Are the world indoors in threat of being axed with such tiny teams?

They’re not abnormally small for most nations. Maybe GB is (particularly as it’s a home event) and the US is but for everyone else it’s pretty much the norm. The fields will likely be the same size

Ireland teams

2013 - 3

2014 - 5

2016 - 1

2018 - 5

2022 - 16 (2 relay teams)

Well, it's pretty surprising that some countries send small teams. I mean, in some events, you can get some nice points to the Olympic ranking. In relays, you may not necessarily aim for the medal, but could be a good "competition training" before world relays ...... Additionally, if a country screws up World relays, they have to count on being TOP in the matter of time. And world indoor champs for some might be a great opportunity to even attack a national record or to have a "back up time" in case they screwed up in Bahamas 😄😄

well, indoor 4*400m relays are so slow (and the risk of injury in running indoor track events in general is higher compared to regular outdoor meets) that's actually useless to send teams for any purpose that's not the hunt for a medal

individual events might be a bit different, as good points in the WR are always up for grabs and it might worth the effort (and the risk)

Well agree to disagree. I don't really see it that way. I know that the track is pretty small and sometimes collision amongst the runners especially during the baton exchange might lead a bad fall with an ugly injury, but the performances are actually quite good. Let's see what the teams in Glasgow perform.
