Seguidilla

Seguidilla is a type of folk dance that originated in the La Mancha region, in the center of Spain. It is a lively and energetic dance that is typically performed by a solo dancer or by a group of dancers. The seguidilla is usually performed to the accompaniment of a guitar, and the dance itself is characterized by its quick, staccato footwork and sharp, precise movements.

The dance is performed in a variety of styles, depending on the region and cultural context.

This is cool! Are you gonna do this for each region?

im passing only through euskadi and castilla y leon this time but in June I’m thinking of doing a “vuelta” via all 15 Spanish regions so those traditional songs would give a nice soundtrack for the trip :-)

The next one in 2 days will be from Euskadi :). In previous posts I have covered sevillana from Andalucía, jota from Aragón, chotis from Madrid, sardana from Catalonia, seguidilla from Castilla-La Mancha and muñeira from Galicia, which makes 7 out of 17 regions. After that I will probably move to the team presentations and since these will be based in 9 cities, I will also cover some more details there.

I guess I missed those, need to check out, specially the Galician, it’s one of my favorite regions (next to catalunya and extremadura) and I love their language, people when speaking Galician always sound super nice :-)

from which region are you btw?

I'm half Catalan and half Andalusian. When growing up I lived in both regions, but I moved to Madrid for college and have been living here for a while.

Nice! I have family from Granollers (in Catalunya) and spent basically all summers from my childhood and teen years there (thus my preference for that region :-) ), I have so many good memories from the city festivals! (Festa major)
