  1. Technically Roberts hasn't qualified as an individual yet - the quotas from '22 and '23 WC are awarded to the nation rather than the individual so at the moment the quota list would be 2x , 1x , , But I take your point that the quotas from the WCs will end up being reallocated after the OQS next year.
  2. heading for their best performance at a track world champs since 2016 - which coincidentally, were held in London - showing the power of a home crowd.
  3. The whole thing is an absolute clusterf**k but as I understand it, the last paragraph only comes into play when all the continents have a representative. 2022 results will be used to give South America a quota and 2023 will be used to give Africa a quota.
  4. Because the qualification system is a mess According to the qualification document: "The highest ranked NOC from a continent which has not yet qualified any quota places through the Olympic Qualifier Series will qualify a maximum of one quota place" So if it is separate quotas for South America is required, it would be allocated from 2022 results.
  5. Not sure whether there are separate quotas for North and South America or whether they go for Pan-American approach. Have a feeling it may be the former in which case, Jose Torres Gil would be in line to take USA's 2022 WC quota which is a bit unfortunate for USA given they'll probably lose their 2023 WC quota to South Africa - and a rider who had a highest score of 33.
  6. I think the problem with that is there was no representative from Africa in the 2022 competition so the reallocation drops down to the next event in the hierarchy which is the 2023 WC.
  7. the qualification document would suggest that this would be the case. The quotas awarded next year through the OQS will be to the top 6 athletes and are specific to those athletes. The quotas available from the world champs )both this year's and last) are awarded to the NOC. So if Rimu Nakamura finishes in the top 6 next year, he would get a quota and Japan would be able to name second rider based on their 2022 world champs quota. Likewise, if Reilly finishes in the top 6, GBR will be able to do the same.
  8. Maybe - but maybe not. Would say they have provisional quotas - these results have lowest priority for quota and will instead be used to deliver continental representation but we wont know until after the completion of OQS. If I had to guess, would think that the American may lose out.
  9. Yes I'm sure - the only rider who used the new bike was Charlie Tanfield in the men's pursuit (and we all know how that ended). Everyone else is on the old bike. As far as I am aware, no nation is solely using their new kit - everyone is doing the bare minimum to register it and allow it to be used in Paris
  10. It's the same bike as she rode at the Europeans Would also point out that she was silver medalist at European Junior level in 2019 and won bronze at the Junior worlds in the same year. Not sure how that doesn't register as "remotely impressive"
  11. Yeongdo World Cup Men 1.) Takumi Hojo 2.) Max Stapley 3.) Valentin Wernz This is Stapley's best result and sees him break the top 100 in the Olympic ranking. Women 1.) Annika Koch 2.) Romana Gajdosova 3.) Erica Hawley
  12. Sea-level WR for Emma Finucane in flying lap qualification for women's sprint
  13. The Omnium has been part of the world schedule since about 2009/2010 - probably in preparation for its introduction to the Olympics in 2012. At Olympic level, the Omnium came in to replace both the individual pursuit and the points race in 2012 and balances the schedule between sprint and endurance events. The current format of the omnium is a bit samey - the introduction of the tempo race in place of the individual pursuit was a mistake in my opinion - but as with many of the sports we've seen so far this summer, there is a major problem with how the scoring is presented, particularly in the points race.
  14. Yeah - the scoring of this race seems to be a mess. They seem to be awarding lap gains left, right and centre. In the last 5 runnings of this event, there were no more than 2 laps gained and yet here, they are saying some riders have gained 6 laps.
  15. Afraid so - they needed to balance out the men and women's quotas so the number of men's places drop from 130 to 90 whilst the women will increase from 67 to 90. Additionally, only 5 teams rather than 6 will have the maximum number of riders.
  16. Not 100% sure by any stretch - as I said, I've not had time to run the numbers for the rest of the qualifying window - but France currently have a 3000 point advantage over both Italy and Netherlands and that's not going to be easy to overcome. Van Der Poel winning today will pull in 900 points for Netherlands but their riders are defending a fair chunk of points in the last quarter of the qualifying window.
  17. Looking at the UCI calendar, I think the main multi-stage events to take place within the qualifying period are: UCI World Tour 23 Aug: Renewi Tour (Formerly known as Tour of Benelux) 26 Aug: Vuelta Espana 12 Oct: Tour of Guangxi ProSeries 15 Aug: Tour of Denmark 15 Aug: Vuelta a Burgos 17 Aug: Arctic Race of Norway 23 Aug: Deutschland Tour 3 Sep: Tour of Britain 14 Sep: Tour of Taihu Lake 20 Sep: Tour of Luxembourg 20 Sep: Tour de Langkawi 5 Oct: Tour of Hainan
  18. I haven't run the full projection for Q3 yet, but at the moment, I think Belgium and Denmark are pretty much guaranteed a full team of 4. France and Great Britain should also be OK for full team. The last full team probably going to come down to a fight between Spain and Slovenia.
  19. Personally I go with the UCI version purely because it is the easiest one to work with and is ultimately going to be the source used to allocate quotas and there aren't that many big events left over the next 8-10 weeks or so that are going to have big impact on the ranking.
  20. The Procycling ranking is based only on performances within the qualifying period whereas the UCI ranking is based on 12 month rolling period of a nation's top 8 riders. In theory they should come together and show the same ranking by the time the qualifying period ends in October.
  21. Women's Team Pursuit Olympic Ranking Barring any major disasters/surprises next year, I think the 10 Olympic quotas are pretty much set - not impossible for Poland or China to sneak in ahead of Japan, but it is going to be difficult for them to overcome a 500 point deficit.
  22. Could be wrong, but have a feeling that in today's women's pursuit finals we saw a change in tactic from . Katy Archibald is undoubtedly the strongest cyclist in the squad, but in previous competitions she's gone out so hard in the latter parts of the races that the rest of the squad have struggled to keep up and they end finishing quite fragmented. In today's final, she put a pig push in in the middle of the ride to get GB ahead of the kiwis and then she was the rider to drop out and it ended up with a more solid ride for the squad as a whole. Can't recall any other instances where she has been the rider to drop out.
