All DSQ were for women. The men are safe :p

Kinda best podium of the entire games. This sport really doesn't offer much medal changes outside of the big nations.

I hope :RUS and :CAN enjoy their five minutes in the sun :)

Actually Russia with the new complexes in Nizhny-Tagil, Chaikovski and Sochi (if they still use those lol) are showing a good improvement. Their results here, if generally unexpected are not that big of a shock. The men are doing points in the regular WC more often this season. I could see them garnering a middle of the pack position ala Slovenia or Japan in a few years.

I am so happy but it is a funny feeling, our athletes almost never dominated like today.

If there were no dsq, it should have been:

Gold :SLO

Silver :ORK

Bronze :JPN

Ofcourse not knowing how :GER would have jumped in 2nd round.

But still, congrats to :RUS (I dont care, this is the flag 😜) and :CAN.

Big Thunder still exits? Like it would cost too much money to blow it up? :p

There have been attempts to revive it over the years and nothing ever comes out of it. As recently as 2020: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/thunder-bay-steve-collins-ski-jumping-1.5801567

This has been a really crazy competition. I was watching short track and aki jumping at the same time and in both I could not believe my eyes.... Cgrts to :ROC and :CAN ... The Olympic stories are often strong and unvelievable. Big upsets but yet I feel there might be a little scandal behind all the DSQ .... Some ppl may start digging ..... But hopefully not let's all believe that DSQ were all true and fair...... What I can just regret is if the :CZE, especially male, was on a level where they were couple years ago, it could be them winning this medal 😀😀..... Anyways, this story is huge

Ski Jumping Canada is based in Calgary, but its national team operates out of Slovenia, a hotspot for the sport. Loutitt lives in Bled, while Strate, Soukup, Boyd-Clowes, Eilers and Nicole Maurer are in Kranj, about 30 minutes away. They all train together in Planica and compete all over Europe and Asia.

Feels like we won two medals today.

Honestly this would have been an amazing result for Canada even without the disqualifications. Beating Czechia and Poland was really impressive for a tiny, underfunded program.

    • awful... the track is as fast (slow) as in Hamar Meike Veen skated the same time in the 1500m and Serena Pergher did the same in the 500m I think by February it will be even faster
    • I like the concept of this Festival of Music! I will also share a couple of Christmas songs from Spain's TISC Open 2024 representative David Bisbal.   The first one 'Los peces en el río' (The fish in the river) is a flamenco/pop cover of a traditional villancico originated in the 1500s and the second one 'Todo es posible en Navidad' (All is possible in Christmas) was relased last year.   Los peces en el río   Todo es posible en Navidad   I hope you like them and have a wonderful holiday season!
    • you don't even have idea how it works   last week he was the best of the field and now he's in bad shape?   on Friday he was 24th despite 4 (4!!!!!) missed shots and Yesterday he suddenly went out of shape?   be serious!   he either just had bad skis or he got sick, like many other athletes (see Vittozzi)   the snow in LGB is usually shit, results are always heavily influenced by that and Italy is one of the teams that usually struggle a lot in that place   nothing new and nothing to be worried about
    • Don't look now but the Bears might actually win the division in Ben Johnson's first season as HC...
    • Festival of Music   For this year’s Festival of Music I thought I would change it up a bit. Since we are approaching the festive holiday season, I want you all to post some festive songs from your country. If you don’t celebrate Christmas then perhaps some other song that has a special place in your heart during an important celebration.     I’m going to start with a Christmas song from Ireland’s TISC Annual 2023 representatives Picture This.     Picture This - This Christmas
    • pair Danilova/Tsiba hasn't fulfilled the national criteria to participate in the Games but their skating federation has sent a request to the national olympic committee for an exception and to include them to the TeamNL. https://www.schaatsen.nl/nieuws/knsb-dient-verzoek-in-voor-olympisch-startbewijs-danilova-tsiba/
    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final
