Hi @Gianlu33, @Griff88, @JoshMartini007, @mpjmcevoy, @vinipereira, @Vic Liu, @Cinnamon Bun, @hckošice, @rybak, @Josh, @avlar, @heywoodu, @Epic Failure, @phelps, @ChandlerMne @Grassmarket, @De_Gambassi, @Olympian1010, @konig, @Monzanator , @dodge, @PHI2019, @Fer GUA Attached is points table based on Top 8 performance in each event where 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7 pts, 3rd gets 5, 4th gets 2.5, 5th gets 2,6th gets 1.5, 7th gets 1 and 8th gets 0.5 pts. To measure nations' performance few terms have been introduced

'Quota' is number of participants per country in each event. Qualified but non-participation is not included in Quota.

'Top 8' is the number of events a country finished in Top 8.

Conversion = Top 8 / Quota which implies Contingent quality.

'Normalized Points' = Points / (Number of events in that sport). For example, if a country wins just 1 Gold in Archery, they will get 10 points but 10 points/ 5 events = 2 Normalized Points. This metric will be high for countries who earn points in multiple sports.

Aquatics events  has been divided into sports like 'Artistic Swimming', 'Swimming', 'Water Polo' and 'Diving' otherwise 'Sport' can be defined as set of events governed by same federation

Salient Observations

1) The nations' rank for points is closely related to rank of total medals won
2) :USA is ahead of :CHN in points table by a fair distance but very close in Normalized Points as :CHN dominates multiple sports like Diving, Table Tennis, Badminton

3) Countries like :KEN , :ETH , :BEL , :JAM are ranked high in points table but low in Normalized Points as they won medals in very few sports

4) Despite winning no medals, countries like :NGR , :FIN , :EST have earned decent points

I'll take your points table over the medals table we have now everyday !

I think there is value in a 'normalized points' table that would weight each event slightly different. But in your case, that's might be a bit too much and it's killing it IMO. Probably, there is a mathematical formula that would work better :mumble:

The intention of introducing the term to check which nations do well in multiple sports and not just in 1-2 sports. Or sometimes the medal table gets skewed if in a sport extra events are added/deleted or there restrictions in participation itself which may not favour the dominating country (Eg Participation in Weightlifting restricted to 3 in each gender).

So would like to know your ideas, how would you calculate 'Normalized Points'. How is winning 100m Freestyle different from winning Handball event

I didn’t have time to review yet but Ireland had way more than 88 quotas if I am assuming you mean quotas = athletes?

No quotas basically means maximum number of placings possible in an event. So for example, Ireland participated in Men's Hockey there were 16 athletes but just 1 quota as the team can have just 1 placing

    • Heraskevyvh is very good in this season. He did worse last season. Our team is unfortunately doing much worse now.    In luge, unfortunately, it`s difficult to break the dominance of Germany, Austria and Latvia. The USA has also made a lot of progress. I have also read that Russia may return under a neutral banner, so I don`t think we will win a medal in Cortina 2026. The only hope is that we will use our knowledge of the new track in Cortina and then maybe we will win a one medal, maybe in the women's doubles. Unfortunately, we don`t have a star like Armin Zoeggeler as before.

    • I still remember how Demi Moore swept the Razzies for Striptease almost 30 years ago and she won Golden Globes now? The acting industry must be short on talent, scripts or everything else   This being said I don't really watch too many new TV shows these days least of all those Marvel/DC action hero stuff that has taken over in the last decade plus. I know it's a box office gold mine but completely not my taste.
    • Yeah, Anora has been really hard for me to place in my personal rankings. It's a fun and enjoyable film for the most part, but it didn't quite generate the same awe or excitement from me that a few others have this season. Still, I was quite shocked to see Madison lose yesterday because she did a deliver a phenomenal performance in my opinion.    The best actress "race" still feels rather open to me, which adds a bit of suspense to each body's nominations.
    • Anyone remember that  athlete in a European Champs who was given a false start, then protested and got a re-run?  And then false-started twice.   Was kind of like that.
    • Justin Trudeau has resigned as party leader and will resign as prime minister of Canada once the Liberal Party choses a new leader. Once a new leader in selected there will likely be elections shortly after.
    • I'm not surprised. Colturi seems to be trending in the right direction (duh) and the rest of the Italian women's team is nowhere except veterans Brignone and Goggia. The Delagos have regressed badly for whatever reason and even Bassino has kinda stalled despite still being in her prime. The shit will soon hit the fan but it's probably to late before the next OG. It would be ridiculous if Albania wins more medals in alpine skiing than Italy
    • The regular season is over. Tennesse Titans get #1 overall pick for the 2025 draft after NE Patriots beat the Buffalo Bills back-ups on the last day.   Mike Evans (Buccaneers) ended his 11th season with 11th mark of 1,000 receiving yards which ties Jerry Rice's all-time record. Bucs needed to run one more play to get him 5 yards he needed instead of kneeling down a game they had won already.   Wild Card Schedule:   My picks: Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Eagles, Commanders, Vikings
