  1. So by that argument, I assume that you believe that the likes of Femke Bol, Karsten Warholm, Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Nafissatou Thiam must be doping - or is it just athletes/countries that you don't like that you believe are doping?
  2. GB's improved performance could also be down to the fact that after their shambolic performance in Atlanta, UK Sport got wise to the fact that they need to be more professional and the Govt introduced the national lottery to help fund elite sport with millions of schmucks spending a pound a week in the hope of becoming a millionaire.
  3. Don't think that was the kiss that was the issue as it happened before she had picked up the trophy. The team were congratulated by the Queen and then moved on to Rubiales - who it has to be said, was very "affectionate" with all the squad - but Hermoso was the only one who ended up with his hands on the back of her head and pulled in for full-on lip smacker.
  4. Whilst I am more than willing to raise a glass to the success of Team GB so far, I can't help feeling that these positive results are going to be used to paper over the cracks in the management of athletics in UK right now. Putting aside the obvious issues with the selection policies that are in place, we've now got athletes alleging they were blackmailed by our national federation if they weren't willing to be part of a relay squad. The picture of UK athletics over the course of the summer is one of incompetence and indifference to athletes and yet there is a good chance that will all be drowned out by KJT's gold medal. The powers that be within UK athletics have robbed multiple athletes of the opportunity to attend a global championship and ley down an Olympic qualifying time/distance because of some misguided belief that if you're not top 8 in the world, you don't count for anything.

  7. Given how poorly both Rutter and Llewellin performed in the individual event, I am surprised that they are in the hunt for a medal.
  8. Triathlon Mixed Relay 1.) 2.) 3.) Germany taking the win by 1 second ahead of Team GB to deny the clean sweep of Olympic events. Perhaps surprisingly, home favourites - who put out one of their strongest squads - could only finish 4th Evidently the water quality issues continued so there was no swim leg.

  10. Yeah - I got called away in the midst of updating the 2nd bronze winners
  11. That's got to count as a bit of a shocker for Germany
  12. Beckett was always at risk after he picked up the BFD in race 5 - you can afford to have 1 bad race but not too. On the upside for him, he was the most consistent sailor across the course of the regatta so will be right in the medal hunt next year - assuming he gets the nod over Eliott Hanson - but on the downside, this is the second regatta where he has led (and led well) in the early stages only to lose out to Wearn after the same thing happened at the Paris test event.

  14. Looks like water quality in the Seine has taken a turn for the worse and the organisers decided to switch the para-triathlon test event to a duathlon. Will be interesting to see if the mixed relay goes ahead as scheduled tomorrow.
  15. Interesting run down of each federation's approach to qualification: Paris 2024 qualification criteria for each National Federation • World Triathlon
  16. It's a tough one - Brownlee is a more accomplished individual athlete but Izzard is probably more of a team player in so much as he would be willing to play the part of domestique in the event that Yee has a poor swim leg. It will be interesting to see which squad is used in the test relay event on Sunday. Ultimately I think Brownlee's body has let him down this year and he has been nursing a series of niggles and injuries that have limited his participation and impacted his results. He decided to pass on the Sunderland WTCS in favour of focusing on the Paris test event and that just hasn't paid off for him. He genuinely believed he could finish top 3 and secure nomination for GB squad whereas Izzard has looked to bank as many points as possible - a tactic that seems to be paying off. Both Brownlee and Izzard have the solution to the problem in their own hands - chase the points necessary to get themselves both in to the top 30 so that GB secures a third individual quota place - each is sitting on 4 events during the second period with Izzard banking over 1000 points whilst Brownlee is on around 750. Izzard is down to do a World Cup level event before the WTCS final but don't see anything on the Brownlee schedule as yet.
  17. A golden double for after Alex Yee wins the test event Barclay Izzard seems to have found some decent form and finished in 17th place - it could have/should have been higher but he had to serve a 15 second penalty because of a swimming infraction but Jonathan Brownlee could only manage a disappointing 51st (out of 55 starters). It's looking increasingly likely that Brownlee is going to miss out on his 4th Olympic games after his poor run of results continued. He's dropped another 5 places in the latest rankings to now sit in 37th whereas Izzard has steadily been climbing the rankings over the last few weeks. He now sits at 43rd.
  18. Men's Triathlon Test Event 1.) Alex Yee 2.) Vasco Vilaca 3.) Dorian Coninx
  19. As a I can tell you that this is not going to happen - not this year, not next year and not ever
  20. I believe that selectors met this week to pick the men's squad for next month's event and assuming that they are running to schedule, the squad should be announced over the weekend after the appeal window closes later today. At the designated selection event held last weekend, neither Joe Fraser or Giarnni Regini-Moran took part - I think both are coming back from injury/illness. This left the path clear for Jake Jarman to be top scorer with 84.1. This included a 15 on floor and a 15.6 on vault but he still doesn't have the degree of difficulty on pommel or rings to be challenging the top performers. James Hall was the second highest scorer on 83.45 including 0.6 in penalties. His highlights were a 14.7 on p-bars and 14.0 on floor. Max Whitlock has staked his claim to get back on the team with a 15 on pommel along with a 13.9 on parallel bars and 12.9 on high bar whilst Courtney Tulloch is the other specialist who could make the team having scored 14.35 on rings and 15.1 on vault. Assuming everyone is fit and healthy, squad seems likely to be: Joe Fraser Jake Jarman Courtney Tulloch Max Whitlock Giarnni Regini-Moran Although that would be harsh on James Hall, it would maximise GB's prospects for making individual finals and by extension, their medal opportunities.
  21. It can't be any worse than the water they swam in at Sunderland WTCS
  22. Paris Test Event 1.) Beth Potter 2.) Cassandre Beaugrand 3.) Laura Lindemann Beth Potter now needs a podium finish at the WTCS Championship Final at Pontevedra to confirm her place on Team GB Beaugrand also met the first criteria for selection to French team - I think she now needs a top 6 at Olympic distance WTCS event next year to confirm her spot on the team. Laura Lindemann and Nina Eim should both be selected for German team given they both achieved top 8 finish.
  23. Can't get my head around some of the latest ranking points totals from UCI. Was there an issue with the Chinese men's team pursuit at the world champs? I thought they had finished 10th so would get 1350 points but UCI don't seem to have included in their total. In the latest ranking, UCI have China dropping 3 places to 14th and still have GBR in an Olympic qualifying position but I think China should be in 10th with GB in 11th.
  24. I think the single handed dinghy events - ILCA6 & ILCA 7 - are essentially entry level boats which allows smaller nations to take part. In that regard they are similar to the single sculls event in rowing.
