I hope they pay the workers to deconstruct the stadiums after the Cup, since it's clear they won't be using them after that. Tsss, who am i kidding, they are not paying them even now. :p

Think we can see a few debuts in this cup. Especially if, as rumored, there will be a expansion to 48 teams.

Some teams I can think of now, other than the hosts themselves :QAT

South America: :VEN (they have a really nice young talented team now).

Africa: :GUI :UGA :MLI :BUR seem like the closest. Africa is usually unpredictable so who knows.

Asia: :UZB :SYR :JOR and maybe :OMA if they are asked to share hosting with Qatar as rumored.

I don't see chances for a debut in Concacaf, OFC or UEFA (:MNE seems like the closest but don't think they can do it).

Africa if 32 teams

maybe mali, guinea or Burkina faso , but impossible for uganda

48 teams 9 places

as favourites

:ALG:CMR:GHA:TUN:NGR:EGY:MAR:SEN:CIV

then

:BUR:RSA:MLI:GUI:COD

For AFRICA , EUROPE and CONCACAF  additional qualified team will have a good/same levels

but in ASIA we have a gap between Iran, Saudi arabia , korea , Japan plus Qatar and other teams

same thing between  USA,Mexico ,Costa rica and other north American teams

Those are a bunch of really nice white elephants.

Well, could at least make it somewhat better and attempt to host the Asian Games or something.

having lots of big football stadiums don't help much to host the Asian Games !

Qatar had other problems hosting multi spot events , I remember during the 2006 Asian Games, they didn't have enough hotels (or whatever) for the athletes. they asked the countries to not bring their whole delegation from the start. bring them in pieces and send some home before bringing the rest.

and you don't need such big stadiums to host the Asian Cup. they will be empty after all.

:KSA

Helped by the global football authority Fifa, the Saudis want to muscle into the hosting of 2022 and stage some matches. At the very least, they intend to force Qatar to share its party with other Gulf states.

    • They're very likely going to give Leerdam a 1000m spot no matter if she qualifies in another distance or not. A skater who is picked like that would, in the 'matrix', be placed in the first spot for that distance, which would push Schulting to the spot for 3rd place in the 1000m. That's the 15th and last spot on the matrix, and would mean she is out if there are more than 8 different skaters above that position.
    • Could they give Leerdam a place in the 1000 at Milan if she qualifies through the 500? And surely Vekerk would be the one to lose out rather than Schulting?
    • Makes it extra tragic that she's still quite likely to not actually make it due to Leerdam most likely making it anyway despite falling...seems like everyone there just automatically assumed her 2nd place will be enough and started celebrating
    • Stage 14 in Semmering (AUT)   Women´s Giant Slalom:   1. Julia Scheib    1:56.46 2. Camille Rast    1:56.60 3. Sara Hector   1:56.86   Full Final Results HERE
    • Stage 13 in Livigno (ITA)   Men´s Super-G:   1. Marco Schwarz    1:10.33 2. Alexis Monney   1:10.53 3. Franjo Von Allmen   1:10.58   Full Final Results HERE
    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
