Well, for someone that has almost 10,000 posts in about a year and a half (I joined in August 2022, and started posting regularly in 2023, that many posts might be a Totallympics record of some sorts?), I’d sure hope so :p:rofl:

Easiest question I’ll ever answer in my life, hell yeah (somewhat unfortunately for all of you) :cheer:

Totallympics has been such a great space to discuss sporting events with other fellow enthusiasts, get support after family emergencies (after my dad got taken to the hospital in an ambulance in early May, I shared something about it in the “General Thread”, and I was shocked by the overwhelming amount of replies and messages I got by various users on the forum, wishing for him to have a speedy recovery, to get well soon, and if I needed anything they were here for me, which was really really nice), and the friends that I’ve made here, well I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I will of course continue to be active on this forum after the Olympics. Many of you probably experience the same as me today, that feeling of depression that the Olympics are over. This year that feeling is more a little more sombre due to the fact I am reminiscing about my Olympic vacation and also I start a brand new job tomorrow after a 4 week break from my old job so it's like all good things are ending today :(

The best cure for post Olympics fan depression and/or “what now?” - The Paralympics :d

I know a lot of users pass over them, but I have a lot of fun watching them too.

Pretty poor Olympics for India. So much talent but faltering in Olympics, wasn't ready for this disaster at all.

Things would still be fine, but Vinesh pulling of one of the biggest upsets of the Olympics beating Yui Susaki her first ever international defeat, only to be DSQ with no medal next day for being over weight by 100g has to be the single most terrible moment in sports in my entire entire life. I'd feel bad for any athlete facing bad but for Vinesh I was absolutely hurt.

She wasn't a normal athlete, an absolute role model and fighter who was criticised, beaten up on streets by police tortured, harassed on social media for raising voice against sexual harrasment in the wrestling federation. I couldn't concentrate on my work or get proper sleep for 2 days. Almost the whole nation cried( except ofc the certain group of people who started making fun of her) and all news channels ran different stories, some supporting her and some against her(ofc sponsored). At that point I was done with the games.

So for this question, I may come here for multi sport games, watch a few winter sports. But all other sports I'm not quite bothered, I probably won't even care what we do in next Qualification cycle either. I might revisit this decision in future but for now I need a break from sports.

Totallympics is fantastic as always, but sports can sometimes be very cruel for sports fans investing their time in entire Olympic cycle while getting no significant return. Hope I get enough optimism to change my decision in future.

I will definitely be a complete addict during things like World Athletics, European Games, Commonwealth Games, World Games, and then completely ignore it otherwise

2026 100%. LA? Probably not. I will observe how it all goes in Poland. If as its now (i assume so) for the first time white flag from me. I will be 51, not sleeping over 2 weeks to see some 6 medals and 106 tragedies...nope. We will see. In LA US, Canada, China and probably Russia will be at full power. 2 medals in climbing again? Without it and with RUS+BLR here we already could count only for some 5-6 medals.

I wondered to myself today, whether by 2028 the global temperature would have rose enough for a boycott

Oh...i think it can be a hmmm....dynamic period to say the least. And i don't have climate issues on my mind in pole position. For the first time in my life i'm unable to imagine 2028. AI too.

I fell in love with sports.....since i first seen it

    • To be fair, that goes for lots of sports. Looking at the Paris Olympics, are there really more than a small handful of countries where the general public - outside of the Olympics - tunes in to rhythmic gymnastics, artistic swimming, dressage, shooting, modern pentathlon, rowing, canoeing, weightlifting, judo, wrestling, taekwondo, track cycling, diving and so on?   Not saying those other sports have a large and broad international appeal, because I doubt they do, but that goes for lots of currently Olympic sports in terms of how much the general public has any interest in it whatsoever
    • GB doing bits in the transfer market, hope we make a trade for summer mcintosh next
    • Yes it bothers me, because it violates the fundamental principals of what is classified as a Winter sport and thus eligible to be included in a Winter Olympics. The same way "snow and ice" is ludicrous for you...   If they wanted to include cc running at the Summer Games, where it belongs, then there would be no discussion. Because we all know, that Coe, IAAF just want another piece of the pie and a place at the table at the WOG for their own personal benefits. It makes no difference if your event is being held in December, January or February, when you can have it without an ounce on snow and in the bright sunny day with 25+ degrees. That is not a winter event.    And yes, i too detest ice hockey, curling being played in late May, June, August, even September. Real winter sports season should be from October to early-mid May.
    • Lacrosse already had more than 40 nations competing at the last World Championship if you include the qualification round. Although taking a look at the results the difference between US/Canada and the other teams was huge.
    • Agree on the basis of this.    But let's take a look at the recently added sports.   For how many of them you could absolutely say they have gained interest and are trending positively. I can for only rugby and climbing. Of course rugby has been popular for decades, they only needed to figure out the perfect format for the OG. Sport climbing on the other hand is the only new sport, which has seen a rapid expansion in the past 10 years. No one was taking it seriously as a real sport a decade ago, but now it has grown in different parts of the World, the fan and media interesting is rising. And it gets more popular and popular.    I wouldn't say the same for skateboarding and surfing. I think their popularity isn't at all that high compared to the 90s and early 2000s. In that period they were much more popular in the American / Canadian zeitgeist from what i recall.    Many of the other sports are just host fodder and/or are basically a 3-5 country sports. Flag football, cricket, lacrosse, baseball, breaking have limited appeal. What is the justifiable reason for adding them, beside the host jerking for throwing a ton of money for organizing the Games.    And here lies the IOC's flow. Instead of firstly help growing and popularizing these sports before adding them, they first bring them on the OG in the hope that will automatically make these sports more trendy. It doesn't...   If you want to include lacrosse, then the IOC should work with the Governing body and all the National Associations in making a campaign to familiarize it around the World. Say you are including lacrosse, but in 3 Games time, so there is time to make an International footprint. After 8 years if you can make a Lacrosse World Championship with 24-32 teams, then including it at the OG makes it a much, much bigger factor.    Now they beat their drum "We are including new sports, look how modern and urban we are", when the truth is they are a joke event with 6 teams, which gives absolutely nothing for growing said sport and is just another statistic.
    • A lot of young people start rowing while at university so they do provide many of the rowers we see on the international stage. However, there are lots of rowing clubs that are happy to take in members of all ages and backgrounds and most if not all make their equipment available to them. They don't expect you provide your own boat although I'm sure you can if you want. My local club are content whether you want to be a recreational or competitive rower, whether you're a junior or a veteran.    Most of the costs are associated with international rowing teams but that applies across many of the Olympic sports. You mention the issue of venues but presumably this also applies to sprint Canoeing which invariably use the same courses.
    • And ice hockey could be part of the Summer Olympics, considering that seems to never end during the year
    • One of those 20 countries here: we'd love the theoretically free cyclo-cross medals, as long as an NOC can send 6-7 athletes per team, so we can send the entire world's top-6     That's us for the women, Belgium says the same for the men I think. Massively in favour!   Also, korfball please.
    • Sure, but she has been riding for Canyon/SRAM for years now, it's quite common in cycling to not be based in one's home country
    • A quick search suggests that the price may indeed not be that high (unless at some point you need your own boat of course), but it does also seem like it's mostly student teams or things in some way related to an educational institution, which is a bit of an odd barrier to have to go through.   There might be things I'm missing though which would make it easier for someone who isn't a student to just join and start.
