens is better if you don't know how the game is played.
  23. I think they've been having funding issues (they didn't participate in the pre-Olympic qualification tournament), add in that nations like Chile, Paraguay and Peru are catching up and there's a realistic chance that Colombia may not even make it to the final qualifier.
  24. Pool A: Pool B: Winner goes to the Olympics, second and third goes to final qualification tournament and the highest rank eligible nation goes to the 2019 Pan American Games (anyone that's not Argentina, Brazil or Peru).
  25. It helps that the world champs are in September-October.
