Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. I suspect there will be a lot of friendlies among the Central American teams, Canada and maybe a few Caribbean nations in a bid to claim one of the top 6 spots within the region.
  2. That's good to hear. Will it be after the Olympic or World Championships?
  3. They lost all their games at the World Championships including 8-0 in 5 innings to Italy and 10-0 in 4 innings to Great Britain. They may be one of the best in Africa, but that doesn't translate too well outside.
  4. Still not fair, all teams should have a chance to qualify directly. Have the top 3-5 advance directly to the hex while the other teams fight for the remaining spots.
  5. I'd give Great Britain or the Czech Republic an outside chance, though the odds of them beating both Italy and the Netherlands in one tournament are quite low.
  6. Perhaps, but I don't think beating Australia once, especially since it wasn't their best team will be enough (neither archer competed at the World Championships). No doubt they will use this as an argument for them to be selected, but the official New Zealand Olympic Committee twitter pretty much said that it's not guaranteed yet. Currently we have 10 nations that are eligible to compete in mixed team. Two more are guaranteed as continental representatives. New Zealand is currently in the clear, but once that number approaches 20 they are going to need some individual results to justify their quota.
  7. As much as I like the Pacific nations to win quotas, it doesn't belong to them. New Zealand may not take the quota either, they were 56/58 at the World Championships, well below their standard. This likely comes down to how many nations form a mixed team. In 2016, 24 nations had at least one male and one female archer. In that scenario we could see New Zealand declining a quota considering they will be the weakest team on paper (maybe an African nation might be weaker). Regardless, they will still have one male archer quota to fight over (likely going to Fiji)
  8. Correct, only two athletes per event (the two best times) were counted for each nation.
  9. While true, with mixed team being an event, it will be a lot easier for the archers to argue that they can finish in the top 16.
  10. She still competes in canoe sprint
  11. Usually New Caledonia and Tahiti dominate the swimming events so the other nations tend to struggle to win gold here.
  12. Yes, they take the 72 from the qualification round and add another 72 shot during the final round of competition.
  13. Slovenia will be next in line should Argentina/Guatemala win a quota at the Pan American Games (or if anyone declines their quota)
  14. Unsurprisingly Australia is in a great position to win the mixed team quota. The resulting men's individual quota will be interesting because the archer needs to finish in the top 4 and with the Australians and non-NOC nations there's a decent chance that may not happen which means the region will lose the quota.
  15. Where are you seeing the results? The website is poorly maintained.
  16. Still early, but it should be released soon
  17. Correct, temporary forgot about that. I guess we know which nations Spain will be cheering for. Regardless, El Salvador likely feels pretty good, though South American nations will be cheering for El Salvador at the Pan American Games.
  18. Central & South America must be quite happy, one of their weaker nations gets to qualify now.
  19. Does that mean it counts as three competitions despite only competing once? I wonder how the Olympic ranking will handle it.
  20. To be fair, BBC and the English media are a bit biased. Pre-tournament I would have given them an outside chance at winning the cup, but their defensive performances against Japan and Norway weren't exactly, World Cup winning performances. "The good offense is a good defense" play can only take you so far.
  21. Who said that? England, while good never showed they were the second best team in the tournament. If anything, USA vs France would have been the "true final" (besides, you know, the actual final)
  22. We're missing a bunch of our top players, but to be honest, if we lose, heads will likely roll in Rugby Canada.
  23. It doesn't help that the international federations don't care about them. Imagine if they made multi-sport games a 250 level tournament. That alone would attract everyone outside of the very best and even then, I imagine some would swing by too.
  24. True, it would be best for everyone if Guatemala (or Argentina/El Salvador) qualify here and not at the Pan American Games and thus all three nations qualify.
