Literally 1 week ago they were heroes, but after losing against and our boys already get hated on by some people, that`s just sad  I still think they achieved something great, especially considering how big this sport is. I hope they won`t care about the haters and keep being awesome

You're correct. He had to defeat  Azizli who is defending title here, also bronze medalist from this year European Championships.

I assume people here are less interested in non-Olympic weights. but

the top half is more like a joke, I think Azizli is already in the final, probably only the Kazakh wrestler can make problems for him. everybody in top half has a chance for bronze. bottom half is different, I see Kabaloev and Tsurtsumia as the favorites here, but we also have Asian Champion from UZB plus good wrestlers from TUR, JPN and ARM. I also want to give some small chances to our representative. last year World Junior champion but if he wants a medal he has to do something special.

Maryanyan is the clear favorite from the top half, but if you check the list, all other 7 wrestlers are more or less in the same level. it will be a very interesting battle for the bronze. Maryanyan's first opponent is Delkhani from Iran ! I don't think there is a chance for him. he better start thinking about the bronze. we have 3-4 favorites in the bottom half, Ota, Bilici, Kebispayev and the Chinese guy. I have a feeling Kebispayev will find his way into the final. he will have the home crowd and UWW referees on his side.

again the top half is a joke, I think Mnatsakanian will steal another world medal. this guy is the new Heiki Nabi ! this is the 3rd tournament in a row with dream draw for him. there are couple of better wrestlers in that side to surprise him. once again the Kazakhstani wrestler in the easier side. I think everybody in top half except PLW and TPE will have a chance for medal. but we have all the favorites in the bottom half. specially Mantsigov and Korpasi. before the competition I would consider our youngster Kavianinejad as a medal favorite. even a gold medal favorite, but he has an uphill task ahead of him. but I think he can at least make it to the semifinal.

this one is a bit more balanced, still the bottom half is harder. in top half I see Kus, Gobadze and the current Euro Champion Bisultanov as the favorites. but in the bottom half, the first quarter is really tough with our Abdevali, Manukyan and the Russian guy (you also can add Pascal Eisele to the list). I think whoever comes from that quarter will win the semis as well.

That what kills me about a lot of the events that have been dropped. C2 died an instantaneous death, and C2 Mixed isn’t exactly taking off. Tandem died after the 60s. It’s just a shame. I really put the blame on international federations. They fostered these athletes careers for years and killed them in seconds.

Well, our boys played like there was no tommorow, but in the end was much stronger and deservedly won. This tournament is not over yet, we will fight for 5th to 8 th place and I hope we can get something more. Anyway, this was an amazing tournament, hardly anyone expected anything from this team, but they proved their worth. They have every reasonm to be proud.

Completely disagree, team athletics are great! Two of the best events on the calendar are the European Team Champs and the NCAA finals: makes for extremely exciting viewing because every single performance counts.  Often the hero that wins the competition is the unknown hammer thrower who throws a 65m PB to get 7th rather than the predicted 12th place and not the superstar gold medallist sprinter who gets a predicted win.

Most exciting athletics event I have seen this year was the four-way battle to avoid relegation in the First Division European Team Champs.

Sometimes I forget about Akwasi Frimpong, one of my favorite athletes, but he’s been in the news quite a bit lately. Ghana Gas, Ghana’s State Gas Company, just signee him into a four year sponsorship. He helped run Nigeria’s bobsled tryouts. He helped set up , , and  new Bobsled federations (and they have or are about to join the IBSF. He also launched his own sportswear company. Talk about a busy man and great Olympian. Hopefully he really does become a medal contender for 2022.

His company recently began manufacturing skinsuits (racesuits) for those on the IBSF circuit. Here’s the one he made for a Mexican athlete @mrv86

and  have one victory after first round. Last two will play against each other so one of them will have two victories for sure. And this match may decide who will take the quota.

I'm already sick of future stories that a nation that wins gold will be an undeserved winner because USA is not here with the best team. WHO CARES? Their problem, not problem the other teams.

And I still think that USA is huge favorite for gold.

I guess that the Japanese team is good  enough not to need the shameful gifts they received between yesterday and today...

what happened yesterday to Manuel Lombardo against Abe and earlier today to Julia Kowalczyk against Yoshida is really shameful, it's really unacceptable...

and those 2 are just the worst examples, but I've seen many, many dubious calls, despite having the chance and the help of the video replay of all the action...

That's true but also NOC can't participate in qualifications in event he has qualification already (exept WCh). For example if Japan will get reallocated place to fill C2 (I don't know if they will but let's assume they will) then they have qualification both C1 and C2 so they can't participate in further qualifications and it doesn't matter that we don't know who fought this quota. To be fair I'm not sute if this rule refer to host quota also, so I'm not saying that I'm 100% right
