  4. Okay, time for another long stats post. Despite the great work that they've done, SwimSwam has often a few controversial rankings every year. Most of that can be attributed to American bias and a bigger emphasis on short course racing (especially in NCAA) than other people. I decided to attempt to build my own rankings model for women that factors in their versatility and how fast they were compared to the rest of their competition. There are a couple of flaws though. The first is that it doesn't factor in 2024 potential and two, it's based on FINA points which themselves are based on world records. As a result, certain events in which someone smashes the world record (50m butterfly) for example, shatters the points system. I'll be sure to make improvements next year if I do this again. Below, you'll find a breakdown of SwimSwams rankings in sections of 10 swimmers each. I've listed my rankings of each swimmer in brackets. #100-99: #90-81 #80-71 #70-61

  5. With the lineup for the Olympic tournament complete this is the head-to-head results for the participants since the start of 2023. It's difficult to see beyond taking the gold but likely to be close battle between and for the minor medals.

  6. I'm sure many Slovak fans were not happy at all with arch-rival Shiffrin winning in front of their eyes, while Petra is in the hospital. But big applause for the great attendance and atmosphere in spite of what happened yesterday. They could definitely find a more regular spot on the calendar.

  7. FIS women´s section director expressed great enthusiasm and great satisfaction with this weekend and claim the World Cup will certainly return to Jasná soon and envisage to make Slovakia as regular venue of the World Cup. "We are extremely satisfied. Everything here was good, from the preparation of the track, which is excellent, we have excellent conditions, we have equally good conditions on the competition and training hill. Very good indeed. But I also want to mention the overall organization or logistics. The audience here is fantastic both days. Overall, a really positive assessment." and yep the atmosphere is amazing even despite the national hero being in the hospital. People still came and cheer to every skier. It is a weird country with weird people but it is also a great country with great people as we saw already in this morning Slalom 1st run

Ski Cross WC Nakiska | Nakiska, Alberta, Canada Men Gold- Jonas Lenherr Silver- Florian Wilmsmann Bronze- Youri Duplessis Kergomard Women Gold- Hannah Schmidt Silver- Marielle Berger Sabbatel Bronze- Brittany Phelan A gold and a bronze doesn’t sound like a bad performance, but from a Canadian perspective, at a home WC it definitely is. Only one (!!) Canadian male advanced to the big/small finals (Carson Cook finished in 8th), and all of our heavy hitters bowed out in the quarterfinals. On the women’s side, business as always, although with Naeslund not competing there’s a bit of an asterix in my mind. Also felt the need to mention that there were only 14 entries, slightly lower than other WCs. Full Results

  17. We are the only asian country to qualify in Men’s Hockey. Really surprising stat. Europe has 7/ 12 qualified teams. Taking 5/6 quotas from the last qualifiers in Oman & Spain. Safe to say, while Europe has excelled in field hockey Asia has gone backwards. Congratulations to & for the final quota places .

  18. A round every 2 seasons is perfectly possible (same with Bansko btw ). If Croatia can manage to get rounds every damn season, for many years after the Kostelic siblings were out of the picture, then Slovakia should definitely get more chances, than the "fill the calendar spot every 4 years, when there is no big Championship" routine. Especially when Vlhova is one if the biggest names on the women's tour.

  27. Yeah I know his story. he is not a Canadian citizen yet and therefore is not eligible to participate in the Olympics anyway. UWW is less strict in its own competitions. which means he can participate in any other tournament. he is a former World Junior Champion and he was surely good enough to qualify for the Olympics from Pan-America.

  30. 1) I don´t think really so. Mikaela is quite popular in Slovakia as well. that let´s call it "artificial animosity" or so-called hatred between them was rather created by journalists during the era of Livio Magoni. However, both claimed many times that this is not true at all and they resspect each other and we see them regularly talking each other with smiles. Women´s Alpine skiing has, for understandable reasons, now a lot (and I mean A lot!) of media coverage in our country, comparable perhaps only to hockey, dozens of articles are published daily in all known and unknown newspapers. Shiffrin makes up a large part of these articles. Yep, Rather in the opposite, Slovaks like Mikaela and she is very well-respected here. Slovaks see her as Petra´s main rival in Slalom, but it´s certainly not that they don´t wish her to win Slaloms or not support her during the races or so. Absolutely not I assure you. 2) It would definitely be great if we could host more often and if Petra gets perhaps another chance to try again in front of her countrymen. The venue is here, the fans are here as well... But, you know it´s also a matter of money.... Slovakia is not a rich country, and despite our obsession of huge spending on tourism advertising, we are sadly still not "enoughly attractive" for large western markets

  32. haha, no. Just a weird heart connection since my childhood. Always was interested by this country since I remember, maybe from 5th grade at elementary school. I always had plenty of their flags and other stuff in my room, was always reading and searching about Ecuador. Yep, hard to explain, just kind of my favorite-dream country since childhood. Like I was always cheering for them since ever. Funny enough, I actually never met any Ecuatorian person in my life

In a normal world yes you are right. but with current IOC no Raheleh Asemani qualified for the refugee team in Taekwondo back in 2016 (she even beat the Belgian athlete in her route to the quota) but got her Belgian passport in time. they probably managed to bribe the right person and here we go, she went to Rio and even almost won a medal for Belgium. it's just about meeting the right IOC person with the right amount of money.

  47. I'm keeping this list with the names of all athletes with quota. Not sure yet how I will do as some countries are already deciding their quotas (as Japan in marathon). Probably keep in other page, or in bold, or a different color. https://olimpiadatododia.com.br/paris-2024/523477-lista-de-atletas-com-indice-olimpico-no-atletismo-para-paris-2024/ (and this list is not updated since end of 23).
